  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is the Hyundai Genesis a midsize or fullsize car?

If I remember correctly, when Hyundai first released this car in America, they said it was 7-Series sized but 3-Series priced...

More specifically, having the interior room of a 7 Series (which is the same thing Acura says about the RLX).

5 Series - 117"/193"

Genesis - 118.5"/196.5"

7 Series (SWB) - 121"/200"

I'm keeping my car for a while, but I would consider a 3rd Generation Genesis if it was a smaller more agile driver focused machine.

Better option would be to go for Hyundai upcoming compact RWD sport sedan or for something a little bigger (but smaller than the Genesis), Kia's production version of the GT concept.

I have always thought that was the biggest mistake Hyundai made in their marketing and brand positioning.

I had a 7 Series when Hyundai announced the Genesis. I thought that comparison was a joke at the time. The 7 Series enthusiast community pretty much laughed at Hyundai. Hyundai would have been so much wiser if they had positioned the Genesis against the E/5/A6 up front. The Genesis is massively smaller than my 7, but I made the deliberate choice to downsize.

The Acura is a joke too. It is no where close to a 7 Series. Massive marketing and brand mistake.

I also had a 7-Series at the time - and thought it was a silly comparison...

Hyundai only positioned the Genesis to the 7 w/ regard to passenger room as they already had the Equus.

The Genesis was always seen as a competitor to the 5 Series, but unfortunately, that reference to the 7 Series created confusion.
