GV80 Bugs & Other Issues

Have had my GV80 for about 4 months now and love it. But at 3800 miles, started to get the vibration issue. The dealer has diagnosed it and is ordering a rear driveshaft. He said this is the second GV80 they've had in for the issue. I've had the same symptoms as others - after driving for 10-15 miles, vibration starts. Only noticeable in the 35-70 mph range.
Can I ask which model and trim level do you have?

Be prepared to wait. Mine has been at dealer 30 days...and they have not been able to locate a driveshaft.

I feel like they are maybe jerking you around a little or that particular dealership pissed someone off at HQ. They should have a drive shaft by now. 25 days hoping to have the vehicle back tomorrow, drive shaft was supposedly installed today.

Everyone having this issue, which factory was your GV80 manufactured at? I'll see when I pick mine up. I think Ulsan is the one a lot of the Hyundai/kia recalls and problems come out of.

Hey I don't know if the dealer pissed off HQ, but they are sure enough pissing me off. According to the handy online VIN decoder, mine is from Ul-San. If you can find out when you pick yours up, what is the defect with the driveshaft that causes the vibration? Hope your new one works better.

Mine is Ul-San too. Will let you know, the tech called today and said it was the u-joint(I mentioned that when I dropped it off 25 days ago) was more likely the culprit, they replaced the full rear drive shaft too. Along with the temperature sensor(was faulty). Picking up the vehicle tomorrow and will report back. Don't buy vehicles made on a Friday or from Ul-San apparently people.

Never buy a Monday-made vehicle. Are GV 80s made anywhere besides Ulsan? I don’t think so.

So our driveshafts must have been on the same boat, my dealer got it yesterday and installed it late that day. Service manager tells me once they removed the bad driveshaft they could see it was out of round. I wonder if these defective driveshafts put stress on the U-joint until after a few thousand miles the joint or bearings fail. That's why they have to replace both.

You are right it is the Ulsan factory, it makes sense it is their biggest factory(according to google). If you have any input to narrow down the cause PMCErnie please input. I was just trying to narrow things down, as rumours on other Hyundai forums have pointed to Ulsan made vehicles suffer higher rate of defects like the wind noise issue plauguing some vehicles.

The saying for my family has been don't buy Friday built. It's the last day of the week and everyone is slacking looking forward to the weekend. My brother had a tocoma built Friday and it was a lemon he returned for a Ford and no issues on the Ford(not built on a Friday). Voodoo magic or food for thought, think about your work end of the week vs beginning.

Happy to hear you finally got the drive shaft replaced. Does seem like they came on the same boat. They must of just started a stock pile to ship and the time you had to wait was more as it was being manufactured. Picking up today, let's report back on the issue.

So, with the nameplate on the door sill only showing the month and year of manufacture how are you able to determine the day of the week. The VIN doesn't decode to show anything time related except the last 6 digits are a sequential serial number. The first part of the VIN is manufacturer, plant, model, check digit, etc.

BTW, when my GV80 gets here in August I probably won't car what day it was made! :giggle:

Haha, you gotta ask when you buy it. They can tell you. Trust me, don't care and enjoy the car. Hopefully these issues are worked out for you.

Got the vehicle. It drives even better than when it rolled off the lot. 1000% better will see if the fix holds.

OK keeping fingers crossed. Mine is back "fixed". Taking some long trips in the coming weeks so will give it a good test. Sure is a lot nicer than the ol Santa Fe...

I have a AWD Prestige model. I am close to 7500 miles. Have driven it on road trips. Its an extremely comfortable and quiet ride(Testiment is many of my passengers have easily fallen asleep. I have not noticed any vibrations or loud fan sounds. I actually really like the tech controls, the spiny wheel and the wheels for volume, channel change work great for me. I am getting around 20MPG, I do drive lots of highway and use regular gas(It doesn't say you have to use premium, it just says if you want better performance to do so) I might try a tank of premium sometime to see if I notice any "Performance differences". I really enjoy the Highway driving feature, it works well especially on long drives, lane change works nicely too once you get the hang of getting it to do it.

So bugs or issues. Nav voice never works for me. Though I have noticed if I say go home that works, or go to something it works. But not directions too. So I have just gotten used to sending my address from the app first or using apple car play. The seat message really isn't anything special, though it is nice on the butt during a decent road trip gets the blood flowing lol. The 3D cluster if you move your eyes back and forth it does get blurry. At night I do see the two red dots from the cameras. Though honestly since the heads up display has just about everything I need I hardly look down at the speedometer. I agree glove compartment is tiny. The auto stop when someone gets in front of you can be crazy when its stops really hard.

Ok not sure if anyone else has driven in ice storms or snow, but DAMN the sensors go haywire!! This was after the storm had happened and there was a bit of ice still on the car. The vehicle slammed on the brakes thinking something was in front when there was nothing there! Almost had someone slam in the back of me to do this and it was on the highway. I added a picture of it the day the ice storm happened below. tempImageNhNbhJ.webp

I remember the days when after a snow or ice storm you only had to clear the windows, lights and maybe roof. With modern cars, you now have to learn where all the sensors are located and clear those too. Kind of annoying, but there's really no way around it I guess if you want the tech.

Just got home from testing my new driveshaft for 500 highway miles. (the wife had it up to at least 90). Ride is smooth as brand new, so far so good here. Hoping this driveshaft was made on a Wednesday???

Haha, hope so. Ya new driveshaft has been great, no issues yet, hopefully no more issues. Knock on wood.

Turbo lag. Crappy gas milage. And a really annoying, complex smart key system.

The digital key is only available for Android and last time I checked, only Samsung has the NFC functionality.
That’s ok for me, because I have an Android. But my wife has an Apple phone. So she can’t even have the digital key to use as a remote.
I just simply cannot believe that Genesis marketing didn’t know that 47% of ALL PHONES in the USA are Apple!!!
Why on earth would want to disrespect 47% of potential US customers?? Madness…..
ALL other luxury brands have smart keys that can be registered to the User.
Simple. Carry the Smart Key and the vehicle knows that its you when you get into the driver seat and everything is set up for you.
I really find it astonishing that Genesis doesn’t offer this simple, but important, functionality.

The Digital Key is ok, but many people just won’t use it because it takes an extra 4-5 seconds to make sure that your phone is on (not in the lock screen), then hold it to the handle, then put it in the charging tray. Too many actions, too much time, too much hassle.
And the alternative is to use the smart key, then press the User icon, then press Change User, then press the new User, then press OK and on and on and on and on. Too complicated. Messy, unpleasant, time-wasting experience.

This issue has really soured the whole experience for me with my new car.
It is a MASSIVE own goal by Genesis.

If you want to be considered a luxury brand, then offer the basic luxury features.
Don’t make the process of getting into the car such a complicated issue.
Somebody please tell me that this can be corrected somehow.
Can the keys be made to register to the Users???

Wow, who's forcing you to buy this car?

Lmao.

@PA2021GV80
I get great gas mileage but I have the 2.5T and cruise mostly in eco. In Canada we don't even have the smart key feature. It is also a first model year run so it may not be perfect. I already had a bit of warranty fun, but still love the car(so far... knock on wood)
