  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My fob's battery died the other day so I bought a couple new batteries and proceeded to YouTube to watch a video on the proper method to replace it. Unfortunately, I found one (by a dealer's service manager) which suggested using the key to split the case apart. DO NOT DO THAT!

I managed to bend the key AND chipped a piece off the fob trying to pry the case apart.

Instead, do this: There is a little slot right next to the key storage hole. Find a straight blade screwdriver the same size as the slot. Insert and twist - the case will come apart very easily with no risk of breaking the plastic or bending your emergency key.

That is weird. I have used my key dozens of times and haven't bent it

The guy on the video twisted his key and the case just popped open but mine did not and I actually twisted the key trying. Did not want to destroy the key so looked for another method. Using the screwdriver was very easy and did not damage the fob.

I saw the notch once I removed the metal key. A screw driver, that just fit in the notch, worked fine.

My attempt was the first time I had tried taking it apart. I used the same method on my wife's fob and had the same results. Must have been a good batch of plastic. :)
