Does the AM interference vary with engine RPMs? Issues with the alternator cause an RPM-dependent "whine" on AM typically.
Spark plug wire issues will cause an RPM-dependent buzz instead of a whine. Wiring issues at the fuel pump can lead to a whine or buzz. Got a hand-held AM radio? Wave it around the engine, rear trunk area, underneath the car, etc. to see if it can pick up the same noise.
If the interference doesn't vary with RPMs then try turning the car ON without actually starting the engine (push START twice without foot on the brake) or, with the engine running, put the transmission in NEUTRAL instead of park and hit the START button. Noise present or not? If it's still there it's some unshielded or un-grounded wiring issue somewhere. Posts from long ago mentioned radio noise when the rear defroster was turned ON.
