If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm getting EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT pricing, V6 or V8?

My aunt, who is working for Hyundai Corp USA, just emailed me the pricing she gets on the genesis. I couldn't and shouldn't really disclose the pricing, I don't want them to stop giving out price like this for their employee because of me or something. Just put it this way, the price for a Tech V8 made my jaw dropped. I'm going to the dealer to test out both v6 and v8 this coming Friday. My question: is the v8's suspension really that bad for rear passengers like people on this board is saying? The price different for the two model is only 15-1600 bucks and I'm getting way more on the V8. Slip differential, better brakes, larger roll bars, chrome molding, illuminating door sills, ultra premium leather seats, trunk speakers cover/liner, and I don't care for partial wood steering wheel. I have been looking at the genesis for so long now and this employee pricing is just icing on the cake. I have been browsing this board pretty much since day one but only decided to join because I'm on the verge of picking one up.

Well, simply put, the V8 is a no brainer - DO IT! I personally believe that the suspension issue is either a matter of personal preference, or one of very specific road conditions combining to be unpleasant. I've logged over 4700 miles on my Gen on all types of roads, and have yet to have any indication of a rough ride. . . ever.

I would also very seriously consider the Tech package. It is what takes this vehicle from a very good car to a luxury automobile, or at least a VERY near luxury vehicle!

I love the 85 extra ponies with only 1/2 mpg reduction. I commute 50 miles total a day to work and back. 90% highway so it shouldn't be too bad on mileage. Tech package only adds $2958.40, to be exact, to the V8 according to the employee pricing sheet. This really made it a no brainer to add the Tech

Wow, I actually did the calculation on the different pricing on the tech v6 and tech v8 ( instead of estimating) just now. It is only $1245.28 different between the two according to the employee pricing list. WHO THE HECK IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD GET THE V6 THEN? with this kind of price different of course

You gotta have a v8!

Don't get too caught up in what others are saying about the suspension. Everyone has their own opinion. Test drive it and see for yourself. Drive it on different road surfaces. Have a passenger ride along, or have the sales person drive while you sit in back and evaluate the rid. Then decide if YOU like it or not.

I drove both, more than once before buying. For me I would have been happy with the performance of the V6 but the V8 has so much more to offer for so little price differential that it was a no brainer. You may see it differently. In the end, buy what you will be happy with! ;)

Keep in mind that the V8 has as standard equipment a lot of things that are optional on the V6, which is probably why the price difference is not that much. What is the difference between the V6 Tech and V8 Tech?

If you put a premium on handling, the V6
If you put a premium on power, the V8

Honestly, all I want is a good amount of power and luxury ride for daily commute. I don't think I would look into a full size 4 drs sedan for its handling. I already have a weekend turbo 2 seaters toy car with great handling to fulfill my need of speed.

V6 has plenty of power. Unless you are carrying a lot of passengers all the time, I can't see the need for a V8 that uses more gas (even if it just a little more). But pay close attention to the "luxury ride" during the test drive, and you might want to check the tire pressure of the test vehicle to make sure the ride is representative of real world conditions.

Thanks. Umm I wonder if the dealer will be mad once they found out that I wont be buying the Genesis directly from them. I'll be doing a lot of comparison between the v6 and v8. I might be even check on the tire pressure like you suggested. What tire pressure the v8 and v6 suppose to be at? Or should I just go with what the tire states?

Never go with what the tire states. That's a max PSI for that tire. Always use the recommended PSI on the door jam sticker. I had overinflated tires due to my own experimentation (testing mpg changes), and the ride is significantly different with even a couple of lbs difference in the tires.

I dropped it back down to the recommended tire PSI and the ride is beautiful IMO. Oh, I have a 4.6 loaded with every package.

What I was concerned about is if the dealer has lowered the tire pressure below the recommended psi to make the car appear to ride better. Or the tires could be over-inflated one car and not the other. This might affect your evaluation of V6 vs. V8.

It may tricky for you to measure the psi on a dealer's car you are taking for a test drive. The other problem is figuring out whether you are actually measuring cold tire pressure, or whether the psi is elevated because the car has been driven recently, or if the ambient temp is significantly lower or higher than 70 F. The recommended 33 psi should be measured at about 70 F when the car has not been driven for at least 3 hours (but it is sometimes hard to know that).

I think you will find that nothing on the V8 is an option on the V6. The only 'option' on the V8 is the tech package. Everything else is unique to the V8. The tech package is identical on both cars.

The Lexicon 14-speaker surround sound audio system w/ in-dash 6-disc CD changer is standard on the V8 and is part of the optional Premium Package (or Premium Package Plus). Of course, if you get the Tech Package on either car, the audio system is a Lexicon 17-speaker discrete 7.1 premium surround sound audio system with in-dash 6-disc DVD changer.

There are many other examples, but I am too lazy to document them. But what I meant is that many of the items in the optinal Premium Package or Premium Package Plus for the V6 are standard on the V8.

How lucky for you, getting employee pricing on the Genesis! Sign me up for the V8 if I had a chance at such a deal. Good luck with whatever engine you go with! :)

I am quite lucky indeed:D. I was not planning on buying a replacement for my very old daily driver so soon. The price was just too good to pass up. I have a family member that needs an old car to drive around with. It is a good time for me to pass my old car and pick up a great looking Genesis at the same time. I was going to wait for the Genesis to be about a year old and buy used General Manager's cars that has about 10k or so miles on them for about 50% off msrp of a new car through employee pricing. My aunt however just informed me about they no longer give that to employee. Used cars returned from GMs are going directly to the auction. Luckily a huge discount off new Genesis is actually a better deal since I get to own a brand new car and own one 6 months sooner.

if the pricing is really that great then I say absolutely go for the V8. Test it yourself and if you are worried about the ride in back have someone come along and sit back there. I never take reviews that I read or hear as my sole decision making tool, always try things out for yourself

How right you are 300GSrich...can't tell you how many movies I hated that got rave reviews (and vice versa).

Yes the price I'm getting put the lowest price listed on this board to shame ;), for the same package . I'm glad Hyundai is doing this for their employees. If this is the true cost price to make their cars, man they are not doing too bad in profit.
