If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

Thanks so much. Will it unlock if you keep the key car in your pocket or does it have to be swiped? Also, no one has mentioned a kick type of feature for the tailgate to open touch free. I use my tailgate at least for times a day as I use a rollator to walk and that's where it's kept, lol.

If I get the car, I could see going Android for a new phone.

awesome. thanks so much. I'm very familiar with white space design. I fully buy into it and love it.

Hi ctsooner! I had the “genesis credit card” key with my 2015 Hyundai Genesis Ulitimate AWD. I bought the credit card key from Korea and had the dealer program it. It behaves just like the standard keyfob in that you just need to be within range of the car to unlock/lock and then when you are in the car you just hit the push button start. I never took the “credit card size key” out of my wallet. Hope that helps.

THANKS....That's awesome stuff. So glad to hear that. I won't care about the phone key then. Bummed about the lack of massage seats as that would have been a HUGE deal for getting those of us used to these things, but so many other great options.

The battery does need to be replaced more frequently with the credit card key as it’s a smaller battery. I think it was about once per year so definitely not bad at all.

They call it "Smart Power Tailgate", if you stay near the trunk for 3-4 seconds with your key, trunk will automatically open up -- only works when the vehicle is locked -- and this feature can be turned on/off. This comes standard btw.
and I see you got the answer to smart key :D

4. Will the air purification system be available in the US models?
--

4. Yes, unless the U.S. has a regulation stopping from such feature to be imported.

Is this the same feature that's on 2017 G90 and up models where the system controls the air vents and purify the air?

I didn't have the time to compare the two in detail, but from the glance, yes, it looks like they're the same one :D
I didn't find GV80's system to be any different from the earlier models.

Well, at least now we know for sure that massage seats aren't an actual feature, and that the "active motion" seat isn't a massaging one. Makes me wonder what those early English reviews mentioning massage seats were talking about.

Biermann was deeply against using air suspension for all H/K and Genesis products, I wonder what the head of Genesis interior design has against massaging seats, since they weren't offered on the G90 either. It's strange that both air suspension and massage seats were offered on the Hyundai Equus, so it's definitely not an issue of cost or engineering. It's like the idea itself is abhorred by the head staff.

I dug through an owner's manual, and nowhere does Genesis call it a massage seat.
In fact, it's not mentioned once in a 500pg long owner's manual.
Instead, it's called "Comfort Stretching" and features' description says "stretching" throughout, not once does it say massage.
So I think it's fair to say that it does deliver what it says it does -- stretch(?) your body -- not a massage.

And as for the air suspension, I found out from other Youtuber's review on the GV80's chassis + components, there is a good evidence suggesting there could be air suspension on later models, or at least they have it in mind for some other models. The rear lower arm of GV80 looks quite familiar to those German cars with air suspension. Attaching photo for your review. Again, this is only a speculation, no one knows.

Cost is always a factor but not so much on the top model. Air suspension has been problematic on other cars that I'd not want it. Maybe the seats were too?

I had three "must haves" for the GV80 in order to consider it and so far it is 0 for 2 (air suspension and massage seats) but I might as well check on the third one, does it have an option for a spare tire when it does not have a third row? Thanks for all of the info you are providing.

Genesis includes hyper-sophisticated tech features like the forward-facing camera that adjusts suspension, and the smart seat auto-adjustement based on height and weight. I don't think cost is the main factor here. It's true that air suspension isn't known for longevity, but even lower-tech competitors focused on reliability like Lexus include it. Same with massaging seats. It's a very deliberate omission by Genesis.

That's good to know. I've heard that a handful of Genesis G80s (back when it was still called the Hyundai Genesis) came with air suspension in certain parts of Europe. But that was before Biermann came along.

I've seen a fire extinguisher on the trunk, and judging from the room it provided underneath the trunk cover, I doubt there'd be a spare tire. It certainly didn't have one hanging underneath the vehicle, so I assume it is a run-flat tire? I'd certainly check on this later.

Thanks. Rather than run-flats I'm thinking they provide a repair kit with the goop and compressor since I haven't seen run-flats mentioned anywhere.

Fire extinguisher is only in S.Korea...required by law for trucks (forgot the passenger limit).

I think this is right and sure hope they are regular tires like on the G70. I had run flats on a Mercedes and they were abhorrent. Harsh ride, jarring bumps at any road surface problem, and $$$ to replace (which I had to, twice). I’d never buy a run flat car again.

That's cool. Now that you mention it, I think I saw that in a promo deal online a few weeks ago. That will work for me even better since my legs don't work well. lol.

I read that it will offer a 'spare' with non third row SUV's. That goop stuff is ridiculous if you ask me. I have gone through a lot of tired in the Northeast. It's a hard tire size to find. If you blow out the side of one on a highway on the way to NYC, you may be screwed (happened to me in wife's Q5 two months ago. It was in a bad section of the Bronx and AAA towed me to a gas station. I waited 2 hours for them to go get a tire that fit. Cost 250 for an off brand tire that wasn't even for an SUV and I had to then go get one on Tirerack and my Audi guy just put it on for free as he felt badly for me, lol.

I would forgo a third row for a spare of any type. Hmmmmm..... errrrr...

Run-flat technology has really changed and they now many provide a ride pretty similar to normal tires. I have them on mine and they are fine, granted I have air suspension, but have also driven loaner non-air X5s and 540is with them and the ride was fine.
