If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got an Email from a Journalist I know, he recently was at an event with Ricky Lau

here's what he says about the 2015 R Spec Sedan

( barring they don't go the turbo route - which they still could )

5.5 liter V8 from the Equus used in Korea....... 480hp ( or close to it )

10 speed transmission WITH paddle shifters on the steering wheel

optional AWD

it's coming :)

Before they even bother with more power, paddle shifters and all wheel.. Maybe they could make the thing kick some asss in the handling department as to truly compare with the Germans.., and impress the journalists etc.. What's the freakin' problem ??

Do you actually have info the suspension/handling will not be improved?

Please direct me to where it says (source) that there's no handling improvement!!!

The next Genesis will be an entirely new platform
They are aware of the numb - non communicative steering of the current car
they also know that customers want paddle shifters

They already have the 5.5 liter v8 used in the Equus in Korea
and All wheel drive will more than likely be an option
don't rule out a dual clutch transmission either - although that wasn't mentioned to me specifically.

Considering the next R Spec will be at least 470 - 480hp stock
Hyundai know they have to develop a solid chassis

Why do you think they brought engineers and designers on board from BMW and Audi - as well as Lexus to help develop future cars.
They know exactly what they are doing.

A former BMW designer is working on the Genesis
A former Audi Designer is working on the K9

Ricky Lau came from Lexus did he not ?

15 years from now - no one will be laughing at Hyundai
People laughed at Nissan and Toyota too

now we have the GTR and the LFA
No one is laughing at Nissan and Toyota now

And in 15 years - Hyundai WILL have a car competing with the BMW ///M division - Audi's RS group - and Mercedes AMG cars

Wait and see

Providing Hyundai will follow the same trend as the past 5 years, I doubt very much it'd take them 15 years to get there. It will be a lot less that that. Car industry is very dynamic and changes happen very fast.

Based on Dragons' first statement, coming from his source.. it seemed all the focus was on powertrain.. ( and now that we see he mentioned later, the platform will probably come along as well ) Personally.. I would think before even mentioning engine or transmission or paddles .. the handling would be the focus..

Reduce the weight and improve the handling. Reducing the weight will have a dramatic impact on performance numbers, and handling perception.

What will the additional power do if it isn't backed with weight reduction, nor chassis and suspension refinement of a sporting nature? The answer is nothing.

If the new Genesis R-Spec has 480 hp, bluetooth audio streaming, and rear seats that fold down I'll trade my current R-Spec in on one.

Some interesting news - from Motor Authority .com

Dodge / chrysler may entertain putting a supercharger on the new SRT8 next year - to compete against the Camaro / Shelby ford etc......

If they do - it would probably be an added after deal option made available through the dealership I would think - with horsepower rating upwards of 540 - 570 hp i would expect a blown SRT8 to cost at least 60K

But Hyundai can do the same with the 5.5 liter ;)

my understanding is the next generation CTS- V will have an untouched ZR1 engine with 634hp ( give or take ) instead of the de tuned version they currently use now

So that means the next Vette will have to beat the 650hp viper
and it will - no doubt

Which leaves Jaguar with their supercharged 5.0 - which can be tuned up to 750hp judging from the salt flat speed numbers it threw down when they were still in the engine testing phase.

The current 4.4 liter tt v8 in the new M5 can handle 700+ maybe as much as 750hp before it becomes a tire spinning hand grenade

The horsepower wars are alive and well :)

You know what's sad.... who can afford to buy these cars ?
In this economy ?

I'd love a new M5 - not gonna happen
A new CTS V - in my dreams

Maybe a standard SRT8 - but only if it has the new 8 speed
Personally though - I'm not a muscle car guy :(

So where does that leave me ?

Audi - RS5 and the upcoming RS7....way out of my price league
and the S5 and upcoming S7 are underpowered in my opinion- at least for the price

Porsche Panamera ?.......maybe if I rob the federal reserve :p

What would YOU do ?

By the way....anyone try sitting in the back of the charger SRT8 ? - there's something not quite right with the side bolstering - I think the seat is too narrow - your shoulder rests against it - and it's very annoying. Maybe it's ok for a kid back there - but I'm not exactly a big dude- and I'm having issues with it - Stuff three big guys back there - and you're gonna have a brawl on your hands in 10 minutes....lol -- no doubt

And the paddle shifters look like they were made in munchin land....the smallest I've ever seen.....kinda weird

Lots of wishes out there, but I hope Hyundai also remembers how Toyota got to be where they're at. And that was with solid reliability.

I am eagerly awaiting the 2013 Genesis, but I don't need all the whiz-bang that is being talked about on this thread. I especially don't need AWD or a lot more hp. For them to sell me a 2013 Geneses, it will need some more attractive colors on the 5.0 models and a decent passenger's seat with all the features of the driver's seat. And a bullet proof electronic system.

It seems like there have been a lot of early issues with the Genesis------don't sacrifice the elimination of those problems with a bunch of new features (and the likely problems they will lead to).

The 2013 Genesis (avaliable later this year) will be the same as 2012. The next generation Genesis will be a 2014 or 2015 model in the US (available in 2013 or 2014).

Have you seen that damm thing up close ?? Talk about a modern day real life Hot Rod.. ( It is more like the early Corvettes than the current Corvette is ) Who cares if others can edge it out by a couple tenths of a second.. This thing looks better than many, many "supercars" out currently.. although the tailights are a tad cheezy. (Too large and gaudy IMO)

The current Genesis was primarily developed for the Korean market.

The 2G Genesis is being developed for the world market and Hyundai Europe has significant input into the development of the 2G Genesis so an improvement in the handling dept. is a given (how much of an improvement is a ?).

While there are people who do not want/need AWD, Hyundai is losing as much as 50% in sales by not having available AWD as does all the other competitors (it will be an option anyways).

While the more auto enthusiasts buyers will like to see an improvement in handling and performance, the biggest need for the general buyer is probably an improvement in the design and quality of materials used for the interior.

If we see a similar bump for the interior of the Genesis as we have seen in the Azera and Santa Fe, that will do (the front seats in the Azera and new SF are better shaped/contoured than in the Genesis).

I made this prediction back in 2011

Let's see if my prediction comes true -

I am off by a year or two ( the R Spec should be here 2016 / 2017

Still the strong possibility of a new Turbo charged engine

Car WILL have AWD and I am certain it will have at least 470-480 HP

Why else would they build such a strong chassis

It has to handle the horsepower as well as the twisties ;)

Believe me - BMW owners like me are taking notice of this upcoming R Spec

If they can keep the price around $60,000 or less

They will hit a solid home run

That's over $40,000 less than the current M5

As a former E60 M5 owner - I find this upcoming R Spec very appealing :)

^ Really can't see Hyundai tossing in the 5.5 Tau into the Genesis when the problem w/ doing a 5.0 AWD for the US was fuel economy (gas guzzler tax).

W/ the 3.3T - Hyundai should do a Sport version and for a hard-core performance line, either TT the 5.0 or wait until a smaller displacement V8 is ready.

Not me. Too many gadgets and geegaws in the vehicle now. Don't need any more HP or paddle shifters and ten-speed tranny sounds like much overkill as this isn't a diesel we're driving.

Hyundai will keep pasting gadgets on the R-spec until it is as expensive and foolish as the German marques it competes with now. I hope not.

Since we're all speculating/dreaming, my 2c worth is

  • Supercharged and turbocharged V6 3.8L with 470-520 hp and 450+ lb./ft. (like Volvo is doing with the new 2.0L 4 that produces 300hp)
  • 7-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • Weight loss of 400 lbs. by using aluminum body panels and other weight-saving techniques, including less sound-proofing, forged wheels, and on and on.
I can dream, can't I?

Dead on^ I'd love to see a Polestar Genesis equivalent:) I was actually going to test drive an S60 R this summer, since I keep hearing that they are amazing.
