If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

intermittent starting issues

I am having and have had the same issue that the OP described with my 2013 3.8 Sedan. Every time I take the car in on extended warranty, they cant reproduce the issue, of course. I have another year left on the warranty but they literally give me the same run around at 3 different dealers in a couple hour radius. Start button, brake switch, and sensors have either been tested or replaced. Any ideas so I don't have to get rid of this amazing car?

Take a video of the problem and show it to the service advisor. If they're reasonable, they'll believe what they see even without reproducing it.

Yes, Hyundai Dealerships in San Diego are jerks, paid to replace Engine Control Module, then emissions air filter was replaced by a better non-dealership and I cleaned canister and one purge valve my self, Google it?
Anyone experience fuel issues? It was not easy to replace the emissions, it's under the trunk, google it? You will need a special fitting for the canister clamp. I broke mine and sealed with silicone and moved on. They want to replace everything at the dealership. I think the gas pump is intermittent. They would not confirm or deny if the pump was working correctly so they replaced the ECM for grounding issues. I think they were just looking for profit. Why not confirm the gas pump is good?. The maintenance schedule says every 30k to do a visual inspection or something. I have 129k on her. Their indicating lifetime gas pump in the gas tank according to services? It runs for say 9 days to 30 days. Sometimes I will wait only an hour, other times overnight. Crazy. They are not qualified and lie. I think I'm selling it

Will not start?. Turns over? Has anyone replaced the gas pump by pulling the gas tank? What else can I replace on this car? What other electrical can I consider? I have a new ECM ?

I had a similar issue. The car would just not start and everything would go dark. The Ground for the battery was attached to a painted surface. I cleaned the paint off and so far no more issues.

Any updates? Im having the same issues with mine. As of now its in the shop and they cant find anything wrong with it.

Use me as a resource. I went through all
Of this already. Tell them to replace the starter. Problem solved. Most dealers are terrible at diagnosis and Hyundai Corp tech is only slightly better.

I have a 2009 Genny V6 sedan with about 82K. Owned since 2012. Love the car.

A few months ago the problem began and I can't figure out why or what is causing it. I did a search but didn't find anything related to my issue. Maybe I missed something during the search. any help would be appreciated.

I hope to describe the issue effective:
The car sometimes doesn't start when pushing the "start/stop" button. All the dashboard lights will light up and the steering wheel will move into 'driving' position but the engine wont turn over...nothing at all. It's like the brake pedal isn't pushed in. push the button again and everything turns off. Push a third time and then the engine may start. (sometimes not - repeat procedure). Push the brake harder, hold the start/stop button longer. All of these do not seem to affect the issue.

As the few weeks go by, the problem began to be more common. and recently it is just about every time I try to start the car. The car battery was replaced about a year ago. I've changed the battery in the remote keys, tried both sets of keys, and even installed the key fob in the dash-holder before starting. The same intermittent starting issue would happen no matter what I try differently.

I wonder if a button on the brake pedal (to tell the car the brake has been engaged) is not making good contact. It appears the remote is talking to the car but the starter or brake pedal is not communicating as it should. Or is there something else I'm missing?

Has anyone had experienced the same/similar situation?

Thanks.

Most likely starter motor is bad. Similar thing happened to me with newer Genesis with less miles.
Push button, nothing. Wait a minute, then push again, it would start. It happened a few times, then eventually didn't start at all.

Same Issue here, Genesis Sedan 2016 3.8

Replaced the battery, checked cables, OBDII scan is showing multiple errors including fuel control module, and ECU connection malfunction, I replaced the fuel control module, and still showing all sort of random issues on the dash.

After checking the starter relay in the fuse box I can definitely see that it is clicking upon pushing the button.

Planning to replace the starter and see what happens.

Hi there I have a 2017 genesis g80 and does Want to star. I’m getting this code :
B158100 ignition switch signal error BCM
Do you have any idea what this means or how to resolve the issue?
Thanks

I went through all of this. Please listen to the guys that are telling you to check/replace the starter. I went to two different Hyundai dealerships that did nothing. I'm also an automation technician and the truth is that it's really difficult to fix the problem if they can't replicate it.

NJTom, whatever became of your intermittent starting issues? How did it get resolved?
I am having the same issue on 2015 3.8 Genesis ultimate AWD.
thanks
I bought a CPO 2019 G70 with 8400 miles less than two months ago. I had had it exactly a week the first time it wouldn’t start. On the 10th time after much panic it started. It was ok for a week and then it happened again and continued every few days. The brake pedal would not depress. The only was to start it was by using the remote start on the app. Sometimes it is the first time it is started for the day and other times it is the second time after starting fine the first time. There was no record on the Carmax of service being done for this issue.

I have had it into the dealership twice. Of course they could not replicate the issue. The first time they reset both keyfob, one of which was brand new. I didn’t have any issues for about 2 weeks and then it started again. It would only start with the remote app start after trying with the on button numerous times. The second time, the dealership reset key fobs again and replaced the new batteries in both key fobs. They told me to video the dashboard the next time it happens.
I called Genesis customer care three times. The last time, they admitted they were not going to intercede for me. Someone from the corporate office called after that to say they were going to be in touch with the dealer after I took the car in. I never heard anything.

I told the service mgr and also Genesis customer care about comments on the forum and this is a fairly common issue. They both said they don’t pay attention to forum discussions.

I really like the G70 but don’t trust it. I did purchase the CPO wrap policy for 10 yrs/100K miles. I’m thinking this CSR is a lemon and I should cut my losses.

Did anyone ever get their failure to start issue on their G70 fixed?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Wrong subforum. You're in the 2009-2014 forums. You may have better luck in the G70 section.

Neutral start worked for me. Wondering if it has to do with being parked on a slope? When parked in the garage it always starts but in our drive or on the street we have intermittent problems.

Have you tried push starting your vehicle with the actual key fob not your finger???

2015 Gen, 3.8, original owner: Had issues a couple years ago with it not starting at all, no click no vroom vroom 😐. Got a new battery worked for a couple months and problem returned. The dlr replaced the "block" that connects to the positive post on the battery. No problem for over 2 years until now.
NOW the issue is VERY strange, normal start routine, sit in car, press the brake push the button and it should start! What I get is crank once stop, crank a couple revolutions stop, crank stop, crank stop! The crank stop continues if I let go of the button and/or the brake!
So totally weird. It eventually starts in that sequence OR I hit the button 3-9 times and it turns off. Wait a minute (slow my breathing and heart rate) try again and works 2 out of 3 times. I will be taking to the dealer soon. Glad I got the ext-warranty. BTW, I still love my Genny.

I have a starting problem with my 2013 Hyundai genesis sedan sometimes I can go on and it starts no problem. Sometimes I go in push the button it’ll turn over cranking cranking, cranking, crank and eventually start. I’ve had it in for a crankshaft sensor. It worked a little while, but it still went back to the same old thing every once in a while cranking turning over I mean, but not starting for eight a minute, then finally start And then it’ll start OK for a while. They want to take the engine apart that’s $1800 out my pocket instead of calling the one 800 hotline number that they can call. Give them the symptoms what’s going on to see if they have a better answer for it .

I'm having the same issue with intermittent starting. I have taken it to the dealership but it always starts and they say it's hard to fix something that's not broken. I may try to replace the Stop Light Switch to see what happens.

I'm open to suggestion if anyone has recommendations.

The dealer had my car for about 2 weeks and narrowed down to be the starter. Since being fixed over 3 years ago, it has started every time with no hesitation.

NJTom, I appreciate the information! I will take it under consideration as an action to pursue. Thank you!
