  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Pricing (USA) Revealed

^ why would they be laughed at. The GV80 is a brilliant ride...style, tech...and the price IS lower than the Germans. Perhaps not by much...but you are still saving.

No way over $80k...c'mon. Sure there are a*****e dealers out there...you simply avoid them. So MSRP will be the mark.
Top of the line has MSRP of 73k, day dealers mark it up by 5k, add 2k fees, add tax (9.5% at least for LA) so you have around 87k

Trust me, Genesis will be laughed at.
By who? Literally the only person calling it overpriced right now is you.

I expected these "Nobody would buy this!", "Genesis will be laughed at!", and "It's just a Hyundai!" comments belong underneath a Youtube video comments section, but not on this board.

WTF are you talking about? The car will sell at MSRP. Period. If the few dealers choose to mark up...go elsewhere. Trust me...they learned their lessons trying to mark up the G70.

Tax applies to all cars...not just the GV80. $2k fees?!?!? If that is your logic...that means that no other manufacturer has fees, markup or taxes.

Curious...would you consider a Q8? Or even the E-Tron? I assume the Q7 is just too big.

The Q8 was on my list for awhile and I even had an appointment set up for a test drive when the local dealer got one in but a few things about it, mainly the engine/transmission issues in regards to hesitation and the wife saying "what the hell is that" when showing her a picture of it". I haven't been on the Audi forum in a bit so hopefully they fixed the issue since many owners and reviewers called it dangerous.

I looked at the E-Tron and the Teslas but currently it is not practical to use an electric vehicle for cross-country trips in my opinion. I used some web sites to simulate various trips with charging stops and it added much more time to my trips than I wanted to spend. I'm still holding out hope that we will move away from BEVs and go to FCEVs so range would no longer be an issue. Maybe for my next one after my next one.

I don't like the Q7 at all, it is big, not good looking and does not have the ability for a space tire (the wife currently insists on having one even with our run-flats).

I believe you are correct and @leggy is unnecessarily inflating his prices to make his point.

This is over priced because of what? A young brand or people wanting the ultimate discount and not getting exactly that? At the $72k mark in this segment, there are not many vehicles I would consider over this.

See, I would understand the grievances with the price if it were because of actual features that the Genesis is missing compared to its rivals (to which there certainly are, especially in the higher trims). But the complaints I'm hearing sound more like badge disappointment, with people demanding the car be offered at the same bargain basement price of the Genesis sedan from a decade ago (relative to the 5-series at the time). It's laughably absurd. Do you really think this thing would be priced cheaper than a Palisade?

^ I think the 2021 refresh is pretty hot :)

We are probably clogging this thread but there is just something odd about it to my eyes. It is the back half that turns me off. It just looks like a blob to me and reminds me of an old station wagon or hearse, remember the Dodge Magnum. I think one of the reasons is because the bottom seems to run parallel to the ground rather than having the rear upward look of the GV80, X5 and others.

Then again, it is good that different brands make different designs or we would all be driving look alike. ;)

I'm not sure that it is overpriced for what it is. But I remember when I bought my 2015 Genesis. I was actively considering a 5 series as well. There was a $15-$20K difference. I smiled the entire way home from the dealership thinking that I just got the deal of the century: What I thought was as good or better of a car for almost $20K less than the other car I was considering. Later I read somewhere that the design brief for the Genesis was to build a car that was as spacious as a 7-series, with the handling of a 5-series, for the price of a 3-series. I couldn't stop smiling, and still smile every time I drive that car. I love it, and have become a big Genesis fan boy because of it. I really like the GV80 so far, and will give it a serious look. But the value proposition is a little different now. It has the size of an X5, with the handling of an X5 (we'll see!), for essentially the price of an X5. Things change, I know. Genesis cars have been getting a lot of positive press. But, value is what it is in the buyers mind.

That difference is a lot closer now than it was before. Genesis didn't become more expensive overnight. The days of the Hyundai Genesis are long over. Expecting it to be priced as when it was still Hyundai-branded is totally unrealistic.

They will because of the price. Again 10%-15% is not a big difference.
At the end you are going to drive super duper Hyundai, from Hyundai dealership, dealing with Hyundai's sales and service, possibly standing on your feet for good 15-20 minutes waiting to be called by your service advisor because no dedicated section for Genesis...etc and none of these luxury car experience and Genesis can't charge for that yet not it seems they are with their current pricing.

Any idea how many 2020 G90 sold in the US in Feb?

So it appears that the 3rd Row is min 66k, correct?

Does anyone thing the Circle A pricing will be allowed to be used?

If the Palisade and Telluride are selling thousands above MSRP what would stop the dealers to markup the GV80?
The fees I am referring to are title, registration, doc, tire and other here and there, you can also add acquisition fees to the list so there you have.

I imagine Genesis management has a long term plan. As the brand is accepted more and the quality is proven, the gap will close. May never disappear, but in 2025 it will be less than today. Just a little nudge with each new model.

I am disappointed to see they have a $400 add on for paint though. Keeps the base low but few will want the standard color white.

I am not inflating. Your are in LA. get me a dealer contact who is not marking up their 2020 G90.
I been in contact with every dealer who has 2020 G90 in SoCal and everyone is marking it up in a way or another, market adjustment or dealer installed stuff

I don't live in LA but you seem to be making generalizations based on local situation..I can go to dealers here and buy a G90 at a discounted price. Given the markups you see there, you can fly east, buy a G90, take a week or two to drive back and have a nice vacation and still come out ahead.

Same with your service experience. I just called an hour ago and talked to the Genesis service adviser. It was my choice to drive in and wait. I'll pull up, be greeted, and go to the waiting room for a coffee and snack and then wander the lot to look at cars. Excellent service and fast. Some of us are getting proper treatment.

This entire post is so full off ignorant inaccuracies it’s a joke. “A super duper Hyundai”...when they use entirely different and far more advanced drivetrains, engines, technology, chassis, build materials...right down to the aluminum used on the hoods and doors than any Hyundai car? Nothing Genesis will ever release at any price range will ever over come this type of thinking. You are absolutely over inflating the price (add some imaginary mark up) and adding costs that are constants amongst any new vehicle purchased, to form a completely disingenuous argument. I’ve said it before. Genesis has (and shouldn’t) zero interest In attracting this type of buyer.

Also the very fact that Hyundai and KIA have stepped up their game so much with the Palisade and Telluride to the point that dealers can command a mark up...a “super duper Hyundai” would be class leading luxury vehicle.

I am talking about SoCal. I have never mentioned other areas. I have to deal with the dealers where I live, not out of state.
