  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai came thru - Messages on Premium NAV w/ update to 12.5

My gf hates that I answer the phone while driving with her in the car because she kinda feels like she's listening in on conversations that she shouldn't. I always respond with, "at least you don't see me sneaking phone calls." :) I like that the car will read my text messages to me and allow me to reply by voice. I'm still working on the right commands to get it to insert an emoji. I did it once but forgot what I said.

A little off subject but kinda relevant. Went to Canada recently. Noticed that no one was using their phone while driving.
Also noticed that that there was zero driver distraction incidents around me. Really different to me.

So I got on the web and found out that Canada has a national law that prohibits the use of hand held devices while driving.
$300 fine minimum. Doubled in school and work zones.

I can only wish.....

Many states have that rule. Helps, but does not eliminate the problem. There is also a difference in circumstances too, the only car on a back road versus heavy fast moving traffic with people changing lanes and merging. We do have limited brain power to handle things like that.

About a year ago I was at the kitchen sink and the window was open. I heard a crash on the street a few hundred feet in back of my house. It is two lanes, only a car and a pickup on the opposite direction. The 23 year old girl was texting and drifted right into the F250. No one should die that way. Many do though.

Distracted driving is an epidemic in my area. There is a no texting law, but not really enforced.
Hard to prove if you're allowed to use a phone while driving.
I've always thought that nothing will change until someone famous dies due to someone texting while driving.
The Canadian drivers seem to obey the law. Maybe it's enforced.

WA passed that law, anyone even holding a cell phone is like a 150 fine.

So, does anyone know when the new version of maps will be available? MapNSoft still shows Version 12.5 available with the SD card option which adds the additional $30. I want to download it myself and save the $30 for the SD card.

Any other way to update the maps and software? cheaper?

I have a NEW to me 16 Genesis 3.8 with the Ultimate package.

For the ultimate the download option isn't available. you have to spend the extra to get the usb key.

That's weird because I got a shipping confirmation in everything from mine supposedly it's on it's way now you're worrying me
If I were you I would call them and make sure ur order is in the mail...

I'm not particularly interested in reading text messages while driving, but I might like a nav map update. Is there one available for a 2016 3.8 sedan without the Premium trim?

You can't read the text messages while driving. It will read them to you. If you put it in Park you can read.

I think there is an update for you.

That's weird.... it seems to serve no purpose. The box for my Ultimate came with a USB stick, but it didn't "request" it - the update ran off of just the SD card.

Depends on the 2015 Ultimate model. I needed the USB drive to complete my 13.5 install with the SD card.

My update button was gray onscreen so I had to use the USB drive per instructions.

Here is my old map version before the update

Strange. Mine didn't. Maybe it was because my head unit had been replaced in 2017 by the previous owner or my software had been updated at least once before I bought it. Think my MAP VER. was at least 07 something - it was still old AF though.

The update probably work on most 2015 Ultimate models that have been updated past the original map version. Mine was probably the few remaining that was still running the original map software which does not update without the USB connected hence why the company includes the workaround USB drive for 2015 models.

I am glad it worked since i do love the new features including the text messaging feature. Brings my system up to modern tech level which stepped up my 2015 Genesis luxury game.:)

My 2015 ultimate needed the USB to update to version 12.5 and the update button was grayed out probably because it was the first time being updated. Did not need the USB to update to version 14 recently as the update button was active.

For those who have the latest updates: Has anyone had a problem with: A) the screen going black after a text message; B) unable to change volume or station; C) unable to turn radio off; D) front proximity sensors going off randomly. All these issues went away after shutting off and restarting the car

No, my update seem to be trouble free so far. You may have a low battery issue that is causing random glitches in the modules.

Any idea what is on the USB? Seems like they could offer it for download as well.

I really like the updated navigation system in 13.5. Last night it helped me navigate some unfamiliar streets to get to work when my usual road was blocked due to overnight construction which caused me to find a new route. The navigation system quickly found a new route that was actually accurate.

My old system was not very quick to calculate routes and the maps were old so newer streets did not register so it used to recommend routes that were longer than it should be. However, update 13.5 rectified those issues. Better navigation system than it used to be for sure and well worth the money in my case.
