In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hyundai Genesis drivers are about to get a fresh set of tires, free of charge. Owners of the current-generation Korean luxury sedan—redesigned for the 2015 model year—will be receiving a service bulletin notifying them that Hyundai will replace their current tires with a different brand, due to the possibility of vibration and road noise.

Until now, all versions of the Hyundai Genesis with 18- or 19-inch wheels have been fitted with Hankook Venus S1 Noble 2 tires. The Hankook 18-inch tires will be replaced with a Michelin model, while all 19-inch tires will be replaced with Continental ProContact DX rubber (per service campaign P18).

“Our dealers will replace the current tires with four brand new tires, regardless of whether the customer has experienced issues with the tires or not,” said Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor.

On March 19, Consumer Reports first became aware of the service campaign initiated in the South Korean market—although no such campaign existed in the United States.

When originally contacted at that time, Hyundai Motor America had not announced plans to replace tires for American customers. When we recontacted Hyundai on April 7, it appeared that our persistence had resulted in the service campaign being extended to U.S. customers.

If there is any difference in the performance of the Genesis in our test fleet when shod with different tires, we will let you know.

welp that just makes me want to do a big burnout before they replace them! WEEEEE!!!!! j/k.

to be honest I've never had any issues with the tires that are on there. as long as the new tires are very similar tread wear and heat/speed rating, then i'll trade them out when the hankooks get worn down.

thanks for posting this.

I had a 2004 Nissan 350z that had horrendous issues with abnormal tire wear that resulted in a very loud growl/roar when breaking. It took forever to get anything out of Nissan. I had already replaced my tires with Michelin Pilot Sports by the time they offered any relief. The Michelin's lasted much longer than the stock tires. I forget what they were.

I have not noticed anything yet, but I have 14,500 miles on my Genesis after 10 months and will not complain about a new set of Michelin tires.

Dealer told me the P18 is only for the 19 inch wheels. Hyundai is NOT replacing the 18 inch wheels. Which apparently I have. I miss my Infiniti...

That's not what is being reported;

All 18-inch tires will be replaced with a Michelin tire and all 19-inch tires will be replaced with a Conti tire.

If someone has any hard reference to the 18" wheels and tire replacement, could they post it? This is all rumor as far as the US market goes.

Where did the reference to Michelins on the 18" wheels come from?

I am not losing sleep over this, since the Hankooks are fine for me on the incredibly loud new freeway surfaces in Houston. They are VERY quiet; I have a Mazda MX-5 with the quitest Michelins ever that still sets my teeth on edge with the g-d high-pitched whine from most of the new freeway surfaces. And the Hankook flat-spotting is something I have not seen, I mean felt, at all in Houston weather, so I can keep the Hankooks with no heartburn at all.

But, Michelins would be nice.

Probably because a lot of 2015 owners rarely (if ever) venture from this 2015 forum.
??? The "other" (original) thread is in this same forum!

The stretch of 290 between Houston and Austin is the worst; one of the loudest roads I've ever been on. Not the entire way, but sort of the section in the middle.

Everything is bigger is Texas - including road noise?:)

My (Stn Mtn GA) Dealer was unaware of any Official Notice from Hyundai, and was not impressed by CR articile, stated when they received any Official notice they would notify me. 2015 Genesis 3.8 Untimate

My dealers response to reading the consumer reports article was "just cuz it's on the internet, doesn't mean it's true."

It was seriously all I could to to not punch him in the face, but that wouldn't get me anywhere. I guess its a matter of time before the 18's are replaced. I guess I live with the shaking and be glad the warmer weather is coming so it won't be so pronounced.

Just call Hyundai like I did and they will confirm it. Then you can tell your smart ass dealer how come the customer knows more then they do. Then punch him in the face. :D

Just went on tire rack and for the 18in tires for v6 tire rack list the Michelin primacy mxm4 as o.e for the genesis sedan now. retail is 182.00 each. lets hope this isnt the tire were getting cause reviews are average at best, my choice would be the pilot sport a/s 3 w/y rated as the reviews state handling is much improved, however wear rating is low retail 204.00 each. Personally i like the ride of the hankooks and havent experienced any vibration.

Hankooks will stay on my car unless a safety bulletin comes out. The flatspotting goes away after 5-10 minutes, also has become less pronounced with time, possibly weather.

The Michelins just showed up as OEM for the Genesis very recently on tirerack, so I would bet that they are the 18" solution.

Even though I have no huge problem with the Hankooks (have not driven them in weather lower than around 55F), I am all over the Michelins.

These particular Michelins have outstanding performance in the wet, which is a big deal for Houston.

BTW, I have seen more than one post complaining of lower wear ratings. Wear ratings are not universal and you can't compare a wear rating of say 500 in a performance tire with a 500 wear rating in a touring tire. You technically cannot even compare them exactly across brands. Sad, but true.

Bottom line: the Michelin replacements will last longer than the Hankooks given the same driving conditions.

Finally, I have run more tires than I care to remember and Michelin, in my opinion, are typically overpriced, but I have never had a problem with any Michelin tire from the Touring on the VW years ago, to the Grand Touring on the Volvo years ago, to the High Performance on two generations of Mazda MX-5.

Color me happy...
