If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone

Newbie here and a happy owner of a 2014 Genesis Sedan 3.8. We love the car and haven't had really any problems to speak of.

The one thing that is a problem is the front grill chrome is starting to peel. Has anyone else had a problem with this ?

I have a 2012 and haven't experienced this. You could check online how much to replace it would, couldn't imagine it being too much.

NEVER turn your volume up 100%. That is a sure way to destroy your amplifier and/or speakers (not to mention damage to your ears).

Not true at all. Power doesn't blow speakers, distortion does. I can crank my volume all the way and no distortion and no blown speakers.....

Now, that "damage to your ears" part........ LOL:welcome:

Hello,

I went to pick up my 2012 Genesis today that I bought a few days ago. The salesman ran it over to fill up the tank and noticed the sunroof wasn't all the way down (it had started to rain). Apparently, the track was broken and needs to be replaced. The part is on back order (a familiar refrain in this forum) and now I won't have the car for another week. Are issues with the sunroof common?

This has probably pushed me to pick up the HPP for the extra 2 years...

YES..
  1. brake issue ..replaced hydraulic module
  2. paint fading from door handles and side mirror and trunk lid
  3. licensense plate light housing keeps melting
  4. rear ac vent had to be replaced
  5. brakes makes weird sound dirung the cold morning at the begining
    [/REPLACED LEFT SIDE HORN ]
AC is not cold now...hope its just low refrigerant

Main Problems with my 2009 Genesis
1. RT Headlight socket burns out. On second socket after having it re-wired! Huge problem as I can't keep a bulb lit so constantly having to drive with one headlight!!!
2.Stereo over heats and shuts off

I am the original owner and these two problems have plagued the car since owning it.

  1. Some of the same issues...
Paint on door handles (had one replaced under warranty) on shark fin antenna, outside mirrors and trunk handle area fading and chipping.
Tire rims were chrome they are now black and chrome (getting more black each day)
My license plate light housing has melting scars.
Replaced brake rotors long ago to combat the morning gronk sound.
Cabin lighting never worked correctly, but of course it did when I took it in for service. Now it flickers on and off. more off than on these days.

Check the battery connection in the trunk. Mine used to flicker all the time from beginning. They didnt tighten the bolt enough. Just in case double check.

Old thread, but I just bought a 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate, and I've had a few problems I've been wanting to catalog anyway. :-)

1. It pulls to the right. This may be under-pressure in the right front tire; it usually matches the front left, but sometimes reads 1psi lower. This gets tiring on a long drive (I commute 2 hours each way a couple days a week).
2. Lane Keep Assist seems to be miscalibrated. It *could* have something to do with the above (pulling to the right), but it only seems to care that I'm nearing the lane marker about half the time (when it's locked onto the lane markers). It'll give me a lane departure warning, but will only attempt to correct about half the time.
2a. And every once in a while in a right turn, I'll drift too close to the outside line and it'll pull hard back into the curve (to the left). When the curve is finished, it continues pulling to the left until I exit the lane (unless I correct it myself).
3. My sunroof visor (the 6" piece of glass between the windshield and sunroof) shattered and the seal around the edge started coming off. I noticed it shattered when I heard glass bits tumbling across my roof and heard the seal thumping against the sunroof. (Other models have had recalls for this issue, citing a road hazard if the seal comes all the way off. I'm not sure why the Genesis hasn't.)
4. The A/C doesn't seem to regulate properly. I find it continually blowing cold air at me as I inch the temperature up (a degree or two at a time) to 80 or so. And sometimes it continues blowing warm air at me until I inch it down to 68 or so. I used to have a car I could set to 74 and leave it like that forever. In this car I'm constantly fiddling and it's never right.
5. There's a rubber gasket between the high center brake light and the back window. It dried up and cracked (due to sun exposure, I assume) and is now sort of dangling. I'm going to tack it up with some rubber cement, but that's sort of hoopty.
6. Twice while driving in the rain, my Blind Spot Detection on the driver side has lit up when there was clearly nobody in the lane next to me.
7. The gas fill-up door is absolutely chintzy. It's light plastic and not rigid enough that the latch lines up when you shut it, and I find myself fidgeting (carefully) to get it to shut correctly. My 2006 Sonata gas door was more solid than this one, and this is a "luxury car". :-\
8. I haven't verified this yet, but my wife says the passenger seat heats her back but not her <ahem> seat.

Not strictly car issues, but tangential gripes:
9. I thought this was a much worse problem until I figured it out. I thought the Heads-Up Display was spontaneously shutting off mid-drive. Turns out it just wasn't visible when I put on my polarized sunglasses. :-)
10. The mobile app is about the crappiest mobile app I've ever used. (Nothing about it strikes me as intuitive.) Half the time it times out while trying to get an update, and one time it insisted my car, which I was staring at, was about 25 miles away, even after a "successful" location update.
11. The obvious omission of Android Play with the 9.2" DIS, and the ... meh ... navigation software built into the unit. I find myself mounting my phone right next to that big 'ol display and using Waze instead. It's almost like putting the new smaller TV on top of the older cabinet TV. (Rednecks will get this.)

These are all relatively minor gripes. I'd like to get the first few addressed, but they're probably calibration issues of some sort.

'13 r-spec owner.
Zero issue.
Over 3 years and 4 months of ownership.
By far the best sedan I've ever owned. (I owned two Lexus vehicles before)

Well we traded up to a loaded 2014..we love it but I noticed something my other 2014 didn't have. Does anyone else have these black lens on the lower front between the grill ?....Was that something added after ?.....Thanks

Those black panels cover up the sensors for the smart cruise control.

Both amber driving lights burned out in less than 2 years

I've had the same problem with my 2017 Genesis G80 5.0. They say my software is up to date and they don't see a problem. Maybe if they keep ignoring the complaints, they'll go away?

2012 5.0 brake failure mis diagnosed power booster then ABS controller in dealer 2 months brakes not a good as they were before

Zero defects after 2 yrs. and 2 weeks

For the number 2. Stereo overheating. might want to locate the amp and see if it is dirty with dust etc. might want to wipe it down.

Several in the two years I have owned the car: Transmission replaced at 55k miles (from what I've read it's a result of faulty design), replaced motor that powers the driver's seat, idler pulley replaced due to incessant whining, trunk latch and switch replaced because trunk wouldn't stay closed. Not enough to deter me from buying another. I do plan however to look at an Infinity Q50 or Q70 the next time around though but will probably buy an new Genny. My local Hyundai dealership is fantastic and so convenient. Have given me a loaner every time I've had to leave her overnight.

I have a problem with the back up camera it won't display the image only the grid lines. please help. it is the camera or the head unit as the head unit was replaced two months ago.

I've had the same thing twice. I had the head unit replaced, the wiring from the camera to the head unit and the camera itself. The last time it happened, I unplugged the camera, cleaned the contacts, put some dielectric grease on them and put it back together. Haven't had a problem since.

Doesn't really cost anything to try it and hopefully it'll help. The connections are in the trunk under the liner. It's easy to get out and a quick fix.
