If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Tried searching, couldn't find any threads that mentioned this so sorry if a repeat.

I have a new 2014 r-spec that is acting a bit flaky with my iPhone. (Owned about 30 days)

First, I always plug my iPhone 5s in via the apple lightning usb cable due to much superior music quality vs Bluetooth streaming.

The issue I am encountering is that the phone often stops responding to iPod controls whether through the DIS knob or steering buttons after a Bluetooth phone call has disconnected.

The scenario that reliably reproduces this is when I am on a phone call while walking to my garage after work then the phone call automatically routes through the car Bluetooth once I hit the start button. After the call ends, certain music playback/iPod commands stop working. However this issue has creeped up a few other random times aside from this scenario as well.

I can browse and select tracks and playlists, still see track info and album art on the dash display, however play/pause and track forward/backward commands stop working whether through the DIS knob or steering wheel. I can control directly through the phone and playback will work then but obviously that is not a safe option while driving.

The only solution I have found is a hard two-button reset of the phone. None of a different iPhone cable, restore, and ios 8 upgrade fixed this behavior.

Anyone else encounter this? While I have found something of a workaround, it is super annoying since I take a lot of business calls in the car during my commute but if not on the phone always want music of my choice playing.

On a separate note I also have an iPod Classic (160gb) with the hyundai iPod cable that is only ever seen as an aux device, so no on-screen iPod controls -- or in other words basically useless ...

Thanks for any feedback

Not sure about the iPhone, but I've found the only way to use my iPod Classic is to use a standard iPod-USB cable, not the special Hyundai cable. Using the stock cable allows me to control the iPod from the head unit (2013 V6 Tech), but I still have to deal with the annoyance of having to re-activate shuffle every time I start the car.

FYI I'm not sure at what exact point this original unresponsiveness issue went away but it was after a iPhone software update. That issue is no longer happening.

A (not so) new one however. This has been happening for months. I wish I could pinpoint when it started.

Here is the current situation -

2014 R-Spec
iPhone 6S with newest iOS
Apple OEM Lightning to USB cable
Using the standard iOS Music app

My issue is I effectively cannot play/pause music at all. Not through the phone interface or through the DIS knob.

When I pause, it only holds for a second or two, and then automatically resumes playback.

Furthermore, incoming or outgoing bluetooth calls should pause music playback. But it doesn't. The music plays over the speakers and then also through to the phone audio. Awful!

So basically I have to resort to Bluetooth Audio only which is of much lower quality and has the issue of having to check the volume on the phone as well as the car stereo.

I've brought it in to the dealer and they say it's the first they have seen of it but were able to replicate the problem on another 2014 R-Spec on the lot so it "must be an Apple compatibility issue, sorry". I've asked them to call Hyundai tech support and see if there is a service notice/bulletin or something because I am certainly not the only owner having this problem.

Anyone else encountered this or something similar? It seems somewhat akin to the issue of the standard Music app overriding 3rd-party music/audio apps but even worse.

thanks for any thoughts/feedback.

Why not just pick up a $10 USB drive and put your music onto that?

Does the Genesis support 500GB+ USB sticks? I'm assuming not, although if so I suppose that would be a suboptimal option to consider (if I could live with giving up #3 below).

A few reasons I am dead set on sticking with using my iPhone for music will still live with the current issue.

1) The integration of iTunes Match and Apple Music services into the standard iPhone Music app means I can have high-quality streaming access to my full music library of over 500GB so long as there is a 4G/LTE cell signal (and to the full iTunes streaming library and personalized playlists and radio stations that are above and beyond the music I already own)

2) I can change the music stored locally on my phone on the go due to same cloud integration (just browse my music library and select the artist/album/track I want and tell the phone to download it). No need for plugging/unplugging, syncing, or being anywhere near my computer.

3) Being a total music nerd, I have used a service called last.fm to track most of my digital music listening for well over a decade (using an app that runs in the background on my phone, computers, and sonos home audio system). Having that kind of rich data about my own music listening habits over time is very addictive and has helped me rediscover old gems years later.

So that's why I'd rather find a fix for this irksome bug. One would expect a near $50K car (sticker) less than 2 years old to reliably support one of the most widely used smartphone brands. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation...

But thanks for the suggestion. :)
