  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Day #1 with the new Genesis was great! HUD display was flawless and worked as advertised.

Day #2 - not so great...the HUD developed two parallel slanted vertical lines running through the middle of the display from the bottom of the projection area to the top of the projection area. I took the attached photo in the garage last night thinking it would be the best way to see it but its not the best...the graininess is NOT in the HUD display - just my cheap camera shooting in the low light.

In any case you can see the line behind the mph display - its not quite as vivid as the info displayed in the HUD - but pretty close when you see it in person.

Was not there at all (of course) when I picked it up last Tuesday.

Calling service tomorrow to get it in & get it fixed. Hoping the HUD projector isn't too hard to get to. I looked at the display area through the windshield from outside and I don't see anything laying across the display, etc that could be causing it - I think its in the projector itself :(

I'll update the group when resolved.

It's not actually a projector - just an LCD screen that reflects on the windshield. Odd defect for a display screen - maybe the circuitry feeding the display. This is the first HUD issue I've seen - let us know what they say.

Thanks for the correction on the display technology - didn't realize it was that simple...here I am thinking projectors and mirrors :)

...and yeah, I searched "HUD issues", etc and didn't come across anything so I thought this might be unique.

You do realise that the two "slanted parallel lines" (oxymoron?) are the icon for the Lane Departure Warning System. Try turning it off to see if they disappear.

OK, looked at the picture again. Now I see what you are saying. Ignore my response above.

I got my car today and after I started the engine, the HUD was playing only big white rectangle on the windscreen ... Very bad. Tomorrow I will be in the service to check out that.
Anyone?

Well thats not good....is yours a 2016 as well? Mine is going to service tomorrow afternoon so I'll post an update after I hear what the problem is.

yes, mine is 2016 also 3.8 htrac full package ... tomorrow Im in the dealership as well ... hope we will not replace the HUD and it is only a soft failure...

Take a look to see if something did not fall into the area where it projects from on the dash. By the looks of the picture this is my best guess as to your issue.

Did you had some kind of protector for the HuD on your cars?
As I see every glass part has a protector foil on it, the screen for the navigation, the part where indicates the gears and etc.
Can the HuD has a protector which can do this white rectangle in my case??

Just returned from the dealer and the verdict is its a bad HUD. New one ordered and will be here in 3-4 days with the holiday.

Swapping the HUD will shoot most of the day so they are giving me a loaner which was appreciated.

Smirn0ff - I suspect you are going to be doing the same thing :)

Curt

Just got an updated ETA on the replacement HUD....no HUDs in stock at any Hyundai parts depots in the US. Its coming from Korea...3-4 weeks.

:(

Hi Curt,
Do you know the procedure of swapping the HUD? Is it easy to remove or they will need to disconnect and remove the whole front board of the car?

I had similar clarity issues with my HUD in the past and found it to be simply fogged over. Hit the defrost button with heat set to max and it cleared right up.

The service writer said they have to pull the instrument cluster. I thought that might mean they have to pull the steering wheel as well but he thought that might not be necessary. That's all the detail I have at this point.

Yeah, checked that when it first happened and unfortunately this is a defect in the display itself....which based on everything I have read seems really rare. Its the first one my dealership has seen - but then again they have sold very few Genesis.

Curt

Thanks man.
I'm aware of cracking sounds in the dashboard after removal and installing it again. That's why I'm asking about the procedure

Tomorrow I will go to the dealer and will update the situation with my HUD

The engineer in the dealership told me that after system restart the HUD continue to project only the big white rectangle.
He tried to focus the HUD and this worked, so it seems there is an issue with the project itself. All other HUD's mechanical parts are working. So I left the car to remove the dash and the engineer to check the cables connectivity of the Head-up Display.
If there is no cable issue, they will order a new projector...
