GV80 Reviews

It's also interesting to hear the diesel (which we don't get in the US of course).
I know Genesis is moving to EV's but it is a bit of a shame that we never got to see that inline 6 diesel get converted into a petrol version.

I'm not. We're already 30 years behind in terms of converting to renewable sources and now we're messing around with battery tech when we should be thinking hydrogen by electrolysis. I'm sick and tired of how low we set the bar on infrastructure. Every. Single. Time.

Hydrogen is a fool's errand and no infrastructure will ever be set up. Solid State batteries are the future.

That being said, the I6 is the ideal form of a 6-cylinder engine. Other companies like Mercedes and Jaguar have already moved to I6 and I suspect Genesis themselves were about to do so as well, but then axed that plan in favor of full electrification.

The I6 is ideal from a cost perspective certainly, you can simplify your engine range by adding cylinders. 1.5 litre triple, add a cylinder and you have a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder. Add 2 more cylinders and you have a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder. Bolt together two 4 cylinders on to a common crank and you have a 4.0 litre V8. As you probably know, Mercedes uses all these engine configurations, although I can't remember if the 1.5 is Renault made or in house.
Ferrari and Alfa chose V6 engines. Regrettably I haven't driven a Ferrari V6, but the Alfa is exquisite. Smooth, creamy, snarly. Looks gorgeous too, all red cam covers and chrome manifolds. Let's not forget a certain other German manufacturer who has been making flat 6 engines for over 50 years.
I could have just said "ideal" comes in lots of flavors and saved myself a whole heap of typing, couldn't I? :)

That's the thing. All automakers have pretty much stopped development of any new internal combustion engines in favor of electrics. Thus we see the end of ICE development, though not yet production. Seems a few years premature to me, but what do I know...

love love love my GV80 prestige. Ive wanted one since I saw the first review of it about 6 months ago. Ive had mine for a week now and its everything I hoped it would be. Definitely an upgrade over my previous Grand Cherokee Summit

I only have a few complaints so far which honestly do not bother me or affect how I feel about the car.

1) I wish the gas tank was bigger. I think its either 18 or 19 gallons. My previous Jeep was 23 gallons and got better mileage. On a full tank the GV80 is giving me just under 370 gallons compared to the Jeep giving me 510. Jeep was better on gas giving me roughly 21 MPG with GV80 currently at 18.9. I have a company gas card so im not concerned about gas price or MPG. I just dont like how small the tank is bc im filling up much more frequently now

2) I wish the automatic high beam lights were always engaged. I start work at 4am so im always driving in dark mornings. Again its not a deal breaker at all but I forget to turn on the auto bright lights. With my old Jeep the high beams were always activated automatically. Once I clicked them on to auto, I never had to activate them again to turn on or off compared to the GV80 having to turn them on every time the car shuts off

3) The turn signal stays on. With my old Jeep, whenever I used my turn signal it would turn off after completing the turn. (obviously would not turn off when changing lanes). With the GV80 I have to turn the signal off after making a turn. To reiterate this is NOT A BIG DEAL. Im just used to not having to turn it off after 6 years of driving the Jeep

As a whole those are 3 tiny complaints that are nit picking. My old fully loaded Jeep does not compare whatsoever to the GV80. Very very happy with my purchase. My wife has a 2020 Audi Q7 that she adores....but now asks to drive my car any chance she gets

You should not have to cancel your turn signal manually.

I'll pay close attention on the drive home today but im pretty confident I do turn it off manually

on a side note, how do you like the GV70 compared to the GV80. Performance wise I preferred the GV70 but the trunk was too small. I could not fit a set of golf clubs in there, otherwise I would have went with the 70

I tried to convince my wife to trade in her Q7 for the GV70!

I think the GV70 is gonna be a great success. I saw one on the road yesterday and its a beaut. For me, though, I think the GV80 suits me a little better - almost the same day to day performance with a bit more lux and space. However, I do think I’d prefer the GV70 if I couldn‘t get the GV80 3.5 Prestige. Not sure about the models of the GV70, but, IMO, each model of the GV80 is another step up in luxury that almost seems to be a different category of vehicle. Of course, YMMV.

There is NO way the interior on this Hyundai is better than on the X5 or GLE. Even accepting the subjectivity of reviews, the GV interior is just not up to par. And the new Sonata passenger side of the dash looks pretty close to it for way less money.
The power of marketing and pricing can work magic on gullibility though. Enjoy the Hyundai dealer service.
I planned to trade in my Eclass for the GLE 450. But then I ended up with the GV80 Prestige. Here is the price and the list of GLE options which are equivalent to the GV80 prestige package:
1. GLE 450 $62500
2. Color $720 (GV80 charges $500)
3. Wheels 21in $1000 (Note: GLE requires air suspension for 22in wheels)
4. AMG line exterior $3250 (GLE requires to upgrade the 21 wheels. Similar to GV80, it has the feature that creates engine sound in cabin)
5. Panoramic roof $1000
6. Roof spoiler $650
7. Side cladding $450
8. Black Nappa leather $2990
9. AMG line interior $400
10. Topstitched upper dash and door $350
11. Acoustic comfort pack &1100 (GV80 has similar glass and even more with RANC)
12. Premium package $1375 (GLE audio system includes 13 speakers, 590w while GV80 is 21 speakers, 1050watt)
13. Driver assistance plus $1950
14. Exterior lighting package $900 (wide low beam, high beam assist)
15. Ventilated front seats $450
16. Heated 2nd row seats $580 (GV80 has both heated and ventilated 2nd row seats)
17. Power 2nd row side sunshades $580
18. Soft close doors $550
19. Head-up display $1100
20. Destination charge $1050
Total is $83,295 (more than $10k compared to GV80 Prestige)

Note: GV80 has even some more such as: vanity mirrors, the suede headliner, electronic slip differential (only on the GLE model with AMG engine), longer warranty...
I drove test both. Regarding the ride quality, GLE is softer, floatier while GV80 is firmer, sportier (Note: GLE requires air suspension for 22in wheels). In term of noise, they are very similar at normal speed. However, GV80 seems to have lower noise in high speed.

I had fairly similar math comparing against an X5. Attached is the data.

Wow, that is awesome. I did not aim for X5 at the beginning.

Even with backing out some of the appearance options and sticking with 19" or 20" wheels (which I greatly prefer over oversized wheels and low-profile tires), the lowest you can get a mostly-comparable GLE 450 to is around $80k. And a limited-slip differential like you get with the GV80 Prestige isn't even available for the 450 -- think you have to step up to the vastly more expensive GLE 53 for that.

MT comparison against the X5.

Not surprising, glowing comments about the GV80'S interior.

Both SUVs are significantly nicer to interact with than to look at, but one interior blazes as bright as a battlefield flare: The 2021 genesis gv80's cabin presentation is sumptuous beyond any other SUV short of the big Range Rover and Bentley Bentayga; there are plenty of sharp SUV interiors in this range—X5 included—but most are dark, emotionally cold environments focused more on being cool than cushy.
.

As many of us had thought, the harsh remarks about the GV80's ride in the initial review was an anomaly...

However, the genesis gv80's unconventional design, soap-slick powertrain, silken ride, and stunning interior

Motor Trend's credibility is basically worthless at this point, to do a 180 on their opinion like that.

Nah, just not blind.
Maybe unable to tell the difference from a Genesis and a Hyundai. Let me help you out …GENESIS is a BRAND
…only since November 2015 …but you still mad … try reading with comprehension …you will be fine

I too read this the other day. And after all the comparisons in the review in the final analysis GV80 came out ahead. "This was not a test of which SUV is better to drive. This was a comparison of which SUV serves its segment best, and the GV80 emerges the winner. the genesis gv80's unconventional design, soap-slick powertrain, silken ride, and stunning interior is the cocktail to beat. And so far, no one has."

Funny they said this:

"BMW gets a few invisible bonus points for the neat animation on the digital gauge cluster, where virtual avatars of the surrounding cars scrolled by providing endless fascination."

But the GV80 has the same graphics if you have it on the correct center screen on the dash. I guess he didn't see all the dash features.

Plus better warranty with the GV80 . Traded a 15 S550 for mine in Jan very happy 10K 0 problems. Enjoy
