  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How to get Apple Carplay/Android Auto in a 2015-2016 Genesis Sedan Ultimate (9.2" Screen) - KPLAY

But the car can't do rear detect on CAN. There is no rear video bit sent on CAN on the multimedia network. I'm pretty sure the only car capable of CAN reverse is the K7.

The instructions are terrible- that's not an either-or option. Also, that's the same interface anyone else gets, only the KPLAY module has been changed.
Yeah - The instructions do suck. Hopefully, a pic can be gotten of these items after it's resolved.

Ok, that make sense, the video interface box seem to have changed based on info I received from another Genesis owner that installed Kplay, he said he received a silver video interface box, the video interface box I received is black.

Kaptrader redesigned the interface with updated firmware (and some better cooling in response to my overheating observations) to work with both KPLAY1 & 2 and a new look to match the KPLAY2 module. It's still all the same hardware inside.

I think you might be misinformed, reverse is on can too, openpilot uses reverse detect and it only uses can.

Yes but WHICH network has reverse on it, and on what side of the central gateway?
You can't read powertrain data off the multimedia network, and the powertrain side doesn't have anything about audio settings on it.

I also just verify, my friend that installed klpay, is using can for his reverse detect. My video interface box has a problem with the can connection, I know it wired correct. I will try get the manufacturer to replace my video interface box.

The existing harness should have a wire connected to #3, if not then your car really is CAN only. If #3 exists, though, that's where your reverse trigger comes from.

Not sure about the technicalities, but my friend kplay works with no wire connected to his kplay reverse wire.

How does he know? The reverse wire isn't a separate wire you splice... It's part of the harness that plugs into the screen?

As per this from the service manual, there is no reverse wire on the monitor connector, 1670894646773.png

I am the friend who has it working on what appears to be CAN.

The reverse wire you brought up is not tapped into. Only MM_CAN is and it's a manual splice, no harness except of course the factory connection. My reverse camera also only started working when I switched the interface DIP switch from wire to CAN.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Finally got my Kplay2 installation completed, my last problem with CAN related features (reverse detect & steering hangup long press) resolved, due to missed wire can wire caused by bad instruction picture in installation manual. (Note : The unit I received does support CAN reverse detect.) While I was at it, I also changed out the 2 front lighter sockets for a 3 port USB (2 USB A & USB C socket) and a USB A and 3.5mm Aux output socket for the KPLAY audio & video out, also added a 3 port usb socket and lighter socket for the rear seat. Overall came out looking good .Thanks to @Suburbazine, @MrXelious and all that assisted.

Found an undocumented KPLAY toggle- double tap Mute switches screen inputs. Useful for not hanging up phone calls when the controls are in AA but you're on the car input.

And it can be done faster than long holding the hang up button.

Did you figure out how to kill a kplay app, when you switch app they are running in the background, like I switch from Google Map to Waze, it seem because they both use the same resources, they seem to be interfering with each other.

Those are handled on the phone itself, for AA I just go to the app on Android and force quit it. Android Auto and Carplay are just glorified video interfaces for the phone, the car hardware doesn't do anything in particular in regards to operating them besides providing GPS and illumination data in some cases (KPLAY doesn't do either). I specify phone GPS in advanced options for AA though.

Waze is a bit weird in that it doesn't have a phone UI when in remote display mode, but Google Maps does. There is a resource issue sometimes where Google maps tries to get exclusive GPS access and Waze fights for it. I don't know of any solution besides force quitting the apps.

I use Sygic as well but it won't fight for GPS access, it just crashes instead and requires relaunching from the phone.

If you're using Android Auto I highly recommend purchasing Android Auto Apps Downloader (sideload application) and getting all the apps. Has a lot of nice things that Google hates and doesn't allow on AA, like screen mirroring, Youtube and some widgets I haven't got a use for.

Just pulled the trigger on the KPLAY box... Watch this space.

I read thru the whole thread. Did you end up needing the 90 degree LVDS? Or the LVDS extension cable?

Curious about all the parts you ordered vs the parts you needed? Thanks
