If you've had issues with Continental Procontact TX tires...

@omegaflier - Sound advice and well written.
I agree setting tire pressure at or above manufactures recommended PSI is a personal preference.

IMO "carried away" >= 6 PSI above manufactures OEM recommendation.

Though the typical car owner doesn't do/care, regularly checking and maintaining tire pressure is important for safety, ride quality and tire maintenance. This is quick and easy to do with the instrumentation on the G80 and most modern vehicles today.

We've been having wide temperature swings "in my neck of the woods" this winter (18F -> 70F). I've seen cold tire pressure fluctuate +/-4PSI with these temperature changes.

just had my 5th tire blowout on genesis g90 2017 with 18000 miles.
Great car but afraid to drive it
going back to lexus when lease up

I had tread separation issues with Uniroyal tires in the early 1980s. After 4 failures in 10,000 miles, Uniroyal agreed to refund the average retail price of the tires in my area. I bought Pirelli P77 tires from Tire Rack for about $50 additional for all 4. The difference in the tires was night and day. Never had another problem.

G-594538 - please recognize the poor tire selection that many of us feel occurred by Genesis has nothing to do with the car. Although I despise my ProContacts for their susceptibility to sidewall failure, I too respect Continental for making a fine tire in other models (I think the DSWs are great). I will not put ProContacts on my car, but I also will not despise the car due to that tire problem.

You should not have these problems again with a different tire. First off, if I were you I wouldn't allow a replacement tire to be a ProContact. Next, do the math. Do you really think you'll enjoy the Lexus more considering the price difference over the Genesis? If so - then switch. If not, give it a go with different tires.

I've had Continentals on many high end cars and have spent thousands replacing them. My 018 G90 Ultimate Htrac hydroplanes at the slightest hint of moisture and both fronts have been replaced at 4K miles at no cost due to high spots in hard road balancing tests.

The first month I drove my new 2018 G80 sport I found it difficult to control the car on high speed highways. I was always fighting the steering wheel. Then when I read about the blow outs I decided for my own families safety I would appeal to Genesis and Continental. Neither were sympathetic!
I then noticed a lot of road noise drowning out my music. I decided to bit the bullet and with less that 1500 miles on the tires I purchased four new Michelin tires. I find them to be more stable but just about as much road noise. I now feel I should have keep my low mileage 2015 G80. It was a great riding car!

My wife has the 2018 G80 Sport with the TwinTurbo. She’s had a total of three replacement tires. It all boils down to this they were dealer tires on a new car there’s no warranty. If I would’ve known after the first then the second replacement tire I would replace all the tires with a far better tire company. So If you have a new car and you didn’t buy the new car tire warranty well reachh in your pocketbook and buy yourself a different brand of tire and replace all of them.

I have had issues with the Continental Procontact tires on my Honda Accord. They were not the TX tires. I had 2 tires get side blow outs when hitting potholes. I also got a flat from a nail but any tire can get that. After 42000 miles the one of the original tires were still in good shape.
I have increased the air in the TX tires on my G80 to 38 front and 42 rear and I think the car rides better, handles better, is quieter, and I get slightly better gas mileage. I have read the arguments about safety but I just don't think I am giving up much in that regard if any. ( I have to tell the guys that change my oil/filter to leave them alone or they set them back. And I can tell immediately that they have done so. ) I have 13000 miles on these tires now with no issues however I do avoid pot holes and curbs! My experience tells me that potholes are much worse on low profile tires.

After looking at all of the tire threads and reading reviews, I have seen that the Continental Procontact TX tires have a major issue with the sidewall. I know that I experienced a problem.

Please do what I did. File a complaint with the NHTSA asking that they start an investigation into the sidewall issues with these tires. You can do it via this website - File a Vehicle Safety Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

You should also voice your concern to Genesis Customer Support. They need to stop using this garbage tire.
I am having the same issues with my pro contact tires on my Mercedes. One bubble popped up on the right front sidewalk and then I had a blowout on the front left. There are only 15k miles on them and they still have lots of tread. What the heck?!

I'm running 36/40 for the past few days instead of recommended 34/38. Didn't notice much of a difference in ride quality, especially with the recent temperature drop in the North East. It gets to 37-38/42-43 while driving. I've also noticed that rear wheels raise psi 1-2 points more than fronts while driving (1-2 psi front, 2-3 psi rear).

I am not a scientist or tire pro, but I feel hesitant to break the ratio between front and rear pressure recommended by Genesis. There should be a reason why they recommend to have 4 psi difference on staggered set-ups.
Omegafilter is on target with what he says. The tire pressures from the factory are to assure that there is sufficient air pressure in the tires to meet the load on the tire by the car (more pressure, higher load rating). Once they know their minimum desire, they may also tweak for comfort/tuning. The resulting bias is simply the outfall of their suspension setup and tuning.

As a side note, I think it's absolutely stupid they run different sizes front and rear.

Yes, generally speaking you should keep the same bias front to rear as recommended.

The exception to that is if you wish to tweak the handling of the car. If you drive aggressively and note that the rear end steps out too readily, either decrease the front pressure a little or increase the rear pressure a little. The reverse is also true - in a high speed sweeper as you increase the g-loading, if the front scrubs out first (understeer), either put a little more in the front or let a little out of the back.

When I autocrossed and road raced for years and years, with stock suspension setups where you cannot adjust weight transfer - tire pressure bias/adjustments was the key to balancing the car.

Switched out of the Contis @ 10,000 miles ago to Indy Firehawk 500 on my 5.0. Couldn't be happier. Fabulous price, no more sidewall issues or curb rash. Car is tighter, more responsive on handlng. I'm running them at 36/38. Their quieter and just give that confident vibe instigating a lot of 'play time.'

I almost went with the same tires but I was told of two concerns later in life (second 1/2 of life) - noise increase and wet weather (per a friend in the business). I have Toyo's all around now and am happy. With the Indy tires, however you can be our barometer! Please keep us posted down the road if you have any issues. The pricing for the Indy tires is very enticing.

I just had a blowout of the sidewall on a 2019 Golf Alltrack with 15K miles. Can’t wait to get ride of these tires

I got my G80 5.0 Ultimate two years ago, came with fresh NEW tires, had been used by the dealership owner, it was not a demo..... In the past two years I have put about 5,000 miles on the car and see cracks on the sidewalls of the front tires, one of which is new too me after a blowout. Worthless tires JUST CRAP.....

My Conti's have hydroplaned drastically on me twice. Also had them on an Audi S8 and had 2 sidewall failures.

I have had at least 7 myself. Thank goodness I purchased the tire protection warranty. All have been replaced over the years and I am at 60k miles now. Pressure and tire maint to specs. Just a bad combination. Not sure if it is the wheels or the tires.

I've had 2 sets of Firestone 500's without issue. Recently, I decided to go to more of a high-performance street tire and tried Vredestein because of all the great European reviews and Tire Rack tested them above Michelin/Goodrich, etc. The front tires began "chunking" or shreding on the outer treads. After no satisfaction with the online Tire Rack rep, I submitted some nasty site reviews and sent an email to the importer. A heated phone call and my telling them I'd escalate it to state AG levels resulted in a 100% rebate. I'm about to try the Conti DSW-06 tires. I feel Michelin and Goodrich play off their names for an extra $2-300 and I detest paying for brand. People pay $120 for Nike sneakers and think they can run or walk better? Women by Coach pocketbooks for what reason $200 versus a $50 leather bag from Brazil does the same thing.

Yea, I had sidewall issues with the Conti's as well. 5 years later and a different product line with great reviews; and, $300 less than Michilen .... and I'll try them.
