my new 2012 genesis showed a "check engine light." dealer diagnosed the problem as a bad fuel filter. It took a week for the part to arrive, necessitating two trips to the dealer and two days loss of use each time.

The problem reoccurred, and this time a bad "fuel canister" was at fault. It took two days to diagnose this problem and the car was out of service for over two weeks waiting for the part to arrive.

Dealer did give me a loaner but was never able to get information about the part availability or delivery.

It is frustrating that hyundai markets a luxury vehicle but doesn't allow dealers to keep parts in stock. Their supply system is either poorly managed or non-existent.

This situation would make me think twice about getting a new genesis in the future.

i agree!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2009, 4.6L sedan and this month of March 2012 marks its 2nd anniversary. In the past year I have been at my dealer 13 times (for items other then standard oil changes), I know everyone by name at my dealer as well they have come to know me also!
First off this car handles and perform as well as some other Eurpoean vehicules that I have had in the past. Here is a list of issues that I have had...
- Driver's side mirror gasket coming off (This gasket is located between the mirror housing and the door panel. Dealer changed the entire mirror, new mirror at a deformed lens that deforms object when viewing it, since then I had it replaced 2 others times and still the same problem, so I have given up on it, I shut my right eye when looking at the mirror for extended periods!
- Fog lights keep burning out, never in stock at my dealer, always have to come back weeks later to replace
- Front proximity sensor 1st level audio alert does not work anymore only the indicator light, was advised by dealer that this feature is no longer in effect once the unit has been re-programmed.
- Leather seat cover driver's side was deteriorating, dealer changed cover but damaged the seat's back solid vinyl cover and did not advise me of such until I found out for myself had to go back to get it replaced...
- Mag wheels surface finish peeled off and portions that had peeled off turned to black spots, manufacturer refused to replace Mags but had the dealer re-coat them, now surface finish is not what it was originally from the factory
- Changed the rear driver passenger side exterior handle twice, could not access the vehicule from the outside, we were forced to use the right rear side door & have passenger slide down the seat.
- Front driver's side automobile access button stopped working in December 2011, the handle has been on order since the 3rd week of December, I was advised on the 29th of February 2012 that the replacement handle has now arrived at the dealer, going in next Monday to replace!
- Car key is not always recognized by the vehicule, got locked out of it on several occasions, so now I always keep both keys on me in case one of them does not get recognized!
- Car Main computer screen freezes now and then preventing me to access audio and other features available. Computer/video screen has been changed but the problem is reoccuring, dealer / manufacturer cannot find the problem...

I might have forgotten some items along the way but I think I've identified the ones that are a real pain! throughout all of this, I have been delt with courtesy and politeness by my dealer, I cannot complain about the service they have offered me. The only thing I could say about my dealer is that they seldom have a courtesy car available for me when I have had to bring my Genesis in for warranty repairs.

The pros about this car are the handling, performance, quietness of the interior.

The cons for me have been its reliability, I just cannot afford going to the dealer anymore, it is just too much time consuming. As well, the biggest negative I have to say is living in Canada and driving this car in the winter is a challenge, it has decent power and it is great that it is a real wheel propelled vehicule, but for our climate it should be made available in all wheel drive.

My plan after 2 years was to give it to my wife and replace her Volvo S60T5, but it is just to difficult to handle in the winter and I do not want to risk it.

I cannot recommend this vehicle to anyone as per all of the issues that I have had, I will most certainly not purchase another one and I am not looking forward to the warranty period ending on this car.

Sorry to have been long winded, came across this site just this morning when looking at replacing my wipers and I have to say it felt pretty good to write up the above !:)

Have you looked into the Lemon Law, or does this not apply in Canada? This list is crazy, and I've never seen so many problems with ANY car, let along a Genesis.

I had that many problems with my last car (VW Passat). But mine was outside the warranty period! And I agree... you seem to be having some serious electrical system issues (among others).

First-model year cars... are a beach.

All electrical sounds like bad connections maybe due to corrosion. The seat may have had strong chemicals put on it by a car wash, which may be what happend to the wheels. Do not use anything on the wheels except mild car wash soap and water. Also the chemicals put on highways for melting snow can damage wheel finishes and underside of cars. As for the leather seats only use good quality leather cleaner and coat the clean seat with lexol. Fine leather has to be maintained regularly, it is not tuff leather like what is in many pickup trucks.

Own a 2012 Rspec sedan with about 1200 mi. I needed to have all 4 wheels balanced and ran fine afterwards. Only one issue, I accidently shut off the engine with the shifter in D. I could not move the lever to restart the car. Inserted key fob into the receiver below the CD player and the system returned to normal. Has not happened again.

I one complaint is the lack of paint uniformity/quality. The overall body (Platinum) color and paint is good but the inside of the door frames, especially the upper inside portion of the roof/door opening, is spotty/blotchy. It looks like insufficient paint/color. The front and rear bumpers appear to have been painted at a different location than the body, because I noticed small inclusions and dirt in the bumper paint. A liitle disappointing when even $20k Japanese cars have more uniform paint quailty than the Rspec.

I thank all of your post replies to my comments of last week, I was surprised to come across this Genesis Owner's web site and was impressed by the quality of some comments by various members. I do not usually participate in these types of web based activities because I feel sometimes some folks do not use this media correctly...
To answer some of your threads post my message of last week, when I dropped my Genesis to the dealer this morning to replace the auto entry driver's side handle, I did advise the dealership that I wanted to return this car based on all of the issues, at this point I don't care to get anythign in return just fed up of all the issues, I'll see upon my car pick up if there is an open mind to my request of this morning.
As for the deterioration of the leather, I was told this morning by the technical advisor that he had been and worked in the Hyundai booth during the last Montreal car show and that he came across other owners who had had that same problem. Furthermore I do not use any products that could arm the seat surface finish. The problem that occurs is the seat filler material eventually starts coming through the holes in the leather itself. These small holes are there for the seat heating/cooling feature, in my case almost 50% of my seat had little furry hairs seeping from it, it looked like little strings of fur coming out of the seat!
As for the mag wheel problems (Surface delaminating) I was confirmed by a Fast Wheel representative that Hyundai did have an undercoat primer issue that resulted in the delamination of the surface finish. With this delamination when in contact with sunlight and/or cleaning products it ends up turning black and there was nothing to do but to either change the mags or have them re-coated which was the solution adopted by my dealer/Hyundai in my circumstance.

As for the electrical problems, it is not loose wiring, it is an intermittent computer issue that they just cannot seem to find. To be honest with all of you, I haven't had any screen/computer issues in six months or so. I've had the seat belt light indicator come on when on the highway but other then that it's been quiet on this front lately! :-)

They could never fix the front proximity sensor issue so I now shut off the system altogether.

I certainly don't want to sound like I whinny pants with you guys, I'm still smiling every time something happens, it's just that I have had so many issues it is somewhat funny! At the end of it all, it is just a car and there are worst things to be worried about. I'll see how they will eventually conduct themselves, I did tell them this morning that I came across this web site and that I had posted some of my problems, I did say "some" because I had more problems that I did not identified to you all, I didn't want you guys to think that I was a competitor to Hyundai posting these comments for ulterior motives...

I have looked into possible "Lemon Car" Canadian protection agencies as some of you have mentioned. I discovered that although different in Canada Vs the United States, there is an official Canadian arbritation agency that is responsible for such situations. In case this may be of interest to some of you Canucks! Here is the name and web coordinates for this agency:

Name: CAMVAP - Canadian Motor Vehicly Arbitration Plan
Web site: www.camvap.ca/index.htm
Accessible in both French and English

Bought used. Two minor issues:
1. Had a bad door lock solenoid, replace under warranty.

2. Hood tamper switch rubber button missing, killed battery after a week at the airport. Also fixed under warranty, no harm done to battery.

Great car.

The hood tamper switch problem appears to be one experienced by several folks, including myself. Warning sign is if you lock the car and the lights don't flash and the beeper doesn't sound. Had mine replaced under warranty last week.

New problem this week...brought it in due to an intermittent check engine light. Turns out they need to replace a sensor and both head gaskets. Unfortunate, but again it's still under warranty.

Just finished 1 year with my 2012 3.8 tech and so far, not one problem! Not to say everything is perfect, but the issues I have are with a a couple of design features, like driver's seat position and excessive road noise. It was delivered with a 2010 GPS data base, and no update is available (so they tell me) and having to pay for one when it is available is annoying. However, it is the first new car I have ever owned that has had no issues with rattles, fit, trim or non-functional equipment!

Hello everyone. My name is Rob and I am new to this forum.
I have joined because I am seeking feedback from other 2011 4.6 owners regarding my issue.
My car has 2900 miles on it. I bought it last October as a gift fro myself and I have loathed the decision since shortly thereafter...
When the cruise control is disengaged during speeds ranging from 40-65 m.p.h., the car DOES NOT slow down/lose speed/decelerate for at least a full second and a half. The car also behaves identically when cruising using the accelerator pedal.
Let me tell you, it is scary. I must "guage" when my next stop will be or I'll be forced to apply the brakes very aggressively; the car still wants to go. It DOES NOT accelerate, only maintains momentum.
The dealer has told me for the last 5 months that this is the normal driving characteristics of this particular model and everything is "operating within specs."
Well, I have had in excess of 50 vehicles in my life, and not one of them failed to slow down when I took my foot off of the accelerator or disengaged the cruise control using the steering wheel control-or my foot tapping on the brake.
Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

I just bought out my lease. I loved the Genesis V8 that much. I do have one thing happening, the engine lite has been coming on and off on start up with a sound like something is cackling, cluck cluck cluck...and then it starts. It doesn't do it at the dealer but they said the next time the light comes on to bring it in...anyone have this?

By not slowing down you mean it's maintaining that speed even after turning off / disengaging the cruise control? That would sound like a stuck throttle body issue which is easily fixed under warranty. Also keep in mind that our cruise control is much more advanced then most cars, as it is and adaptive system using a radar to maintain a set distance from the vehicle in front of us. It has 3 distance setting values which you can choose from.

One of my 2012 Genesis fob batteries is almost completely dead. I must plug it in to the car at least once a week to get it to work. My other fob is also significantly decreased in effectiveness. Must have the key physically very close to the handle to get it to unlock. Need to take them to the dealer to have replaced.

Anyone have a similar issue with a new genesis?

I have had a problem with wipers..they won't turn, on occasionally. If I stop and turn off for 15+ minutes it usually start right away. I have an appt Tuesday to replace motor(warranty) I have a 2009 Genesis 3.8. They wouldn't replace first couple of times I went to dealer...they couldn't replicate. I pointed out though that eventually I would be driving 70mph and it starts raining and that could create a major safety hazard.
I will let you know if it solves the problem.

The volume on my nav/radio stopped working as in everything worked but no volume. The volume controls had to effect. About a 1/2 later it started to work normally.

Well, had the opportunity to add a few new issues to the complaints list this week.

So here's the running list...
1) DIS knob stopped working...replaced under warranty
2) Steering wheel tilt/shift (twice)...steering column replaced under warranty
3) Check Engine light (three times)...sensors replaced under warranty
4) Sunroof failed to close/jammed. Fixed under warranty.
5) SCC cruise control malfunction warning light...still being diagnosed.

Had new Wiper motor installed, free, today. Will let you know how it turns out in a couple of weeks.

With respect to number 2 mine has also been in for 2 times and it’s still acting up. Sometimes works other times not. Did the steering column fix work ? (2011 model)

There are TSBs on this and a steering column was not metioned. Only new limit switch and control module.
