  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Head Unit Problems

"MM-CAN"
Can you explain what this is?
My problem started as poor AM radio reception. They plugged in a new amp, but that didn't do anything (i'm assuming they plugged back old amp).
Then the head unit was replaced (part 0021-G9001-FLT)and it was all good. Then the am/FM radio stations wouldn't come on at all, but the XM and CD worked. The AV Keyboard assy was replaced Part - 9611-3M150-GV. The next morning the whole thing froze. So at a red light I turned off car and restarted, and it was all good. It's worked fine since then. Any thoughts?

I have very poor AM reception - whining, static kind of useless for the AM.

Took it to a dealer and they said things were operation and OK.

Hmmmm......

I saw your signature about the ten kinds of people in the world, I assume your were referring to the 1's and 0's since that's the only kind that can mate. I can determine that from their shape, and it's a good thing because they can count to really big numbers without need anything but more 1's and 0's and there are only boys and girls so it all works out. :D :D

0010 = 2
0100 = 4
1000 = 8
0011 = 3

That's Binary code...:D:D

UPDATE:

The dealer replaced the head with a new unit. No luck - same problems as before. To sumarize:

The car returned to the dealer in late January - dealer ordered wrong amp

The car returned to the dealer in early Feb - dealer ordered correct amp, amp did not function

The car returned to dealer in mid Feb - dealer ordered new amp, amp functioned properly and did not fix problem

The car returned to dealer in early March, dealer ordered and installed new head unit, head unit did not fix problem.

So far, I've owned the car for 4 months. Six weeks of that period, the car has not functioned properly. The dealership GM has been honest and clear - this is not his problem. This is Hyundai's problem, and any solution I get will come from Hyundai, not the dealer.

If the tech can't fix it he should contact Tech line and if it can't be repaired by the tech then they should request a Feild engineer to come take a look. If the dealership does the diagnostic step by step your car will be fixed. Hyundai has people available to come and repair vehicles that the techs can't figure out. They just need to quit throwing parts at it and make the proper calls.

I am glad I found this thread. I am experiencing the exact problem. I will take my car in to the dealer this week or next.

I have a 4.6 Tech. The symptoms when I bush the Voice command button are:

70% of time I will get a "Please Wait" then 10 seconds later a "Ping"
20% of time the system just does noting
10% of the time the system just locks up until turning off and on the car again

:mad::mad::mad:

My voice command button healed itself. Today, it works perfectly!! When I put the button on the steering wheel, I no longer hear the "Please Wait". I hear "Ping" and it takes my command as expected.

Anyone of you have experenced this kind of self-healing of Genesis?

Has the weather in your area changed significantly - especially temperature? Many folks have experienced problems in cooler weather... or when the passenger side of the trunk bakes in hot sunshine.

Yes. Last week or so were around 50's. Yesterday and today are in the 70's. Let me start tracking the issues with the temperature see if I can find any assoication between the two.

More update:

Dealer replaced the Amp again - 4th time. Got a remanufactured amp that hadn't been cleared form the previous owners XM account, so it could not be associated with my account. Dealer ordered a new Amp - for the 5th time. Called to tell me the amp had arrived. I decided to get an attorney instead. This car is a lemon, and I no longer desire to drive a $40K lemon.

Hyundai Motors customer service folks finally called me back after over a week. They do not intend to do anything except call the dealer and ask the dealer to fix the problem.

I experienced similar disconnects on my 2010 3.8 Tech. It coincided with my cutoff date for XM radio. I chose not to renew my XM service and the cutoff date was to be 3-1-10 on 3-8-10 XM was cut off and that is when I started to have the “please wait” and long pauses before the ping. When I requested AM or FM it would not change channels. Sometimes it would eventually change channels. What I noticed was when I was in my garage without an XM signal everything worked fine. It seems like there is a glitch in the software that when outside it kept looking for the XM signal and would re run the check program and keep looking for the signal.
It took 2 days for it to reset but now it is working great. Can anyone else comment on this?
Fiat.

It coincided with my cutoff date for XM radio.

Now you mentioned the end of XM trial subscription, my voice command problem started about the same time the subscription ended.

Similar to FIAT's system, my system is totally fine now. So, the voice command issue may not be related to the temperature but to he XM trial subscrption.

Let me keep my finger crossed. Will report back if problem occurs again.

Update:

The unit began functioning properly this weekend - until Sunday when I plugged my iPod in. Lost everything again, until I left the car idle for about two hours. That reset everything and it's all working again. Clearly, this car has systemic problems with the DIS, and Hyundai seems not at all interested.

I've just had a head unit replaced, after a multi-month hassle with the dealer and Hyundai (see the "Audio Whine" thread). It solved my problem. The dealer was over their head with this problem and Hyundai was not helpful absent a lot of very intense followup on my part. Overall it was a negative, time wasting experience that could have been positive with a different attitude on the part of Hyundai. Their Consumer Affairs folks would apologize profusely whenever I called, but apologies don't fix a problem.

All the ridiculous back and forth nonsense has been deleted. Personally, I can't believe a simple, "Hyundai cares about your problem" reply had to turn into a feud between two members...

DO NOT reply here unless you're discussing the topic at hand.

0101=5
0110=6
0111=7

1111=16 which is why 4 squared is 16 :D

The dealer just replaced my Head Unit ($4900.00) due to a Nav Issue. When selecting state that was the lowest level of search ability. They tried to reloead the s/w but no luck.

Glad the warranty was intact still.

Ouch. That's a lot of $.

The head unit is only covered for 3 years/36000 miles under the warranty, so be sure to get your head unit in for service is something is acting up... That's a really hefty repair bill to pay
