  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

Let’s not jump to any conclusions. We’ll know soon.

true, just waiting, lol....and I can't even buy until Sept, but I want to make sure I get the right vehicle. If I purchase I'll have to keep it for a long time. If I can get a very low lease rate, I may lease. I am concerned about the depreciation as most Genesis cars aren't as high as most of the others I've looked at so far. Again, we will see.

A couple of things I am not understanding.
if you purchase you are going to have to keep the car for a long time, so depreciation shouldn’t be a factor
if you lease and want a low rate it will mean that the residual will be high. In that case you can walk away at lease end and buy the another car like it for less. You want a high depreciation.
so why are you concerned about depreciation?

So...a few things that I just now noticed.

  1. I had no idea that there is a pass-through...or hollow space...under the center console. Makes it seem airy/roomy I suppose...what a waste of precious storage space. Stupidity IMO. UNLESS...the bottom of that pass-through is some sort of "shared" shelf between the driver/passenger that you can place objects. If that is the case...kinda cool I suppose...but tough to get to as you are probably not going to see what's under there and only be using touch to fumble around. Dunno.

Update...I just grabbed a pic and blew it up. The pass-through actually does have a shelf...and some outlet(s). Still kinda tough to get to.

  2. All the spy photos have been showing the dual exhaust tips (fake or otherwise). Yet...the car we are all seeing now with the diesel engine has none...and the physical exhaust tip(s) is hidden. So why the style difference with the diesel? And...does every single spy shot have the non-diesel engine in it?

  3. That 3rd row is a joke. I know other brands have a similar cramped space...but the GV80 is just bad. Nobody over 5'7" can sit back there for more that 15 min of driving. Total bust. I probably wouldn't even get the optional 3rd row out and save the ~$1k it will cost. Extra passengers would be more comfortable sitting on the laps of the folks in the 2nd row...LOL. Heck...even on the floor.
Plus...with the 3rd row you do not get a spare tire. Without it you do...be it big, small, etc...you still get one.

  4. I cannot believe that we still do not have any clue if this thing comes with a tow package. And if it does...how much it can handle. Bizarre.

Agree 100% with you, love the design and quite frankly the quad headlamps work. I don’t like the space under the console, find it ridiculous, all the reviews I’ve watched, you can see the seats blocking it. Also I was surprised to see how low the gv80 is, at 67.5 inch tall it is lower than the x5, gle, xc90 and ranger rover sport. It causes the 3rd row to be a total joke, no headroom back there at all

I think he was talking about wanting a higher depreciation rate. After all, he owns a Jaguar, which has some of the highest depreciation rates of any brand.

I knew the Jag was just a stop gap purchase until the better cars came out in a few years. Based on what I see arriving, I'm glad I did that. I want to make a smart choice as does everyone and I don't understand leasing vs purchasing well enough right now to make a smart choice. Once all the numbers come out as well as the discounts for coming over from a luxury car or military rebates from Hyundai etc... I'll probably ask an accounting buddy as well as you guys who seem to know more about financing than I do. Most of my friends tell me that it makes no sense to purchase a car that will have high depreciation as I'll lose a lot of money in the end. I think you lose on all cars in the end anyways, but again, with the MS, I lost a ton of cognitive and can't figure these things out on my own anymore. I don't even know if I stated my concerns properly. lol... but I love to play on forums of products or hobbies that I love, so you guys are stuck with me.

I just hope that you can all bear with me as you help me navigate things. Thanks all.

Thanks for the share. I guess he never went inside to get the HP numbers etc... lol. it's really a pretty car.

Thanks. Just watched it on my OLED 65"...The car looks even better that big, lmao...He does a nice job. Looks like no one is asking about the questions we have on the forum. Too bad.

Where are people getting the impression that the "motion seat" = "massaging"? We've known already that the motion seat is driver-only since its debut. But not a single source has said the motion seat is the same as massaging.

They said that you can select a few different types of motions for the seat. I do feel they screwed the pooch by not offering massage seats up front. That's one thing I love about the Q8 and the GLE 450. I'm spoiled as my buddy has them and I kind of want them. I'll have to see how the seat works when it comes to the dealer. With the MS, it's actually important to me. I have a feeling it will be what I need.

Correct. It’s not. It’s meant to relieve pressure points on long drives. Has nothing to do with massage...aka vibration or kneading motion.

So still waiting on confirmation of massaging seats...even though there have been many statements that the front seats have massaging.

Fingers crossed.

Yes, lot's of statements, but not one reviewer has said so. I have heard them talk about stretching etc, which is more than an articulating type of seat.

Pretty detailed overview. Interesting to see that the front suspension is double wishbone, whereas all previous Genesis sedans were multi-link. The E-LSD also sounds like a big deal; being able to send 100% of the power to the back on the AWD. Curious to see how well this handles.

Also neat to know that it has soft-close doors, which I don't think was mentioned in any other review.

Thanks for sharing my video! :D
Finally found the source where all the traffic came from, wow!
I've made another follow-up vid, finding what other media/Youtuber missed out, so check that out as well :D

cool. Welcome. Can you answer the question about does it have a true massage seat and if so, does the passenger one too? thanks for the vid.

I've covered this in my latest video, and simply answering, No to all.
It's only offered in a driver's seat, and it's not a "true massage seat".
My comparison here would be the seat of a Mercedes -- nothing close to what Mercedes offers.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a massage seat, but rather a seat quipped with massage type alert?

Unfortunately, no trim offers this in a passenger seat.

Hope leaving my own link is not against the forum's rules.
LMK, getting used to the forum here :D

I noticed you asking him about the seats. Thanks for clearing that up. I love the GLEs seats and was hoping for similar. Oh well. How did the interior feel compared to the Mercedes?

These were some questions from viewers that I've found out answers to.
Hope this'd clear up some questions for you too :D

CarSceneKorea Thanks Buddy! Yeah there are.....
1. Can you unlock the GV80 from just grabbing the front door handles or do you have to push the indentation on the door handles?
2. Does the drivers seat have a massage?
3. If Digital Key is available, is it for Android phones only.. if so, will there be a key card for Apple users?
4. Will the air purification system be available in the US models?
--
1. So both are correct. However, if you are expecting Mercedes-like responsiveness, GV80 isn't quite there yet. You'd have to place your hand clearly through the door handle, until it recognizes your hand there. It will then unlock. Also, pushing(touching) the indentation(sensor) works as well -- this seem to work a bit smoother and faster than the previous one.
2. Yes, but not a "full massage" we'd expect from German cars.
3. Android only, since they're the only ones offering NFC's. But all GV80 owners are given credit-card-sized card, which can be used as a "smart key".
4. Yes, unless the U.S. has a regulation stopping from such feature to be imported.

Latest Mercedes I drove and got a massage seat was 2018 E63 AMG.
On a scale of 10, and Mercedes' massage seat being 10,
I'd give GV80 4 or 5.
Merc's massage was actually a massage. It really relaxed my back, and took away some sore pain from driving for hours.

However, UI on GV80 was muchhhhhhhhhhhh better.
Benz takes steps to get into the massage control, (had to press OK button at least 4 times just to start a massage)
whereas GV80 has a physical button right above seat position control button,
making the function accessible with a button, literally.

As for the interior, I really liked it. Guru(Genesis representative) told me of the design concept of the interior, “the Beauty of White Space”
and I actually found an article about it :D
