  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

This guy is a tool. Claims he has the highest trim...and states it is missing a lot of items other cars have. Um...the Prestige is the highest and has everything he says is missing. Folks like this drive me bonkers.
I noticed that too, he thinks he has the best package and he doesn't. Somebody needs to tell him.

We need to know exactly what features are in the US specs and what are not.
Just a couple of options that come to mind and probably by far not the entire list: The "Terrain" mode is available in Canada and Korea but not in the U.S. Matte paint is not available in the U.S. either. Part of the confusion seems to be that many of the YouTube GV80 review videos we watch are made using the Korean and/or Canadian versions and the U.S. doesn't get some of those options even with the Prestige package.

I'm not even getting into the amber blinker lights debate. LOL

Perhaps I missed it since I'm not following as closely as you guy but what has changed feature-wise since the the press release with the various packages and options?

No need; he already acknowledged it in the comments section and pinned it.

If you want to see a really crappy, misleading review, this takes the cake:

Dude is comparing a base GV80 2.5T to a fully loaded Audi Q7 with the V6 and basically taking a piss all over it.

What debate is going on over the amber blinking lights?

Apparently, some potential buyers are put off by the red turn signals. They believe that a car in this price range should have amber, or that any car should have amber because it is safer or cooler.

I did a little research since the topic came up and there is no doubt that amber turn signals are safer, quite a few studies have shown that. The NHTSA has been considering mandating amber turn signals on new vehicles for a number of years. It seems they have always gotten pushback from US manufactures due to cost but perhaps with LED lighting that reason will go away.

Here is an NHTSA study on the subject from about 10 years ago.

Wow, I had no idea about the turn signal color issue, thanks.

I walked through my grocery parking area this afternoon and of the cars I saw the hindquarters of there was one with amber lenses, a forgettable Nissan something sedan, from maybe 5-10 years ago. Plus my NB Miata.

I hope that check Motor Trend got from Mercedes was worth it, because they sure look sheepish now after literally every single online reviewer has contradicted them on the ride quality of the GV80 and G80.

With the LED lighting the color of the lens doesn't determine the color of the blinker since the amber can show through white. For example, on the X5 (turns out I have red rear turn signals and never realized it) the turn signal shows red through the white lens that is also used for reverse.

That is scary. What factors drove last place?

Unless Genesis can get the dealers to get their act together I would think that they will have last place locked up for the foreseeable future. Hopefully with the likely success of the SUVs it will give Genesis the capital and impetus to make some drastic moves with dealerships.

^ fully loaded vs fully loaded...the X5 will be $20k+ more expensive.
This is not accurate. First admittedly it’s impossible to compare apples to apples, with different packages and trim levels it’s more like comparing fruit baskets. Basket A has raisins basket B has crasions A has 3 apples and 2 grapefruit basket B ........ you know what I mean.

I placed a deposit on GV80 Prestige. This trim level gave me the features I wanted, along with a few I didn’t need. BMW offers custom builds allowing you order what you want and skip what you don’t. So my comparably equipped BMW X5 45e has all the goodies including premium leather, upgraded stereo, HUD, air suspension, ambient lighting, 4 zone heating etc. The only thing I gave up was heated rear seats, saving a few hundred dollars.

MSRP GV80 Prestige $73995. MSRP BMW X5 45e $79145.
A long way from a $20k difference.

Plus with incentives and rebates the price comes down to $70,397. Because it’s a PHEV I’ll get another $7500 tax credit. Real pricing in the real world. In the end I chose a car in hand over a place in line and saved money to boot.
