If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have you seen any/many Genesis on the streets?

I don't know about this site sometimes. I went to Philly International and parked my other car at the door of the first floor parking garage in "D" and there was a beautiful, light blue Genesis V8. Not sure why you all never see any other Genesis's around town but there are out there.
If the "other" Genesis is in Philly, I'll never see it in the DC/Balto area...

There are a few in Central Pennsylvania, BUT the dealers have one at most where last year at this time they would have 5 or 6. I'm betting that Hyundai pulls the plug on the Genesis Sedan in the US at some point in the future. I love my 4.6, but they are not generating the kind of numbers they need to be successful. On the other hand they are spending big bucks advertising the new Sonota (very different vehicle for a different audience) and selling a bunch of them! This is just my opinion, but time will tell!

In that case, Infiniti, Lexus and Audi should pull the plug on the M, GS and A6 (much less Volvo and Saab w/ their offerings in the segment).

The Genesis sedan was the 3rd best selling E segment import sedan for 2009 (after the E Class and 5 Series) - outselling the above by significant margins (the Genesis is even outselling the new M) and an extremely healthy 45% or so of Genesis sales is for the 4.6.

You'd have a much better argument w/ the Genesis coupe - which has been a complete flop thus far w/ regard to hitting its sales target, but the next-Genesis Coupe will go upmarket and be a lower volume model.

Selling 15-17K Genesis sedans annually is fine as long as Hyundai as a volume seller utilizing the Genesis platform - which they hopefully will w/ the smaller, entry-level RWD sedan they have in development.

Funny In southern california.. where you would think would be a low market for hyundais. I see genesis sedans and coupes a lot.

Infiniti, Lexus and Audi are separate brands that need the models listed for their lineups. They also need all the volume they can get. And the models you list are priced to return a higher profit than the Genesis. A better comparison might be Toyota's Avalon. They expect to sell 40,000 units of the 2011 model. But even after six years, they oped for a refresh instead of a redesign and there are rumors that the Avalon will eventually be replaced with a stretched Camry. If the Avalon could not break 15 - 20k units per year, how long would it be around?

I think that Hyundai has too much invested in the Genesis to think about pulling the plug anytime soon. But I also think the next gen Genesis will be crucial to its success in North America. Will it compete more directly with the luxury brands or will it move downmarket (Azera will be gone by then) or stay where it is? And will it develop its own design language? Keeping a model in the lineup and giving it the proper care and feeding to succeed are two different things. I'm hoping the next generation will have a 5L V8, air suspension option, proper passenger seat controls, an upgraded interior and a less derivative exterior even though it would cost more.

Just back from a trip from Los Angeles to B/C and back, not a single Genesis. On the way back, in Oregon, checked at a dealership for an airfilter, and none around. Closest was Sacramento.

While the large, FWD sedan segment has shrunk over the years, sales of the Taurus and Maxima are relatively healthy and have taken significant market share away from the Avalon.

Also, you contradict yourself here - you speak of Infiniti, Lexus, etc. needing all the volume that they can get, but sales of their E segment sedans seem hardly worth the trouble of developing a next gen model.

Plus, I'm also speaking from the viewpoint that Hyundai is planning to spin of their Genesis based models into a separate brand.

Btw, the LS400 (the flagship of the Lexus fleet) sold for the 1st couple of years at around $35K - which was closer to the price of a loaded C Class than a loaded E Class (much less the S Class).

Hyundai is making a healthy profit from Genesis sales in the US (well, the sedan, at least); despite the higher MSRP for the new Infiniti M, Infiniti is already having to discount the M heavily.

Hardly.

The Genesis will continue to be the core for Hyundai's luxury offerings since the Genesis platform will continue to serve as the basis for not only the Genesis sedan and coupe (which will be going upscale), but for the Equus, a smaller RWD sedan and likely a CUV as well (not to mention Kia's RWD offering, the K9).

As for the Azera (the Avalon, Taurus, etc. competitor), it's not going anywhere since the next-gen Azera will hit the dealers sometime in 2011 or 2012 (w/ its Kia sibling, the K7, to hit dealers a bit earlier).

I still wonder why all of the dealers (observed by me) in Central PA and in the Baltimore area have no 2010 Genesis sedan inventory. It sure is tough selling from an empty wagon??

Infiniti sold 1065 M models in May which accounted for 13% of total sales (8091 units), so yes they do need the volume. And Infiniti could hardly justify a separate dealership without a large or midsized offering.

While Hyundi may spin off the Genesis as a separate brand, I doubt they will have a separate dealership network. The "showroom within a showroom" concept is probably the best we can hope for. Given current Acura and Infiniti sales, I wonder if Honda and Nissan would go the saperate dealership route if they were making the decision (and investment) now.

Given the costs to develop and launch the Genesis, as well as the steep discounts available, I doubt that Hyundai is yet making much of a profit on either the sedan or coupe sales here in North America.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Having spent last night at the Hyatt Regency next to Seoul's Incheon airport, I must report that there is no shortage of Genesis sedans here. However, one will not see any colors other than black and silver. Also, one will not see 18" wheels -all appear to have 17's. I am told that Koreans are upset at the low cost Hyundai sells the Genesis in the US. The seem to think that they are being sold at a loss in the US in order for Hyundai to boost its JD Powers rating.

The cost is higher, because they are much more loaded than they are here.

And there's no way they are at a loss for selling cars. They cost a fraction to manufacture.

Price in Korea is more expensive even when comparing a similarly equipped version.
FYI, a fully loaded 3.8 is about 56353 USD.

I've seen 2 Genesis sedans the last 3 days. That makes around 7 or 8 total since they came out! Sweet:D Both V6 and black and Flying "H" sporting the rear of both.

I have yet to see another Genesis sedan with the Wings. I'm pretty sure, most Genesis owners probably do not know they exist, and aren't into cars as much as some of us on the forum, and wouldn't care about then wings even if they knew about them.

Scott, the island I live on is about nine miles long and at the widest point about 1/4 of a mile. We have 1000 full time residents. Yesterday I saw a black Genny coming toward me on the main drag! Looked in the mirror and saw that he had the badge conversion on the trunk lid.

I saw one in Wilmington NC one day, but I just haven't seen that many.

I live in Silicon Valley and have seen two Genesis (one a dealer's demo) in the two years that I've had mine.

Does anyone have the latest sales totals? It's a great car. Why isn't Hyundai advertising it more?

I see a decent no. of Genesis sedans in the NYC metro area, but in MD, I see a Genny maybe once a week.

However, I drove down to N VA recently and saw 4 Genesis sedans and a couple of coupes within a span of 2 hrs.

Another thing, I don't see too many of the 2011 Sonatas in MD either, but they seem to be everywhere in VA.

I live outside Houston, but spend most of my time in the mammoth city.
I'm completely surprised that I have seen ZERO, NADA, NO, None other Genesis on the highway.
How about in other cities on this board?
Are we the only mad ones out there?

2 Others in total in the Winter Park, FL area....1 Coupe (2.0T) and 1 Sedan (4.6L)...I'm the only Genny 3.8L in Sterling Blue Metallic in my area that I'm aware of.

Pics of my Genesis with Air Blue 80 Tint + 3M Clear-Bra on the Bumper and Mirrors..Thanks to my friends at PHANTOMSHIELD of Winter Park, FL:
