  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Jerky auto transmission (hard downshifts while braking)

If they can replicate or not, it’s not going to make a difference. There should be an update for that provided by the mother company
How can we contact them in this regard? Because the dealer won’t contact them

I’ve heard this is a common issue with 8speed and 10speed automatics in different brands
They usually reflash and reset the TCM and it works, if this doesn’t work then there’s usually an update
If they cant replicate it, how do they troubleshoot it and fix it? I work with developers and that is always the first step in making changes. Along with a risk register which would in this case would include the possibility of introducing new errors into the software for people who it is currently working fine for. Like I said, only someone very, very dumb or someone not trying at all could say that they 'cannot replicate' the issue. Its so obvious, and if they truly cared to fix it even my own SA could have offered to hold it overnight for a cold start considering I specifically told them they wouldnt be able to feel it since the engine and trans was up to temp at that point. He didnt even take that extra step.

Ive also heard that this is an issue with some of these higher gear transmissions. Genesis needs to take the first step, which is listening to owners and ensuring that dealerships take the extra step to truly troubleshoot it. If the dealerships were actually saying they felt it too we wouldnt all be going through this to this extent.

In terms of contacting, you can try to call Genesis customer care to open a case. Its a different phone number for each region I think, so youll have to google it. I wont try that. Already barked up that tree back when I first got my car. They did nothing to help me, and seemed less informed and helpful than even my own service department.

damn guys. sorry to hear that. I had pretty bad jerk but dealership seemed have completely fixed the issue for me.

Can confirm after a reset of adaptives, no more hard downshifts! Still only drove about 20 miles today but wow, it was a totally different car. My SA mentioned that the adaptives take up to 500 miles to set, so I suppose it remains to be seen if it comes back. I’m so happy now though! Only downside is that I have noticed my upshifts are a little slower/rougher at the moment but that is 100% ignorable compared to that 3-2 shift

Can we reset our own adaptives, or does that take TCM/ECU access? I get the occasional hard thunk when I shift into Park from Drive. Weird.

If this was something we could do ourselves I would have done it a long, long time ago with how much better my shifting is. Even pulling the battery wont reset. Youll need to have deeper access to clear them.

However I will note that I get that same clunk occasionally, resetting the adaptives didnt have any effect on that behavior

I monitored the transmission through the jb4
It shows in which gear the car is running
Found that the hard jerk is from 3rd to 2nd gear

I initially thought it was from 2nd to 1st

I'm a new victim to this issue unfortunately, and I just got the car with 40K miles on it about two weeks ago. I noticed it the next day after I bought it as mentioned above. I have the 2019 dynamic edition G70 and it really is getting annoying when coming up to a stop light/sign. I thumbs up the RECALL PETITION suggestion!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
update : looks like issue is again slowly happening again.. which sucks

Is this still happening to you guys? I was in the market for a G70, and was hesitant due to the automatic, and now even more so.

I took it to my Auto shop last week to see if they can reset the adaptive values in the transmission control module with a G-scan because it worked for another owner; however, they apparently weren't able to connect to the software. The good news is that the hard downshifts have become less frequent in the last few weeks, as they seem to only occur when my G70 has been sitting overnight and goes to normal after driving it for a little while until the next day.

It doesn’t happen in all G70s and there’s a good fix for it (reset) if yours happen to have it
I’m pretty sure we’ll see a permanent solution (update) soon

don’t let that scare off from owning this awesome car ♥️

I am also a victim to this as well. I own 2019 G70 2.0t it has always been very jerky especially coming to stops. But I thought it was normal as I never owned a car like this before, always had Toyota’s. Whenever I drive a Toyota again it just feels a bit more smooth when accelerating and braking. I just thought it was normal because of the engine with turbo(I’m not the most knowledgeable on car parts). Yesterday going back home from work my car started jerking nonstop, as soon as I pushed the peddle it started jerking, then the engine light came on and it was basically unusable. The display showed a warning saying a “full system check is needed TODAY” got my car towed to the dealership but it was after hours. So still waiting to hear what the dealership says the problem was. But now I’m left without a car and they don’t have any loaners available.

congrats, youve got a new issue then :/ None of ours came with any CEL, so youve got something way worse. Good luck, keep us posted

I was just told the “high pressure fuel hose” is bad and requires replacement. It was a design flaw they said. Anyone else heard about that for the G70’s? Or even a forum I can be directed to talking about that?

this is the most activate G70 forum on the internet. Ive not heard of this issue, and Ive not seen it reported on the Stinger Forum either. You might be able to find more luck on Facebook or something, I dont have that.

If they said it was a design flaw I would take that with a grain of salt. Most dealerships employees talk out of their ass unless they can back it up with a TSB. If it was truly a design flaw, they should be able to give you the TSB for the repair

It still happens when I first start driving in the AM, and then it goes away after 30 min, but then it comes back after been parked all day. The jerks don't feel as severe as they were during the first few months of ownership, or maybe I have just become used to it.

I’m having an issue with my transmission, started to notice it since the car had about 20000 km on the clock (car now has 52000 km)

the car doesn’t smoothly downshifts during normal soft braking or in stop and go traffic or at a traffic light
The downshifts are very noticeable and that makes the braking experience unpleasant. Especially when I’m braking very softly, the car brakes very soft (brakes) then it suddenly brakes harder (transmission) then brakes softly again (brakes) then harder again (transmission).
this isn’t something that I’ve experienced in any other car.
the closest other car that does that is my 2018 G80 3.8L but it’s much smoother.

recently I’m experiencing jerky downshifts more often (the downshifts are harder and with a slight noise, sometimes louder) .. I’m not having fun with the car anymore

car modifications: Ark GT-F springs, spacers, wider tyres front and rear (20mm) on stock sport rims (245/40/19 front .. 275/35/19 rear)

the shift points are a little bit different (says other G70 and stinger owners who test drove my car) but this could be due to the fact that I’m running fatter tyres >> bit taller side wall
But this one doesn’t really bother me and it’s still very smooth

could someone suggest a fix for these hard downshifts?
the dealer claims he checked it and it’s normal and he also claims he did a software upgrade to the transmission control module .. but that obviously didn’t help
I know if I keep going to the dealer about it he would blame it on the Tyre size

I had this problem even with stock tyres (tyres changed at 40000 km) .. did try to run the stock tyre size now and that didn’t help also >> so maybe the tyres aren’t the problem here (only transmission effect tyre diameter have is on the final drive ratio)

I’m still hopeful this could be solved through software.. any help or advice?

thank you
Glad...so glad I'm not the only one. Did you ever figure out the problem?
