  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have you seen any/many Genesis on the streets?

Last Tuesday, I saw four Genesis's on the streets along the NJ Turnpike and in North Central New Jersey. That was the most I had ever seen in one day. A good thing must be getting the word out.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Take note, Stoofpilot! I thought I saw you a couple of days ago on NC130 proceeding toward Holden Beach. Sterling Blue indeed. But it's not the 16th so I imagine it was someone else.

I spotted a brand new Platinum on NC130 just a few minutes ago. Heading north and I recognized the driver. A friend of mine as a matter of fact, though I have not seen her in some time. Local realtor. She must have traded in her Highlander. Good decision.

Really?! I must be doing something terribly wrong to my V6 then. I get like 22-25 city and like 28ish highway. I hold a constant 75-80mph. Otherwise, here in NJ, you would get runover on the highway.

Is something wrong with my car?

I get less than 20 in the city, and only crack 30 on the highway when I set the cruise for considerably slower than I would normally drive and am able to keep it on cruise for a long distance.

So, on a business trip to a customer in North Jersey I saw three Hyundai Genesis's. One on the Garden State Parkway, one parked in a bank parking lot where my appointment was and the other was a Genesis Coupe parked at a house along the way (no picture). That along with one a week before in Staten Island. It must be becoming the "hot car"! I love my Genesis!:)

OK Sarge so then Im not doing too bad.

Drove a buddy who has a 2010 3 series xi and he was highly impressed with the car. He was amazed by the room and the power output.

Fun day in NC: On my way to TN, I stopped in Sunset Beach NC for bagel and parked nose to nose with a Platinum 2009 with the NC vanity plate "TAXMAN." I saw him pull away, never seemed to notice my car in front of him.

So after driving all day toward Asheville all day, I was coming up the twisty 64/74A heading for Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Bat Cave, and Gerton. I noticed that two in front of me was a 3.8 2009/10 Platinum with NC plates. After all the slow traffic cleared it was just the two of us. He was trying to lose me going down the mountain but I kept up. He may have had the 2010 stiffer suspension! We finally hit a 4-lane in Fairview and I passed him so he could see my license. We gave each other the high sign a couple of times as we passed. It was fun but my wife was yelling at me coming off the mountain. I suppose his wife may have been doing the same.

Ron:rolleyes:

In the Los Angeles area I see Genesis sedans almost every time I go out for more than a run to the gas station. Most are rebadged. Lot of people here.

Sounds like a great day in a beautiful part of the world, Ron. Have you ever driven U.S. 129 from Deal's Gap, NC to the Tennessee line? 318 curves in 11 miles, one of the greatest motorcycle/sports car roads in the country. We did it a couple years ago in the '90 Nissan 300ZX twin turbo and had more fun than you can imagine--even at the legal limit. Google "tail of the dragon" for more info.

I'm an old veteran of the Tail of the Dragon. I have owned 3 Mazda MX5 Miata's, '95, '99, '01. I have driven the Deal's Gap roads backward and forward. Miata's at the Gap, the last weekend of July every year. I finally sold my last Miata a few weeks ago. They just don't do well 150' from the ocean. The undercarriage rust and suspension damage is severe. But, I sure will miss the Gap. No, I have not tried the Genesis on the Dragon. Hmmm, I don't think it would keep up with the Miata in my humble opinion.

I'm in Northern California. I would say that I see about 2-3 per week. Mostly gray and white. In So Cal a couple months ago I saw one that looked kinda like burgundy brown.

We live in Central Ohio and see them quite often. Gray, white, black. Actually, you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a Genny. LOL
Q

I live outside Houston, but spend most of my time in the mammoth city.
I'm completely surprised that I have seen ZERO, NADA, NO, None other Genesis on the highway.
How about in other cities on this board?
Are we the only mad ones out there?

I live in the Atlanta, GA area, I saw three Genesis/G80’s on Saturday (5/12/2018)

I live in central NJ and in my area I have not seen many at all. But as a truck driver that goes up and down the east coast I have seen several, especially in NYC. It seems that the newer models are being used for car services. 1st gen models are hard to come by on the streets.

So far in coming up on 2 months, I've only seen one G80. However, in walking yesterday not to far from my home I saw the following...

In googling a Genesis Coupe as per badge, I saw a 2016 with what looked like the same body, but had a Hyundia badge in the center of the grill. This one has a small Genesis type wings plus the same on the trunk. Wondering if this model was rebadged with Genesis type logos.

The problem is the incompetence of Genesis management. The rollout as a separate brand was an unmitigated disaster.

Now they are backtracking and allowing many Hyundai dealers to keep their franchises. I have heard from people who work at the local dealer where I have purchased many cars and they didn't know what to make of it but that the ones who were handling this just simply didn't know what they were doing. Having a franchise is not an insignificant matter. And now they want the staff to be fully briefed and trained to sell them and it is just sad.

I look for the G90 to fade away. The G80, the G70 and the eventual SUV can carry the brand.

Hyundai's discontinuance of the Azera meant they had no top line model to sell to the public. With the G80 they could have sold a lot more of them than they do now.

They may not recover at all. I'm thinking of selling my 2017 G80 even though it only has 6,900 miles on the clock. Sits in my garage most of the time and just going with one of the Hyundai models that are being redesigned. It is nice but not necessary with the age of the SUV. The sedan is a dying breed and people of my age and our aching backs don't like to get in and out of a low slung sedan.

Yes, that Genesis Coupe was rebadged. Many, many Genesis Coupes and Sedans are rebadged...

Around here, I see tons of second generation Genesis Sedans and lots of G80s. I see a few Equus' and G90s as well. Lots and lots of Genesis Coupes. First generation Sedans are becoming scarce... Not sure why. I do see them occassionally - but not nearly as much as the newer models.

I hear the Genesis isn't as popular up north. Not sure why. Maybe the lack of all wheel drive on some models...

I'm sure they'll get their act together. Give them some time. It sounds like the upcoming CUV will be a good bet for you...
