Hankook tire recall

I would highly suggest anyone in for routine service make sure to note boldly on the paperwork NOT to do the tire swap. I would make sure the SA knows it and go as far as to watch him write it on the ticket. The Service Department is reimbursed for this labor and will want to do the work, so I would pull out all stops to make sure they are not to do the optional tire swap. If there were tire wheel locks, I would take the key.

Even though I'm leasing my 3.8, Im happy with the Hankooks after 12k.....no hurry to change. Florida temps don't promote any flat spotting.....I do, however, don't feel they perform well in heavy rain....just need to dial it back in the rain....

My car goes in for its 1st service on Friday. The dealer has called twice about the tire swap already. I think I will hang around while they perform the service to ensure they do not swap my tires. I will have the SA put it in writing as well.

When I went in for my taillight leak recall, I casually told my service advisor "no tires", and he said "no tires, got it".

I don't think they would have changed them if I had said nothing, but absolutely no push to change them.

After setting up my appointment fit "Auto Butler" and to have my headlights aimed higher, the confirming email I received also had the tire change noted......I called to have the tire change deleted...no problem...and no pressure to do it.....Damn, the auto butler made the black paint look better than new! Happy motoring, all.

As I understand it, 2018......or 3 years ?...but my letter from Hyundai never specified a time period.....I'm sure this blog will keep us posted to what's happening out there......meanwhile I'll wait til I need tires.....a particular set of Michelins are specified for the 3.8 but that could change in 3 years....

Mine are giving me intermittent vibrations during driving and braking. I don't know what the dealer will replace them with.

I think dealers are treating the tire swap as a recall regardless of what you really call it. I certainly wasn't given any choice and only afterwards discovered that it was voluntary and at my convenience. If I had known, I would definitely have kept the Hankooks. I think the noise level is higher with the Michelins, but the ride is about the same, maybe a little better. The Flatspotting on my car is definitely much worse with the Michelins - far worse than the Hankooks.

Couldn't agree more. My otherwise wonderful AWD Ultimate is leased so I won't be going tire shopping for this car to get rid of the new 'lumpy' Michelin's. These Michelin's seem to flat spot just by looking at them . I've had many cars with Michelin tires and have never experienced (except when the temp falls into single digits) such flat spotting after the car has sat dormant for as little as 30 minutes. The flat spotting does go away after about ten minutes of 60-70 mph highway driving. Surprisingly the outside temperature doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference in the time the tires take to 'round out'. Until they do [my] car feels like it's being driven on a very old cobblestone European city street. Not the best way to impress someone that hasn't had the pleasure of riding in a new Genesis AWD.

I elected to go Conti DWS on my Mercedes several years back. One of the best tires I have ever used on a car. Love them and highly recommend.

I doubt it. The tire replacement is part of a Hyundai campaign which is for a specific tire that Hyundai obviously negotiated to get. The dealer is compensated for the time to remove, install and balance the new tires as part of the campaign, for which they have no influence or stake in.

Keep complaining to your dealer about the vibration and make certain they are adding your comments to your vehicle service file. Contact Hyundai Canada and complain to them also. While your dealer has little or no influence on changing the Michelins for another make/type, Hyundai Canada does.

I thought I was the only one experiencing this problem. The only time I had flat-spotting with the OEM Hankooks was after the car sat overnight (or longer), but these Michelins flat-spot after each and every stop of 20 minutes or more. And like you, the vibration is much worse than I ever had with the Hankooks. While I now have my Winter tires & rims installed, (virtually no flat-spotting), I am continuing my discussions with Hyundai Canada to try and get these Michelins changed.

I have a 2G 5.0 and did the recall here in Florida and got the Continental PROCONTACT TX. They are fantastic looking and drive better than the Hankooks did in my opinion. I'm aware that the Michelins are more aggressive and the Conti's are a grand touring tire for comfort.

What kind of life will you get from the Michelin or Continentals?

So here's my issue. The dealership went ahead and ordered the replacement Michelins despite the fact that I made it clear I was going to wait the 24 months to have them changed.

I got a call recently, telling me that either I change them or they cancel the order and it cannot be reinitialized. I am then, "out of luck".

I don't entirely believe the dealership but at the same time I'm not unhappy with the Hankooks. I'll make a stink, but barring that I'm considering keeping the Hankooks over the Michelins given the opinions expressed here re: road noise.

Any opinions svp?

I run my tire pressure 1-2 pounds above the factory recommended amount. This may reduce flat spotting.
