  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyper Silver Wheels --- Paint Peeling

The Hyundai "southeast" regional service manager has agreed to have my wheels re-painted at no cost to me after looking at a picture sent from the local dealer's iPhone. I am told that "painted" wheels are covered by a 3 year warranty??? I am just outside the three years so I am grateful but also a little fuzzy as to what Hyundai's 5 year, 60k bumper to bumper warranty really means (I should probably start another thread yet my Lexicon stereo is also under the unspoken 3 year warranty). I didn't realize the wheels were painted so now I'm wondering, going forward, if the convenience of using a drive through car wash is over?

The warranty is spelled out on Hyundai website:

Regarding "the convenience of using a drive through car wash," I don't know if they are all bad, but obviously you might want to stop using the one you have been using.

Have not had Genesis wheels peeling yet. But on my Acura the dealer had to replace the center caps twice because of the paint.

Yep, I too had a lot of very small chips on my wheels before i got new rims.

My Genesis is at the dealer as I am writing and one of the things it is in for is the paint peeling really bad on one of the wheels . My dealer service manager said he will look into it with the regional manager, hopefully it will be good news

@Mark_888, thanks for pointing me to the written warranty... good to know. I travel extensively for a living and rarely use the same car-wash but need a good wash on a regular basis before entertaining clients. Maybe a set of non-painted replacement wheels at some point is the answer.

Pealing wheels and bad leather

I have a 2011 Genesis with less than 29K mikes on it. I bought it 10 months ago as certified and added the bumper to bumper wrap around warranty to 100K. My wheels are also starting to peel very badly. I took the car to the dealer, they refuse to acknowledge its due to manufacturers defect. They also refuse to repair any of the other issues I have. I had an absolute exceptional ownership experience with my 2006 Azera Limited. So I was anxious get the Gene. The Azera seemed to be built twice as well as this Gene! Also my detailer won't touch my leather, clean or dress, as he says the Gene is known for the color coming off. He showed me a spot I didn't notice on the passenger seat back where the seatbelt strap is already wearing the color off. The seats are black but appear camel underneath. Repair was also refused by the dealer. After 176k miles the Azera still looked new, the Gene, not so much! Anyone else notice a deficiency in quality and a pronounced backing away by Hyundai supporting their warranties? I have pictures but don't see how to upload them.

...I was using Meguiar's Multi Piece wheel wash. Specifically states it's for anodized or power-coated rims. I think I would've noticed it over time if this was the culprit.

Although I never thought about the automatic car wash. I do use these quite often. The way the paint was peeling off in quarter sized flakes led me to believe it was paint-prep and bad adhesion.

BTW...rims are solild black under the silver. Spotting looked terrible.
Car washes use an acid based cleaner for wheels, so that’s probably the issue, i have a 2015 5.0 and the car is in perfect shape but paint on wheels is fading, it was an off lease car and assuming this car was washed only at car washes.
