  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

Totally sucks as so many of us want to at least know the specs, ie 0-60 and back to 0, etc... I thought I heard they were tightening up the suspension for the NA markets. It will be interesting to see how long it will take to get to the US/Canada markets.

I don't know if you have seen it but there is a review out of the 3.5tt. Unfortunately 0-60 is slower than most folks have been hoping for. Here is the thread:

Thanks Turtle. I'll go check it out. I'll hold off on getting bummed by a slower 0-60 than I was hoping for. I didn't get to watch it yet, but Slack says that Charlie isn't adept at driving the 0-60 test. Says he has a slow launch. Not sure how he's so bad that it's a full second off. Carscoop claims a 5.7 sec and the smaller engine is 6.9. That makes more sense. if it's that slow, then they will not get as many European buyers like me.

Ed, I may be wrong, but most folks I know, women included, do want cars/SUV's that are under 6 sec 60's and also strong breaks. These are folks who drive premium cars. It's a huge reason we have never looked at Acura or Lexus etc...

I'll need to drive to see which SUV's are the most comfortable and also fun to drive.

I guess we hang with different crowds. Are they using that performance or just the bragging rights? I don't know anyone that would reject a car that did 6.2 over one that does 5.8. There is much more to the driving experience and to life itself. Comfort and overall driving with things like comfort, visibility, ease of controls matter. Sure, you want good performance but .4 seconds is not life changing for me.

Your money, your choice.

Oh, a guy I've know for 40 years. Had a 240Z, 300Z Porsche, 'Audi A7, BMW. Has never driven over 80 mph. Even showing off his cars never pushed to the floor. But he will tell you how fast they are so I guess it can be important.

I'm sure some people here do push it and frequently but the SUV is still priced to appeal to a large segment of buyers so compromises are made.

Of course only you know what folks you know want but I would say most folks anywhere who drive premium cars have no clue what their 0-60 time is if you asked them and wouldn’t care or even realize if it was a little over or a little under 6 sec.
I think the folks you know are the exception and not the rule.

This is so extremely correct. Out of everyone I know...only myself and one other buddy know acceleration stats.

In my opinion the 0 to 60 speed means very little in everyday driving (given decent times between 5 and 7 seconds), what matters more is the acceleration rate at passing speeds. When you step on it to pass a vehicle on a two lane road you need it to respond. Short of having some type of transmission or turbo issues which no one has reported, the GV80 should do very well when called upon to pass.

And you are one of the few that use it often. Sure, its fun, enjoy it. But reality is, you are a minority as are many of us here. That is also why you bought a G70 and not an old 18 second Hummer.

Absolutely agree...and from the latest video review...it does EXACTLY that with a ton of thrill.

Want a fast ride...get the G70 🤪

Guys, I never said most or all or anything like that. I just referenced the crowds I hang out with. Most of the guys I hang with talk cars a lot. We all drive premium cars and know more about the cars than most sales people will ever know (I tend to not deal with salespeople who don't take the time to learn about their cars).

I have never even said I won't be getting a Genesis. I am saying that if this SUV doesn't feel fast or isn't fun to handle, I won't get it no matter how nice it looks. I'm making a broad based assumption that it will handle well and accelerate well. Deep down I was hoping the 2.5 would accelerate similar to my wife's Q5 Audi which is ok (5.9 area).

Again, we are all speculating based on published reports and reviewers driving adn sharing. We all are touched by different things when purchasing anything. It's all good.

WTF?!? Um...yeah...you most certainly did say exactly that. You just directly quoted yourself. LOL

Thanks for the WTF Beefer. That's just rude isn't it? Please show me where I said MOST OR EVERYONE in the market. This is what I posted

"but most folks I know, women included,"

Yes...it has front/back cameras that record. It is on the GV80 website.
Don't know about this. It has a dash cam option also, although it specs include recording after the engine is off. I'm not sure the recording is for the front facing camera or for this optional dash cam.

Looked at the catalog and still could not filled out whether it is all time AWD or on demand. The gas mileage is a pity, only about 20 mpg combined.

What do you mean "on demand"? It's a RWD bias AWD system, not a cheap FWD one with a Haldex. The torque split varies depending on the road conditions but is usually 30:70 front:back.

Some AWD systems have the power go to four wheels all the time, like Subaru or old Audi. I wonder whether the GV80 is like this.

Subaru and Audi AWD are FWD-biased systems with the engine mounted in front of the front axle. The one in Genesis is very similar to BMW's xDrive or Mercedes' 4Matic, which are RWD-based. Regardless, all of them shift torque to wheels depending on road conditions and none are ever truly locked differentials like a 4WD offroader. On straight highways torque gets shifted 100% to the front wheels on the Audi/Subaru while it's sent to the rear wheels on the Genesis/BMW/Merc. The only "on demand" AWD you're thinking of is Haldex which is not designed for RWD-based vehicles.

Thanks for the explanation.

The Genesis AWD system is very similar to BMW's - both auto-makers developed their respective systems w/ Magna Int'l.

Benz's 4Matic was developed in conjunction w/ Steyr-Daimler-Puch, which was acquired by Magna (and now known as Magna Steyr).

Audi's latest Ultra AWD system is also manufactured by Magna Int'l and is actually a step back in that it defaults to a FWD set-up (not sure, if only the lower end Audis like the A4 use this).

This is the oddest review I have ever seen.

It is just a Way, pun intended, for her to get views. As the video says, it is entertainment and as many people are probably viewing it to see her legs as they are to see the GV80. ;)
