Hello all,
This is my first post here and am proud to be a new Genesis owner. I purchased a Caspian Black 2015 Ultimate Sedan with 38k miles earlier this month and absolutely love it. Coming from someone who was all about fast BMW's and Mercedes, I am wholeheartedly satisfied and pleased with every single aspect of how luxurious I feel every single time I push-to-start. I even catch myself double-taking every time I leave the vehicle and just saying "damn, good call"
Anyways, on to the reason for this post - today on my way to work I noticed an awkward yet very subtle rattle coming from the dash/under the hood area ONLY when I would hit 25-30 mph. I then began to notice an even subtler rattling noise when in Drive and stopped idling at a light. It wasn't concerning enough to warrant a pull over, but as soon as I got out of the car I popped the hood open to check on things. It seemed as if this noise was derivative of the engine cover as I could visibly see it shaking, so I decided to try and put the vehicle in Drive and put on the emergency brake, and the hood cover started shaking a little more than when in Park. Audibly, the noise went away when in Park.
What's interesting is the noise it makes when I hit 25-30 mph. If I lay on the throttle very lightly and approach 25-30 mph, it gives me a soft rattle/clacking noise (perhaps the engine cover but entirely unsure) and immediately goes away as I exceed 30 mph.
My question for anyone a little more well versed in these vehicles is this - Is this something natural a car should do or can engine covers be tightened? Is there perhaps an underlying cause that is making my engine cover shake a little more than it should be? I honestly don't want to pay $140 for a diagnostic from Hyundai only for them to tell me the engine cover is looser than it should be or something very basic.
