  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Home screen freezes up

The common thread here appears to be the 9.2-inch HD navigation system with DIS Multimedia Controller. That can affect cars back to 2015. All the cars get at least the preview channels to Sirius XM whether they subscribe or not. Still other makes are not having this problem. This means there must be a software conflict on the Genesis side. This many cars affected in such a short time span doesn't seem like a random event.
Here's a text I got from my Service Concierge March 17th:

I just called into SiriusXM customer relations. They’re the only ones who can remove Traffic and TraveLink subscriptions.

after removing these two features and refreshing the radio signal my radio is finally working.

Con: when using the navigation there is no calculating the fastest route based on current traffic.

Also, the ability to record on all 18 presets is still not working. Only can record on first 6 presets. This is definitely an issue related to the MapNSoft update v.14
How long did it take to work after you canceled your subscription?

This worked for me. It took a few days and I called their number to get a signal refresh sent to my phone. That took about 5 minutes to go through, but all is well now. SirusXM even refunded the difference of the add-on package term. Nice! This place is a great resource!

Thanks for your response. Do you mean it took a few days after you canceled the subscription to start working?

It took a few days after cancelling to update the radio. I don’t drive much since I work from home and you have to expose your car to the satellite to update it

Is XM travel link needed for the navigation system to work?
No. Travel Link provides extra stuff like traffic info, weather reports/maps & etc.

Mine stays mostly in the driveway - all I did after cancelling Travel Link was request a refresh in the car & things starting working normally.

Are you talking about a Sirius XM refresh? I have tried that and mine is still frozen. My situation is Genesis told me they already processed my request and disabled the feature. On top of that, I had Sirius XM cancel travel link. After all of that mine is still frozen and lagging. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should do? Is there a way for genesis to refresh the system?

Yes - refresh.

I'd try the reset button that is located on the faceplate of the head unit - get a pen or a paperclip & hold it in for about 5-10 sec. That'll reboot the system.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have tried that like a 100 times. No luck :(

I just purchased a 18 G80 Sport. And have noticed the home screen will allow you to move to each icon, but won't let you choose them. I have tried touching the screen, as well as the center knob. Neither will let me enter into any app. Or it will freeze when in an app. Can't change the radio or use the navigation. Anyone experience this?
I have had multiple problems with my 2018 G80 radio/head unit. Blank screen, unable to change Sirius radio channels, the CD turning on by itself, navigation freezing, etc.
I took it 2 times to the dealer with no luck, I could not up date the mapsoft data as the dealer requested to 14.1.
I called Genesis Customer Support and Mapsoft support.
Mapsoft old 14.10 update is not available online because it has a "BUG" waiting for new Mid-April update not yet released.
Genesis Customer Supports knows about the problem due to a "conflict" between the LG Radio unit and Sirius "Travel Link"
a tip off is an intermittent "Favorite Program Update" pop up on the radio screen that indicates the radio is talking to Sirius and screwing up the programing.
Suggest that you find out the Sirius Radio number on channel Zero of your car give it to Genesis who contact Sirius who detach the "Travel Link" to your car and stop the problem. You still need to use the small "reboot" button just above the CD slot intermittently until the block to "Travel link" occurs (takes up to 3-5 days).
Sirius is working on permanent software fix for this problem, No release date available.
Do not know if Genesis is thinking about changing Radio Manufactures?
Would You Trust a Self Driving Car??? NO WAY.

Anyone who is not subscribed to Travel link or Sirius noticing the same problem with the home screen/navigation freezing?

I have a 2017 G80 Ultimate 5.0 , and started to have problems with XM radio (freeze) that escalated to even Navigation system freeze. I have tried reset, only helped for 15 min then got the freeze. I actually went ahead and downloaded the latest Software and Maps (2020 Nov) and installed that with SD card. While many things changed (mostly good and only few annoying bad changes) that did not help either. I resent the signal using Sirius XM website to my car... no change.

I spoke with my service adviser (San Jose) and she was very helpful and courteous to explain that there are MANY other people with this issue. It seemed to start in NY state and now all over the US MANY car owners suffer from the same (mostly Genesis). They are consulting with Sirius XM, Hyundai and Genesis to resolve the issue. Changing the "head unit" will not help, this is software issue not hardware I am being told. I was told they let me know when they know more and how to fix it.
Hey

UPDATE:
I spoke with service dept at Genesis and they said it has been CONFIRMED that the travel link system coding caused the issue. SIRIUS XM radio ADMITTED the issue is on their side but they do not know why things lead to freezing G80 systems. Genesis tech said the signal coding somehow overloads the memory in the system to which the system is not designed for to happen...thus it freezes up.

XM guys recoded many things which fixed most but not all system issues but that means there is still some parts of their coding that are wrong. As a result they disconnected travel link services except the traffic sub service. Until the rest of the travel link coding is fixed they won't turn it back on. When they get it fixed drivers will get extended service making up for the lost subscription time due to this problem.

I will let you know if I hear more

That is great to hear. You must have had a better guy than I got. Mine didn't give me any details. Do you happen to know why some would still be frozen after Sirius XM was cancel and disabled by Genesis? I had it done yesterday but mine is still frozen today.

After turning off the travel link option, suggest you get an XM/Sirius refresh signal sent to your radio. And then turn off the car and open the door to fully turn off radio. That worked for me. From that point on, I have had no problems.

Does anyone happen to know how long the car should be disconnected from the battery for the memory to reset in the navigation unit? Or how long it should be discounted for the navigation unit to completely shut down?

Do NOT advise to do battery disconnect!!!!

It will affect other systems too, and may cause issues.

To reset the head unit/nav use the reset button on the right side. Small little black button, use a pen to push it for 10 sec. That is the hard reset.

This is what my dealership told me to do

I would
1, update your Nav and OS. It is free jusf need a memory card or flash drive . I got a very fast sd card that I plugged into my laptop where I installed genesis nav updater software.

If step 1, is not applicable go to
2, hard reset your head unit. Use the reset button (small black button on the right).I used a pen.

3, Ask XM radio to resend the signal.

Hope this helps
