  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hard to Choose - Genesis please help!

The Platinum Extended Warranty can be purchased from any Hyundai dealer. Don't pay more than $1400 for it (assuming the used car you are looking at still qualifies for it). Try calling Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta for a quote. If you get that warranty then you don't need a CPO status on your car, since you would be paying for redundant warranty coverage (CPO extends 10 year - 100K mile drivetrain warranty to used cars that is normally only available to original owners). The Platinum Extended Warranty would also cover the drivetrain and other components up to 10 years or 100K miles (if you get the right warranty).

A dealer is going to want at least $1000 more for a CPO car than a non-CPO car, all other things equal, since they have to pay HMA for the extra warranty coverage that comes with a CPO.

If you have any other questions, I would recommend to search this forum.

Thank you so much...sorry for the late reply.
Just to clarify what you said:
i could potentially find a Genesis that is NOT a CPO and prob not at Hyundai Dealer but it could qualify for a Platinum Warranty?

If that is what you meant, then my options have expanded!!

Thank you so much

Some dealers sell non-CPO Genesis sedans also. You might even try and get them to remove the CPO designation and lower the price, which you could use to purchase the extended warranty. But you need to check with a dealer (any dealer) selling the warranty to be sure a particular car is eligible.

Have you test driven a 3.8 vs a 4.6? I decided to buy a 2012 4.6 because it comes fully loaded & has more power than a 3.8. You have to get the premium/tech package in the 3.8 to match the features you get in a 4.6. Although the stat sheet shows the power is pretty close, it actually isn't. The torque curve on the 4.6 is lower, meaning the 4.6 is more responsive & has more "grunt" down low! I too was looking for a white 4.6, but found a gold one that was non CPO, low mileage, & in great condition! I had it tinted & although I still like white, the gold is growing on me. As an extra bonus, the car gets over 30 mpg on the highway which was a very pleasant surprise for me. At any rate, drive both of them & choose which one you want to target & be patient! I have no complaints with mine & drive it like I stole it each time I get into it! (Gotta love Valentine One radar detectors!)

Mission complete guys with a MAJOR speed bump:

9/5/2014: Went to Augusta to Taylor Hyundai to look at a silver 2012 Genesis 4.6. When I got there I was only looking but they had 2 CPO Satin-White/saddle 2012s V6 parked next to each other (the color that I wanted but not the engine). So I talked to the salesman we chitchatted. I told him they look great but i bet they had no navi. Well was I wrong. They both had tech package/navi. The only thing was missing was lane departure and brake hold like on the 4.6/5.0 (Even had wing emblems!!)

Test drove one had 26k miles. Perfect. We talked numbers. PERFECT. $23k + my trade in no money down. Got the Platinum Warranty too BAM! Im happy. Ok. Good right? It gets better.

Salesman comes back and says, let me give you the one with less miles. They are the same car. Cool, 23k miles that is perfect. I opened the door looked inside and boom it looks good. Time to go.
Get in the car and noticed that it was not vacuumed out or detailed. Oh well not a bad thing because I like to do it myself. I got 3 miles down the road and the navigation screen just goes NUTS! Take it back and they take it to the back. Go back up the road the screen is selecting whatever it wants (XM to CD to Navi). Took it back. Salesman says "I will order you a new whole unit and we will give you a loaner" Ok fine. I live 1hr or so away not an issue.

Get home and show my parents (it is evening time at this point) and immediate my mom sits in the back seat barefooted and screams.
The entire backseat (floor) had about 2 inches or more of water floating under the mats!!!!! My dad opened the front passenger, same thing!!! Man I was pissed. He saw a chip missing on the side where the seatbelt was, faded leather, and other blems. I immediately call my salesman. He said he would call the district manager and we would swap out to the slightly higher mileage Genesis. Man I was so mad at myself because I should have deeply checked this one as I did the other one I test drove. I was thinking of a billion things to say at this point to say to the manager when I got there.

9/6/2014 - I got there first thing and the manager greeted me. I told him what I saw and he was furious but mostly embarrassed. His team in the back failed to complete the CPO. My question was how in the world was it on the LOT for sale if it was not complete??
My demands were simple (after I inspected the hell out of it)
1. Clean and detail
2. NEW wings everywhere
3. Warranty start over
4. Genesis Mat in the trunk

Well not only did i get my White SATIN-Pearl V6 Genny with wings everywhere, window tinted, 18" wheels, factory HID (the other 2012 had HALOGEN lights), Lexicon Audio/Navigation, 5 free oil changes and a full tank of gas!!!

WHEW!

Thank you guys for your assistance!!!!

Do you have a DIS controller (round knob) behind the gear shifter? At some point, Tech Package features became standard on all V8's, but don't recall when.

Do no BMW multimedia knob so no tech pack. I was under the impression by the salesman that is what it was. The LCD is all touch screen for Navi/XM + i have the LEXICON system still and full factor HID headlights that is so amazing. Kinda wish there was Backup and lane sensors. I drive 500 miles a week. Oh well..... :(

Kinda CONFUSED!

You say your car is a 2012 Genesis 4.6? In 2012 they sold a 4.6, 5.0, and a R-Spec 5.0 (all V8 models).

The Premium Package includes touch screen Nav, but at some point the Tech Package features (including DIS controlled Nav) became standard on all V8's, but not sure when. Maybe you should make sure you have a 2012, and that it has a V8 (4.6 or 5.0).

No Sir. I have a 2012 3.8 V6 Premium. I have the following:

1. Navigation/touchscreen/XM/Rear Camera
2. Rear electronic shade
3. Lexicon Audio (NO-DVD just mp3/cd)
4. XENON/HID headlights
5. Prem. leather everywhere
6. Folding Mirrors with turn signals
7. 18" wheels and tires
8. Wing badges everywhere including steering wheel
9. NO DIS
10. NO Lane departure
11. NO Adaptive cruise Control
12. NO ECO-light while driving
13. NO Cooled driver/Rear seats

No Sir. I have a 2012 3.8 V6 Premium.
OK, that explains it. I missed that when you originally mentioned it.

With the Premium Package, you have the 14-speaker Lexicon system which synthesizes surround sound out of stereo sources, but (unlike the 17 speaker Lexicon) does not play Discrete 5.1/7.1 surround sound that is on a DVD-A, and also does not play DVD Video. There is not much music recorded in discreet surround sound on DVD-A, so not a big deal.

I think you will like the 3.8 V6. It has plenty of power for most people, and car is 200 lbs lighter than the V8.

Yes sir, it is plenty powerful!!! Very surprised how smooth the 8spd transmission is too...

Last question for you or for anyone, the manual has the ECO light/button. Mine does not and I did not not notice it while i was driving. How do you activate it? My wife's 2008 Accord v6 comes on when you are driving moderately. I would like to know because I drive about 500 miles a week for work. Also at fill up the gauge says 351 miles until empty. is that correct?

2012 Satin White Pearl/Saddle: Prem + some tech package
I just noticed in your signature that you have "+ some tech package." What is meant by that? Just curious.

The V6 has plenty of power. The transmission is wonderful and the fuel mileage of the V6 will bring smiles to your face. I'm getting nearly 26 mpg and I keep very good records.

Sounds like you did just fine. That other one sounds like a flood damaged car if I read what you posted correct. You NEVER EVER want a flood damaged car. They should always be junked; no exceptions.

You did fine. I don't see the tech package as that big a deal. Just be thankful you didn't get that other one. The dealer evidently didn't bother to check it was a flood car (how else does 2 inches of water get in the back floorboards?)

Enjoy!

The ECO light is activated through the dash menu (I have a Tech but should be the same for Premium). Using the steering wheel controls, keep pressing DISP until the ECO "leaf" shows up. It will show "off". Then hold the DISP button until it shows "on".

I just put that because i thought the XENON was only available in tech package.

So thankful that there was this one that was exactly like it.
Both cars came from Florida but my thing was how were they able to Certify it?? The Nav started acting up and all they said was we will order and replace it with another. Then I get home to find water and later mildew smell? I asked the General Manager if this was involved with flood (of course the Carfax showed NO) he assured me none of his cars were involved in anything like that. Hmmmm......Both cars from Florida. Both have less than 30k miles. Both only had 1 owner? My dad thinks dealers can make up or clean up car faxes. Not sure how true that is. I know one thing, they dont want to see me at that dealership again. LOL!!!!

Nope. Pressing display button on wheel does nothing. :(
