  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When doing a bit of waxing, I just noticed a couple of small patches of clear plastic coatings, just in front of the rear wheel of my Genesis. They are about 4 x 5 inches.

Can anyone explain to me what these might be?

Paint protection film. Many cars now days utilize this in specific areas on the vehicle prone to damage.

It minimizes chip damage from rocks.

and loves to collect grime and wax on the edges of the film.. i have a rubbr tool to clean this otherwise fingernail in a microfiber along the edges with some quik detailer gets it off. still hate it though. i removed it on my Sierra due to the buildup (that was a larger patch though maybe 12x6. because i had mudflaps i never had any rock damage.

One of my sister's live off of a dirt road in rural Missouri (near Whiteman AFB). This dirt road is over 10 miles long and her drive way is paved with rock. That plastic is chipped up on mine because of those roads. It beats respraying that portion of the car.

'09's have the same plastic film. I think he said his plastic film has some "damage," which is better than having paint damage.

right

It also starts to peel off after some time - mine is looking kinda crummy right now. Still undecided whether to remove it because I just know the moment after I do, its going to get a rock chip.
