It's not as buttery smooth, except for the stuff on the dash (I'm sure the premium leather offered only the V8 is better), but it feels fairly stout and more European if that makes any sense. Think of the leather in BMW & MB vehicles and you get the idea.

Okay. So the leather sounds "thick" and maybe a touch hard.. So the V8 leather will likely be softer and maybe closer to that of Lexus quality. Mercedes and BMW do have a very soft leather available. At BMW, it's in an option called "Individual"...

I would say the leather on the V6 is somewhere in between the feel of the super-soft semi-analine leather offered on certain Lexus models and the thick robust feel of the leather on the Pontiac G8. It's not hard IMO, but it's not glove soft either. I hope that gives you some idea.

Thank you.. That's very cool.. I wonder how it compares to the Azera. Hopefully better.. At any cost, it sounds like the premium leather is going to be REALLY nice... THAT's what I'm waiting to see more than anything.

Can anyone confirm that Package 4 is still at least a month away? Dealer on Edmunds forum site advises that his Regional manager told him that there are NO Genesis cars in White or with Package 4 in the country for sale and it would be at least a month before available.

This is most depressing as like so many others - have held out for quite a while for the Genesis to launch and there is simply no easy credible info from Hyundai on the launch. I have a locator search going on from the corporate office in California but it will take a few more days.

How about this. Is it possible & affordable to do an aftermarket Back-up camera with the Genesis screen and to add similar headlights as the Tech package offers. My lease expired yesterday on my M35X and doubt I can wait a month or longer (if info is correct). I can live without Nav but do want the backup camera.

My salesman also stated that the Tech package was delayed several weeks due to problems Hyundai was experiencing. I also have yet to see any white Genesis, either at the dealership, in print reviews, or online. Have you driven the Genesis yet? If you've pretty much decided on it as your next vehicle I would hold out and get the options you want. You should be able to extend your lease, or at the very worst, rent a car for a few weeks. I know waiting sucks, but if you've decided on the Genesis it might be worth the wait.

I know I may be asking this a bit late, but I forget. I think it has been posted here somewhere but... There, the lazyness again. What does the package 4 includes? and what the heck is this tech package? It seems like every features that Hyundai have been advertising so proudly from the beginning are options afterall. Is there anything that comes in as a standard equipment or not? that isn't availiable or an option on any of Hyundai's lower levels like Azera.

Package 4 = Tech Package (I'm not sure why Edmunds calls it Package 4)

The V8 is only $2k more than a similarly equiped V6. That's a hell of a bargain IMO. The starting price is $5k more than the V6, but it includes the Premium and Premium Plus Package feature content as standard equipment.

Genesis 3.8 – Standard Equipment ($33k MSRP including destination):
The Genesis 3.8 sports sedan is available in four packages: Standard, Premium, Premium Plus and Technology. All Genesis 3.8 models come very well equipped, including a 3.8-liter DOHC V6 engine, Aisin six-speed automatic transmission with ShiftronicTM, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with traction control, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and 17-inch alloy wheels with P225/55R17 tires. Only the push button start, and proximity key are the two that is not available on the Azera. That sucks. With the omition of the Korean domastic market version's rear entertainment system, Smart Cruise, and the passenger cooled seat?. I don't really think it is that much of a bargain. I know, I know, it is still far less than the Japanese competor, but I was hoping that they give more features as standard rather than making all of them as part of an expensive option package. Hmmmm.

Just a few random updates/comments:

-The door panels/center armrest could be a bit softer. They look "soft", but only have a small amount of padding underneath the leather. This was one of my main complaints about the interior of my GS430.

-Visibility out the back is pretty limited, much more so than the Azera. I definitely have gotten accustomed to having a review camera and will miss that (darn Hyundai for making the NAV part of a $4k package)

-The audio system is great! I love the sound quality and the clarity. I'm still messing around w/ the EQ to get the best sound, but even when cranked up there is very little distortion.

-I purchased a new Navigon 2100Max portable Nav system. I decided to give Navigon a try in spite of the somewhat average reviews. After fiddling with the settings a bit I am quite happy with it. The mounting bracket could be better, but the graphics and accuracy seem pretty good so far. The mapping is very up to date, at least in my area. I love the 3D View which is similar to the Birds Eye View on Nissan/Infiniti Nav systems, which coincidentally also use Zenrin software.

-My KDM Genesis wing badges should be here by tomorrow and I got the windows tinted on Wednesday (35% all around).....get ready for a few more pics.

-I got my iPod connector cable from my local Hyundai parts department yesterday ($26). Once it's synced up (5-10 seconds) it shows the artist & song name on the radio display and an "H" logo on the iPod. I wish the manual was more detailed in telling me that I needed a special Hyundai cable.....it could have saved me some time and trouble by not having to scour the internet for information.

-Speaking of the manual, the information contained within is lacking detail in places, and is just plain confusing in others. For instance, I've been thinking lately about octane ratings. I know the V8 was designed to run on either Regular or Premium, but will get more performance (HP/TQ) by using Premium. What about the V6? We know it can get approx. 310hp when tuned properly (e.g. Genesis Coupe), but we don't know yet if that is because of a higher compression ratio, more free-flowing exhaust, or if it only gets those numbers by running on Premium Unleaded fuel.

In the brochure, this is what it says about fuel requirements for the 3.8l V6:

"Your new vehicle is designed to use only unleaded fuel having a pump octane number ((R+M)/2) of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher."

What does that mean exactly, I wonder. Will this engine produce more power on Premium? I mean, it makes some sense that if it does indeed make more power on Premium that Hyundai wouldn't advertise the fact. It's already more powerful than most of it's V6 competition and I'm sure they want to keep as much difference in advertised HP/TQ between the V6 and V8 as possible. I guess the only way to know for sure if higher octane fuel has any effect on performance is to put it on a dyno.

If they included most of that stuff as standard equipment, it would kill Azera Limited sales, forcing them to lower the price of the Azera, which would hurt Sonata sales....you see where I'm going with this.

I'm just thankful we aren't paying Korean prices for the Genesis. They are getting ripped off, comparatively speaking!

More pics as promised. The wing badges were a bit of a pain to put on. They had large plastic tabs that had to be shaved off with a Dremmel tool and unless viewed straight on they tend to look crooked (I measured each side to be safe).

The badge certainly elevates the image and appearance (Kudos on a job well done) and you have to wonder how Hyundai missed this one in their rollout.

It is not easy to move MB, Lexus, BMW, etc owners to Hyundai - it took Lexus, Acura and Infiniti a long time to get where they are and just tweaking the badge/name a little would make it easier for those people to ease into a Hyundai while at the same time (and more importantly) elevating Hyundai in the eyes of potential customers.

Where did you find the badges and are you happy with them?

I agree with the last post; the wings make a huge difference on the car!! I wish I could put them on mine when I lease one next month but I am sure they would frown upon it when I go to turn it in in two years...

Question: I thought I remember you saying (in another post) that you were going to get the windows tinted. Have you already done that or do the pics show the regular factory tinting?
