  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How often do you change your engine oil?

I thought I was supposed to get my engine oil changed every 5000 miles, not 3000 but the dealership (two different ones) keeps scheduling the next appointment after 3000 miles. Is that normal?

I thought non synthetic oils are supposed to last 5000 with the synthetic lasting 7500 or more?

Yes it's normal... because they want more of your money.... and a chance to sell you more services each time you come in.
IMHO- go by the service requirements in your owner's manual- and use synthetic oil.

As noted above, the wallet drain interval is 3000 miles.

every 5000 miles because I like to make it simple to keep up when one of my vehicles is due an oil change. Multiples of 5000 makes it easy for everyone in the family to know when an oil change is due.

The owners manual states:
For normal operating conditions: 1 year or 7500 miles which ever comes first.
Severe Conditions: Every 3750 or 6 months.
There is no specification for synthetic motor oil to be used.

It's normal for your dealer to suggest unscheduled oil changes so they can make money and try to sell you maintenece that you don't need.

A lot of this depends on your driving habits and weather conditions. The only way to really know how the oil is responding to your engine is to test the oil.

7500 full synthetic- 10K on my Mercedes (8.5 qts)

2009 4.6 with Tech package. I change every 6 months. I don't put a lot of miles on the car and it never gets over 7500 for the 6 months. Usually quite a bit less.

Every 7,500 miles with Synthetic Oil Have a 2008 with 97,500 miles

So if according to Hyundai schedule of service and if you take your car in and oil was changed just prior to service, you tell them not to change oil/filter and just have them complete the remainder of the scheduled maintenance items? Seems my car will soon be taken in for the 7500 mile service interval but I had a synthetic oil change at 3700 miles so I really do not see need to change the oil.

Just got my oil changed at the dealership and they changed my Service interval for the next oil change to 3,700 from the 7500 i had put in.

Sorry to disagree with so many, but unless I have an excessive amount of mileage, I do not have the synthetic oil changed more than twice a year and so far, no problems.

One of the advantages I thought of synthetic was you don't have to change it as often. According to the window sticker mine is due for an oil change in about 3000 more miles and I plan to use synthetic (amsoil). I don't plan to do more than 2 changes a year as I typically don't put on more than 10k a year.
