  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Jerky auto transmission (hard downshifts while braking)

Having the same problem here with my 3.3 HTRAC. Car has 12K miles on it and it seems to be related to a cold transmission for the first 15 minutes or so like everyone else has mentioned. Seems to smooth out after warmup. I live in Utah, hot summers and cold winters, pretty dry climate. Didn't notice it this summer when I bought it but more noticeable now that it has turned cold. It seems to be when it downshift into 2nd or possible 1st and it is annoying since most of my work commute and running around is only about 15 minutes. I compensate by coming to a quicker stop at traffic lights rather than a slow roll stop. Love the car, hate the jerky tranny. Also, seems to be a slight grind and a slight slip when I first put in in D after backing our of the garage. Happens only at slow speeds; don't know if it's related. Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing the jerking on downshifting.

I wonder what the cause is or if it can be replicated? I live in a place where we get 90F down to -30F and haven't experienced this (yet) however I always let the car warm up in winter....

Letting the car warm up isnt quite the same as what we are referring to by saying that it stops when warm. For me, it only stops when the trans is up to temp and this only occurs by driving around. In my opinion, I think this happens to every car to some degree but is more pronounced in others like mine and other posters here. Maybe a manufacturing/design flaw. Genesis has no ideas how to fix, so they dont want to acknowledge it as an issue even if they feel it in a test drive. A 'fix' would probably need to be a trans replacement and Genesis doesnt want to pay that out if they arent even sure it will fix the issue and start happening again.

Wow that’s awesome news! Got any paperwork you could share? That would explain exactly what they did and I could take it to my service advisor

they mentioned they found nothing wrong in the codes , so they contacted hyundai corporate and downloaded some update software for the gear and reset everything. SInce this, the downshift from 3 to 2 seems smooth and easy. No more worrying about jerking forward because I am breaking .

Oil change, mirror fix and this scheduled for next Saturday. I’ll be sure to update everyone as to what they say about my trans issue. I’m literally going to show my SA this screenshot and say ‘do this’

Update: appointment now Jan 6th to ensure Genesis tech is available. On another note, come on genesis don’t let me make an appointment online if a tech isn’t available, luckily I have a decent dealer that called me

Dropped car off, painless as usual. Still low rent Hyundai surroundings but at least the experience isnt bad. Anyways, service advisor took a picture of the screenshot I took so he can do exactly the same thing as @juanlee337 posted. SA mentioned that the other person checked for a software update but did not actually find and apply one. The only thing done was a reset to the adaptives.

While I was dropping my car off and explaining the issue, another service advisor walked in and said they drove in a brand new G70 just this morning and had been having the same issue. Perfect timing! We both had a bit of schadenfreude as we extolled how bad it was and constant when cold. This advisor asked my SA to take a look at hers after looking at mine to see if he can fix hers too. So Im not alone, even within the staff. Hoping that means that wont shrug it off as a non issue again.

Interested to hear the results!

I showed the screen shot to my dealer and they said they’ve done it two times already as I previously complained about it

they’ve reset it again since there’s no update for it yet (someone should do something about an official update)

the issue is still there and I can’t stand driving the G70 :(

Ill report back on mine the next time I have a cold start, might be a day or two with my WFH schedule. My SA wasnt hopeful about it fixing the issue

What did they do?

What did they do?
Reset all adaptives. That’s apparently all they can do. No software update exists. I still can’t get them acknowledge the issue, my paperwork still says cannot replicate even with an employee sitting right there saying she feels it too. I get corporate BS, I deal with it every day. So I understand the hard place they are under

I wonder why this occurs in some G70s and not others... Seems like either they can't figure it out, they feel it's a subjective issue or know what the problem is but the cost is significant to remediate... Unfortunately, Hyundai has been known to ignore major issues and hope they go away...

When it comes to luxury brands, maybe my expectations are unrealistic or high, but I would expect them to actually diagnose and fix this issue. Not being able to replicate is a lie, full stop. Anyone can feel it. I just wonder why they are being forced into saying that. Leftover Hyundai penny pinching? If I had to put money on it, it’s a culture change that needs to take place and so systemic I worry a full break is all that can save them

Yeah, they are selling a luxury brand now. People with money and influence will be buying these vehicles. It's not going to fly for long if they choose this path.

If they can replicate or not, it’s not going to make a difference. There should be an update for that provided by the mother company
How can we contact them in this regard? Because the dealer won’t contact them

I’ve heard this is a common issue with 8speed and 10speed automatics in different brands
They usually reflash and reset the TCM and it works, if this doesn’t work then there’s usually an update
