  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

is the AC Weak in the 2012 Genesis?

I discussed this topic with a Auto AC expert. He suspected the temp sensor
on the rt side of the dash is super heating if left exposed and may overload the system on the start up pressurization. Resulting in freezing the return line reducing overall initial cooling. I experimented with covering the glass aperture on the right dash with a folded map. The car sat out in 100+ temp for 6-7 hrs. I can report my cooling time has been reduced by 50%. I mean time to cold air from the vent. I can say the AC in my 2010 is now holding its own in this bruising heat wave.

Can you post a smartphone picture of the temperature sensor? I would appreciate it a lot:)

Its on the front of the dash at the windshield, 8-10 inches from the right side. small 1" circle with a glass aperture. Be sure and cover it only when its parked directly in the sun. Pull off the cover once your underway. Most windshield sun deflectors don't cover it.

I noticed yesterday that mine wasn't really feeling that cold. I hit the AC button and turned up the fan and while it was cool air it wasn't really cold air. After a bit I hit the automatic button and it got colder and the fan speed increased. It still wasn't "run you out of the seat" cold like my wife's Cherokee Sport but it was okay. Then, at a stop light I hit the climate button and saw the temp. reading outside was 109 F. Then I figured the AC was doing alright.

103 ° here yesterday and worse today. AC was fine, once it got going for 5 minutes. You should either close rear center vents, or at least be sure they are blowing cold air, not hot.

My experience with the AQS system on/off is that it makes zero difference to the performance of the A/C. The a/c is ok, but weak by today's standards. 95degree weather here and on the dark tinted Genesis I have to keep it at 70for the car to keep the cabin cool and it takes a while to get there. My wife's G35, untinted, 85K miles and anything lower than 76 and it freezes you to death. Oh well, not a show stopper issue.

Got to hit that "best value on the market" price point some how. Other cost cutting areas are easy to find too.

I went with LLumar's Air Blue 80 tint and it seems to do really well in the FL sun. I wanted maximum visibility for night driving, zero electronics interference and a decent cooling property....this tint gives the best all around performance IMO.

78% Visible Light Transmission
43% Solar Energy Rejection
99% UV Rejection
13% Glare Reduction
9% Visible Light Reflection

The AC seems to cool fairly quick, I keep a shade on the front windshield when it's parked which also helps a lot. Today was 97 out, without humidity factored in and after the car was parked for a few hours I got back in and it cooled off within 5 minutes which seems reasonable to me.

RE 2010 Ginny and AC issues: I also have complained to the Hyundai maintenance team about slow cooling. I had a 96 Volvo 850 Turbo that I gave to my grandchildren that cooled better than my Genesis. The fan runs on high way too long trying to cool the cabin. The temp is just not cool enough. Hyundai tested it and said it was to spec. But, I too think it is an engineering flaw. That is the only thing I don't like about my 2010. p.s. It's Sapphire Blue

Live in New Orleans, hot and humid.
Happy with the car (2011 4.6), but the ride quality(very bad roads down here) and A/C are big negatives.
Wife keeps complaining about the A/C. It is worse than my traded in 04 Pathfinder.
When it is cooler than 85F it works fine, but warmer temperatures are very though on the A/C especially city driving.

I would love this car much more if I was living up north I guess.
Still too much car for the money.

Oh man it's hot in LA and I have tried everything to get the Genesis to cool down. This is a big problem. I think the fact is has so much window area vs, ny TL could be part of the issue.

Thanks, but I am not an idiot. I have lived in hot climates my entire life. This has nothing to do with recirculating hot air initially.

You may not be an Idiot but you are acting like one, Someone gives you a suggestion and if you aleady know the answer you don't have to belittle them for trying to help.
I have a 2009 and the software that runs the AC is not the greatest. I live in Ohio. When it kicks on it cools pretty good but not consistant. The car gets warm again and then the AC kicks on again in high speed. The dealership was no help. This is not really an answer to your question but there is issues with what I have seen in the AC controller.

UPDATE: Took my genny to service, and my A/C compressor was bad. It was replaced under warranty, and now I can say Genesis has good A/C.
I recommend to get your A/C checked if you are not happy with its performance.

The last two weeks has been hot as hell.. +100F daily.
My Genesis takes less than 1 minute to make the car comfortable and around 2 minutes to make it flat out cold.

Yes A/C is weak!

My 09 Genesis 4.6 provided excellent cooling despite the 100+ temps in Vegas. However, my 11 Equus is completely incapable of cooling down the car. So much so that despite 5 weeks during 3 separate visits with repeated visits from regional support tam, they could not get it to cool down to a reasonable temp. Set at 74 the fan speed remains on the highest fan speed indefinitely. When compared to another Equus, the air temp from the vents was 7 degrees warmer. I have been told it is within the specs for an Equus and that the fact that the car is black is an issue. Both statements are unacceptable excuses. If it is to spec, then hyundai has a bigger issue selling a $66K car that can't cool in the SW. This Equus is my 6th black vehicle while living in Vegas and NONE have had issues. In fact I just purchased a new Jeep Wrangler with climate control that can get the interior to 74 within 7 minutes and that's during 110 degree temps. The story hasn't ended yet as I am in the process of Hyundai replacing my car which has only 3600 miles. Hopefully Hyundai will follow through with what wil be the ultimate customer service accommodation.

7 degree variance doesn't sound like a reasonable spec. for an AC. I don't believe that it is an engineering problem. We have had 108, 110 deg. in the last few weeks. I don't have any problem with my Genny cooling. I frankly don't believe Hyundia cut any corners on this vehicle. Maybe a dealer problem.

I will agree with the fact that the system is weak.
I had to install tint to all windows to keep it somewhat cooler.
I have had many cars through out my 51 years and the Gen is the weakest.
Even the fan speed is weak.

My BMW with no tinted windows will freeze u with in 5 mins, the genny takes a while to get cold, even with my tinted windows. I thought about adding tint to the front windshield but don't want to have to deal with that during inspection times
