  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Pricing (USA) Revealed

They don't use Dakota in the 3 series anymore. Sensatec is standard (that would be a leatherette) and the upgrade is Vernasca.
Thanks for this. I need to go sit in Vernasca again, but I don't remember it being that great. The GV80 nappa is fantastic. And the GV80 leather (what they call 'quilted' on the Canada 3.5 Advanced....the blue GV at the Toronto Auto Show....but is not the prestige trim diamond quilted pattern) is very good.

I've driven the 2016 3 series (Dakota) which is terrible. And I've driven the new 3 series with the Sensatec - which is also terrible. The RX leatherette is very good (for fake leather), the C class MBtux is very good (for fake leather). Didn't like the Sensatec at all.

Yes, it s basically impossible to make an apples to apples build. When I tried to make a comparison build, the X5 came out to be almost $78k. To get to that though I left off the 22"inch wheels and went with 20" and also didn't choose a 3rd row but did chose a spare tire and massaging seats so it was an apples to oranges build trying to emulate what many posters on here said they would like. I did choose Merino leather, the driving assistance pro package, and the Executive package. I also chose the acoustic glass, leather dashboard and Alcantara headliner to emulate some options in the GV80.

Build Your Own Car: Luxury Car Customizer by BMW USA
This brings up another differentiator -- almost all reviews say the BMW driving assistant plus/pro has lane keep centering that doesn't work well. The Hyundai lane centering has worked very well on the Palisade/Telluride/Stingers I've driven. IMO much, much better than Honda, and still quite a bit better than v2.0 on the 2020 Lexus Rx. It's a big thing for me as I do a lot of highway driving, and a lane centering that you can be confident in you will use, one that you can't be confident it you can just say you don't even have that feature as you won't use it. And the GV80 brings 2.0 which is supposedly much better at dynamic cruise that breaks like you would normally and speeds up as you would not leaving huge gaps where people will always be cutting in.

Even at my preferred $81K configuration, I was expecting that the GV80 would come in at least $15K less. I'm not sure the $10K difference would make me give up my BMW bias. Actually, it will be my wife's car, and it is her BMW bias! She loves her current X5.
Couple of weeks ago when I mentioned the G90 almost hitting 80k and some potential buyers may shell out an additional 10% and pick a European car, some folks in this forum got upset and sounded I don't know what I am talking about.
With such pricing and how Genesis is recognized and perceived in the USA, I doubt this pricing strategy will help.

Can't speak for the 2020 RX, but the lane keep on my '16 GS is straight-up unusable outside of detecting lane lines. Not only does it like to ping-pong between lines, it also kills itself the moment it approaches any curve. I'd like to think Lexus has improved that in the past 5 years. Guess not.

It's improved. The Honda ping pongs and is unusable. The RX with 2.0 has decent Lane centering and can take a mild/medium curve. Definitely usable but also definitely need to be ready to take the wheel.

With respect to the 22” vs 20”s debate, I’d wait for test drives before complaining about ride quality. With camera activated suspension being packaged it most likely smoothes out the ride. The Genesis designers wouldn’t throw 22”s on a car that’s in the luxury segment without some way of compensating for ride comfort.

Secondly if you did get the Prestige but wanted the 20”s I have a hard time believing that any decent dealer wouldn’t accommodate that request. It’s just swapping wheels.

For now, I prefer bigger rims. Every car that has the biggest rim in its trim always looks so much better. It can drastically change the appearance, so 22" rims are essential on the GV80. As window silhouettes get smaller and vehicles become longer, wide etc. the need for larger wheels is evident. The 20" look too small in pictures and videos. Even for the G80, the 20" would be my choice. I agree that Genesis must have optimised the vehicle for the size. There was a review that said the 22" rims didn't impact the ride or sound quality. This is just my personal preference.

I think the executives at Hyundai have pipe dreams if they believe people will spend BMW money to buy a Genesis (which is still seen as a deluxe Hyundai). The Palisade Ultimate is in great demand for $48,000 and its potential market won't go $71,000 for a GV80, and people spending big bucks for a BMW X5 wouldn't even consider looking at a Genesis.

That is not the case at all. The Driving Assistance Pro is outstanding and I have never seen a review yet that says otherwise. You may be referring to the early version of the lane keeping which depending on the setting can turn the wheel fairly hard to get the car back into the lane.

Edit: Now that I think about it, not being familiar with the packages and what they include you/possibly reviewers probably are lumping the lane keeping to the DAP. The lane keeping is a standard feature which has settings of its own. The DAP package includes items such as adaptive cruise with steering control, side collisions avoidance, extended traffic jam assist (total hands are under specific circumstances), etc.

When cross shopping it is good to get information from various sources rather than just make decisions in a vacuum or with incomplete information. You should see the amount of discussion of other brands on the BMW forums. I mentioned to @Beefer the other day, we had a survey on the BMW forum where pictures of 13 different (no BMWs) luxury and high end SUV interiors where shown with brand markings masked and asked which one would the respondent consider luxury. Of course that definition varies by person but the GV80 received more votes than any other brand.

Discussions/activities like that are very helpful to many since there is a lot of old/bad information that gets passed around on forums.

I'm just poking fun at the sequence of posts above. ;)

The online Configurator now has pricing embedded.

What fvckers...every color has a $400 upcharge...except for Alta White. Wow.

Agree, this every color +$400 is very wrong and makes zero sense. Possible they remove it.
So I built top of the line and ended up with 72375. I expect the early adopters will end up paying above 80k with dealers markup, fees and tax.
I am having hard time wrapping those numbers in my head so not sure what Genesis is thinking.

I totally disagree with this. I'm currently leasing a BMW and have already built my next one for when this lease runs out. That build is currently at $86k and I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford just about any vehicle out there and I definitely was considering the GV80. Unfortunately it currently does not have some features I was looking for but that may change in the future and I will certainly be following the GV80. It has arguably the best looking exterior in the class and offers a lot for the money.

While it may take away for folks like you to realize, I guess some never will, a Genesis is not a Hyundai anymore than a Lexus is a Toyota. While they may have the same parent companies the Genesis' are built from the ground up to be a luxury vehicle and has all of the trimmings that go with that. Sure the Palisade and Telluride are very nice but they are very nice, mass-marketed vehicles and not an inexpensive luxury vehicle. The GV80 may not be for everyone but it definitely can and should make an impact on the luxury SUV market.

No way over $80k...c'mon. Sure there are a*****e dealers out there...you simply avoid them. So MSRP will be the mark.

Curious...would you consider a Q8? Or even the E-Tron? I assume the Q7 is just too big.

Trust me, Genesis will be laughed at. I am sensing unrealistic expectations by Genesis.
The cars they put are great but it must be at very good price. Other than the cars and the price, Genesis has nothing to compete with. I think they were in a hurry to jump into the European price club range.
