  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I got a Genesis today!

I noticed, in your last picture, that the second car has different wheels. What is the story on that? I'm assuming that the different wheels are part of a different package. Do you know if they are the same size or just a different design than the wheels on your car?

One last question...is the front bumper drilled (holes) for mounting of the front license plate? My state doesn't have a front plate requirement and I would hate to think the bumper has pre-drilled holes in it.

Hope you continue to enjoy the car.

The wheels on the silver Genesis are the base 17" wheels. The rest, including the one I got, had the Premium Plus Package which adds 18" wheels.

As far as the front bumper goes, there are 2 holes drilled in it for the license plate mounting bracket (which is color matched to the Genesis). You can always buy a pair of plastic hole covers at any hardware store. You'll need some touchup paint so they blend in, but it's a simple and inexpensive solution.

I have a question too. Well, especially since you have owned a Bimmer before. Most of the magazines and media have been chewing down on BMW's I-Drive feature for years, saying that it is un-friendly and hard to use. Since Genesis also have the similar looking knobs that seems like a straight copy from the bimmer, is it any better, or easier to use? or is it the same, confusing unit that BMWs have? It sure looked the same in its first glance.

Also, Based on seeing a few youtube vids before, I think there is another little thing that Hyundai needs to incorporate on their future cars. The trunk lid opening. I am not big on the trunk lids that has hinges to hold in place that can protrude to the cargo area, damaging the luggeges. My old 99 Grandam had the exact same thing, though it belongs to my dad now. I just wish Hyundai can incorporate the Strut type that my current Grand Prix has that stays away from the cargo area. That's one thing I don't like about Korean cars, surely, Hyundai should use that strut thing at least to their more expensive offerings.(I am not sure what Azera has, but to me, it seems like every Korean cars use that hinge design)

I HATE control knobs. They're a PITA (pain in the ....) on every car I've seen them incorporated on. The best I've found is on new Nissan/Infiniti vehicles because they're up high and in your field of vision. Still, I prefer actual buttons on the dash and a touch screen NAV system (the new Sonata Nav is GREAT). It's one of the reasons, aside from the fact that I didn't want to spend another $4k for a bunch of stuff I didn't really care about or need just to get Nav, that I decided to do without the Tech package. I'm currently researching different portable units....looks like Garmin is the best out there.

I wish I could give some feedback on the Nav system and controller, but none of the Genesis they had on the lot had the Tech package. Take it for what it's worth, but my salesman said he just got back from some training seminar and Hyundai stated that the Tech Package won't be available for at least a month. Hyundai is having some sort of problems with it....I'm not sure if their related to the controller or not.

As for the trunk hinges, they are concealed and therefore cannot damage the luggage. They do eat up a bit of space, but keep in mind, there are many luxury cars that use these type of hinges. The Korean market Genesis has a power closing trunk option that probably wouldn't work with hydraulic hinges since they are much harder to close than the type of hinge used on the Genesis. Hyundai probably felt it wasn't worth the extra cost to changes the hinges on models without the power closing option.

Congratulations.... Looks Great.... I also love the Genesis Badge... is it optional? ...or on the secondary market? if so how much?
The prob. with grabbing one now is self explained... 500. under msrp....
with a slew of 2009s coming... G8, Maxima, etc. might be worth waiting a month or so ... normally when I buy new cars (like my current RX350) figure about 10% off the msrp.
Anyhow, looks great, good luck.

Just a few more tidbits:

I programmed the home link buttons, memory settings for my remote, and paired the bluetooth connection with my LG Shine. All went smoothly.

On a not so positive note, the iPod connectivity SUCKS! I can't get any of our iPod to connect with the audio system (60 GB Video, 16GB Touch, & an old 16GB iPod). In each case I either get a message that reads "no songs" or "connection error". The manual isn't much help, but I did find a disclaimer that says the only supported models are:

-Mini
-Nano
-4G
-5G
-Photo

WTH? Why offer iPod connectivity if it only work on maybe 25% of the iPods out there and none of the new models (except the Nano)? I guess I could just get an Aux cable, but then I won't be able to view the artist/song name on the display like I would with the USB connection.

I personally like the other grill Hyundai consider before they chose the one on it now. In my opinion it gives the car a more genuine feel without the logo it feels like a counterfeit car. The one on it still looks good, but I prefer to have the Hyundai logo on the grill. I would be nice if they could put the logo on the current one as well.

I like the grille with the Hyundai logo on it as well. However, I will reserve judgement until I see the waterfall style in person.

We'll have to hear more about this iPod stuff.. That's going to be a big issue. iPods are just way too popular these days.

Otherwise, I find iDrive (starting with the BMW 750) extremely easy to use. It takes a few hours of getting used to - but that's it. Then again, I've been into computers for most of my life - so maybe this kind of thing just comes natural to me...

Congrats!!!! We are all anxious to hear all the details and of course envious. Please tell us everything...

1 & 2:
The V6 feels every bit as fast as my GS430. It's very smooth and loves to rev (although I haven't really gotten on it too much, I have noticed the Aisin 6-speed auto does like to shift way before redline....I haven't tried the "manual" mode yet). Still, the 6.1 seconds 0-60 time stated by Autoblog seems very believeable IMO. As for the MPG, about 2/3 of the miles I've driven thus far have been highway miles, but keep in mind that most of those miles were driving uphill on I-80 at around 70-75mph. It's a 7000' climb from the Roseville to Donner Summit. From Donner Summit its downhill to Reno, which has an elevation around 4500'. Still, for a new engine on it's first tank of gas, I am impressed.

That's not bad. I commute on mostly flat terrain on the highway at maybe 70 mph, so I wouldn't be surprised if I could manage 27 or a little better.

6.1 or 6.2 seconds is spectacular. I didn't expect that good. On the other hand, I've only driven low end family cars and minivans before, so anything faster than 8 seconds would feel pretty damn quick to me.

3:
The rear seat is very spacious. It's much bigger than the GS430, and a bit bigger than the M35/45 (if you're familiar with that car). It does seem a bit smaller than the G8 in terms of legroom however. You'd probably be able to fit 3 car seats in the back, but it will be tight.

I'm planning on cleaning her up and doing a proper photoshoot within the next few days. I'm hoping I can capture how good the grill looks in person.

I remember reading that the Infiniti M has one of the most spacious cabins in versus the Mercedes E, BMW 5-series, and Lexus GS.

On the other hand, I'll also keep in mind the G8. Like I said earlier, if I do shop I would be looking for an inexpensive large family sedan. I would be cross shopping a G8 V6 with the base trim, no options Genesis V6.

Are you using the Hyundai iPod cable that plugs into both ports on the iPod at the same time?

Congrats on picking your Genesis up. We have yet to see them. Sometime today, I hope. Sometimes being on the east coast sucks. :)

No, I didn't even know about such a cable. The manual is NOT very detailed in this regard. Any idea where I can find one?

I'm assuming you mean a cable that plugs into the main port on the iPod and both the USB & Aux input on the vehicle, correct?

Here are the only pics I could find:

I have gotten a few stares and people who have done a double-take, but no comments thus far. I'm sure I'll get a few tomorrow at work. :)

How do I add the pics?

Congrats!!! Looks nice. Hope you enjoy it.

I'm waiting on EVH so I can check it out. :)

And I decided to go ahead and order a set of the KDM Wing Genesis Logos at http://www.koreanautoimports.com/store/pro...products_id=921

In anticipation of getting the new badges I thought, why not debadge the rear now? Well, as I feared, the badge has prongs as well as adhesive so I now have two holes in my trunk lid. I've covered them up with some sticky rubber tabs I had lying around until the new badges get here. (Note to self: learn to be more patient)

Ahhh, I just love being the Gineau pig. If I decide to upgrade to the 4-piston brakes from the V8 I'll be sure to fill you all in on how that goes. I have concerns if they will clear the spokes of or not. They theoretically should since they're both 18" wheels, but the wheel spoke design is different.

Your link doesn't work for me. It says I don't have permission to access.

Thanks for the vid. I've always used the blow dryer and dental floss technique. The heat from the blow dryer makes the adhesive much easier to remove.
