  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How to get Apple Carplay/Android Auto in a 2015-2016 Genesis Sedan Ultimate (9.2" Screen) - KPLAY

I got steering wheel media controls working in AA by sending audio through Bluetooth rather than AA. Fixed the ground loop noises and mute+pause works too. I have a CB in the car and the stock aux port is poorly shielded :p
Can you explain how to ?

Did you have to do anything special to make this work, what media player do you use ?. I tried use the Kplay button learning feature but it did not work.
I had a shop do my install so not sure if they did something unique to get that to work. I have gotten decent support from the company via email though trying to get the reverse detect to work correctly so might not be a bad idea to send them a note to ask.

Me & a buddy tried the install and kinda failed miserably - just a black screen for our efforts, not even the "Genesis" boot screen. Got confused on where to tap power for the KPLAY box & what to do with the RCA cabling and aux input. If anyone has any install pics or whatnot to help clear it up, that would be appreciated.

The "instructions" do really well & truly suck! Got frustrated & ran out of time, so we just plugged everything back in stock config. At least all that still works as before....

That’s how far I got before I said F it and took it to a shop. Had all the harnesses, etc plugged in but only had another 45 min or so I could dedicate to it for that day.

So the shop guy was able to do it easily?

Seemed so, but the shop I used said they install lots of carplay units for other cars (even sell them). He hadn't done one on a Genesis before but only took a few hours to get it in and done.

Double check to make sure the splitter harness is firmly connected to the monitor and kplay boxes. It took me approx 4 hours, the hardest part for me was to take the dash apart.

Yeah... We ran out of time yesterday to methodically troubleshoot it. We were also clueless about the AUX cable - didn't seem to be anywhere to plug it in...

Actually, the dash came apart pretty easily - helps if you use power tools.

I only had some plastic dash tool, It took me 30 min after I broke 2 of the plastic dash tool. The aux cable goes from the Kplay 2 harness rca audio out to the car aux plug, you will use the rca stereo male to 3.5 mm male cable.

The Interface box has a square ended cable with Black, Red and Yellow. Cut the square end off and you're left with Black, Red and Yellow wire ends. Black is your ground wire, red is your battery always-on wire and yellow is your ignition switched wire (I think, I had to use a test light to figure out which is which. Just wire the KPLAY box to these.

The RCA/Aux wires go between the KPLAY box and the AUX port on the car. I think the KPLAY2 uses an RCA to 3.5mm adapter.

If you had no screen output whatsoever, it's likely the dip switches are set incorrectly on the interface box or you didn't get a good seat on the wire splitter.
Can you explain how to ?

2 ways- be rooted and able to mod AA to disable audio and TTS sinks, or have an adapter like AA Wireless that gives you toggle switches to kill the sinks and force the phone to use your choice of Bluetooth for audio output. If you pair to the car and use the native Bluetooth media app to control the phone, all the media controls work on the steering wheel and dash while in AA.

If you kill only the Audio sink, any GPS instructions will try and fail to come out the AUX wire on the KPLAY unit. Got to make sure to kill TTS too.

My friend made some notes on what we did - Let me know if translation is needed.

The bundle with the yellow RCAs + touch interface isn't required. Those are secondary video inputs for adding surround view and in rare cases aftermarket screens.

The wire harness between the interface and screen is where your power wires are at. The picture shows bare wires for power but mine came with a 4 pin molex connector installed (useless).

Power is provided by existing screen harness. Do not tap power anywhere else, or connect harness to more power. Everything you need is provided by the splitter harness to interface.

Audio from KPLAY requires going to OEM aux input.

The canbus wires are really simple, pay less attention to the bad picture of multimedia controller connector and just look for the existing red and blue wires next to each other going in one corner of it. Red to red and blue to blue.

The rest of your diagrams look right.

So, I need not to have tapped power for anything from anywhere?

Big shout out to Suburbazine for answering stupid questions! You did your good deed for the day, sir!

The kit's not actually THAT hard to install - if the documentation was better, taking apart the dash would be the hard part...

I echo that sentiment, dash removal was the most difficult part for me too. Did you check out Maps with satellite rendered streets ?.
