  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If you've owned both generations - is the stereo system in the 2015 much worse?

Is the stereo system in your second generation Genesis Sedan worse than the first?

2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I'm hearing a LOT of complaints about the stereo system in the second generation 2015 Genesis Sedan. Enough so that I want to create a little survey and look over it a year from now to see where it's at.

If you owned a first generation Genesis Sedan with the same level stereo system you have in your second generation Genesis sedan - please vote...

Thank you!

I've had the 17 speaker Lexicon in 2012 and 2015. Soundwise the 2G system sound is not quite as full as the first generation. However, based on personal experience and reading his forum, 2G doesn't have as many glitches/gremins as the first generation sound system.

I may be on an island here but I prefer the 2G system. I went from a 2012 RSPEC to a 2015 5.0 Ultimate. Both had the 17 speaker Lexicon.

I have never had the GEN1 but the GEN2 stereo to me is top shelf. Specially after when I turned off the Surround Sound.

I had the 17 speaker in my 2012 4.6, but have teh 14 speaker Lexicon in my 2015 Signature. There is definitely a difference between the two systems, but in addition, the 2nd Gen system lacks punch and seems a bit more "tinny" and bright than the 1st gen system. Aside from that, the biggest difference, that I notice between the 17 and 14 speaker systems is the immersiveness that the 17 speaker system had that the 14 lacks.. which is to be expected with 3 more speaks and a better surround processor. BOY OH BOY do I miss the 17 speaker system not to mention the DVD Audio capabilities that came with it. I have high end audio in my home, so I do feel I have the ear to discern the differences (not for arguments sake, but for personal opinions)

Yes, it does sound better with the surround turned off.. at least with the 14 speaker system which I have. I did prefer with surround on, when I had the 17 speaker Lexi system in my 2012.

Gen 1a >> Gen 1b > Gen 2. The difference between the original 2009 Tech system and the 2012 Tech is greater than the 2012 Tech to 2015 Ultimate.

If you are comparing 2009/2010 to 2015, then the 2015 is MUCH worse.
If you are comparing 2012 to 2015, then the 2015 is not quite as good.

The changes they made to pre-amp and amp in 2012 were the "great dumbing down" of the what was a masterpiece of automotive audio perfection.

That was done to address the stability and reliability issues with the 2009 and 2010 head units and the "silent amp bug."

I prefer the 2009 unit, bugs and all.

14 speaker 2012 and 14 speaker 2015. The 2015 with surround is not quite as good as the 2012, but the 2015 system is better in general with "surround" off. Lower midrange is better, and the system can go just a little louder while remaining clean. That being said, now that I think about it, the rears were too loud for my tall frame and made the system significantly worse until I adjusted the front to back balance.

So while everyone has slightly different ears and the 2015 could just be flat out worse for you, I strongly urge you to turn off surround and adjust the rears down 1 or 2 and give it another try.

Maybe that only helps tall people but I'd at least try it!

That's is exactly how I have mine set up too Analog. I am in total agreement with you. This system in awesome.
