If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How free from rattles are the Genesis?........

A rattle from the right front passenger door and a loose wind deflector in the sun-roof. Sun roof repaired and of course rattle is quiet when car approaches the dealership.

If you're quite handy, try removing the door panel and apply some sound deadening material.
I knocked on every single part of the door panel to pinpoint the rattle.
And after using some dynamat and sticky insulation, the noise are gone.

If it was only that simple. While we can hear the rattle, there is no vibration from any door panel, dash component etc to indicate where it is. I even had a 10 year old in the car to identify were the rattle was and he could not find the spot.

Generally it only happens when a passenger is in the car and pulling down on the grab handle stops the noise. No it isn't the handle it self as I have placed foam rubber all round the handle to see if the noise would stop.

I had a friend who builds custom vehicles also look and he is as puzzled as I am.

Still a puzzle.

EXACTLY where my rattle was coming from.
There are 2 bolts, besides the clips, that holds the panel to the metal frame on the door.
One is behind the door opening handle(chrome piece), and the other one is visible inside the grab handle pocket once you remove the rubber pad.

That bolt inside the grab handle is fastened to an 'L' shaped metal support that is riveted on to the inner door skin(sheet metal)
Funny thing is, it looks very solid since it's RIVETED on to the surface but when I knock on that area, the rattle(metallic rattle) is coming from that L shaped piece.
I stuffed some foam between the L frame and sheet metal and also applied quite a bit of Dynamat to it and voila! the noise is gone.

You did a good job locating the source. You just didn't get a chance to look behind the panel and see it for yourself.

It was bothering the $hit out of me, I had to fix it.
Good luck with yours.

Dan, could you please explain how to remove the door panel. I might tackle this project when it gets a little bit cooler.

My 2010 4.6 Tech has began developing a rattle that it seems to be coming from the passenger sun visor. Did you get yours fixed?

No, mine is still rattling. It has something to do with the sliding mirror but haven't determined how to fix it!

We've got about 1100 miles on ours and a slight rattle has developed somewhere in the rear deck area. At first I thought it was the sunshade but it's not. Need to find time to isolate it. It rattles intermittently going over small bumps so it doesn't take much.

Sure. It's fairly easy compared to other manufacturer's vehicles.

Make sure the windows are down all the way before starting this.

There are 2 philips screws; 1 behind the door handle(chrome door open handle) and 1 underneath the rubber mat/cover inside the grab handle.
Also there's a philips screw type plastic clip closer to the hinge that needs to be removed.

You can simply pry the plastic cover behind the chrome handle to expose the screw, and for the rubber mat inside the pocket, grab a flat head screw driver and try to lift up the rubber piece to expose the screw.

Once these screws/clip are removed, you can simply start pulling the door panel starting from the lower panel gab closer to the rubber strip.
It's held by plastic clips, so pull hard enough to snap them loose.
You might damage a clip or two.. I damaged 1 of them while doing both the front doors. No biggie.

Once all the clips are removed, lift the whole panel upwards to release the seems that are slided on at the top. It'll come off easily.
Disconnect all the connectors at the back and the door opening/locking cables assembly.(It was held by a clip type connector. Easy to figure out)

Once you have the panel removed, you'll see which 'L' shape metal piece I'm talking about.
Try knocking around that area and see if it rattles.
Both the front doors on mine did, and by stuffing in some rubber/foam pieces between the sheet metal and the L piece, the noise were gone.

Another rattle source for me was the dial portion for the side mirror adjusting switches.
I had to remove the buttons assembly from the door panel(Just held by clips; slides out very easily), and disassemble to shove in some foam pieces between the dial plastic and the inner switches)

Take your time and tackle this one step at a time.
It should be time consuming, but well worth the effort once it's 100% rattle free. :)
Let me know if you have more questions.

Will the dealer fix these small rattles under warranty?
