If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no daytime running lights, right? If I like to drive with my headlights on, I have to do it myself.

But there is an "automatic" light feature, which apparently turns the lights on automatically when the car senses low light levels, such as approaching sunset.

But this automatic feature doesn't come on when it starts raining, which, in Florida makes it mandatory to have headlights on.

I miss the DRL from my other vehicle...as I always had lights on that way, even in a quick and brief Florida downpour.

So, again....there are no daytime running lights, or a way to select that feature?

Muchas gracias from Acey!:D

Only the folks with Canadian versions will have DRL's as it is the law in Canada. It seems like it would be a simple adjustment to activate DRL's. I remember when this became popular in the US (somewhere around 1998-99), I took a 1997 Lexus ES in for a free activation of the DRL's offered by Lexus. Took them about 30 minutes.

Here in NC it is the law to have headlights on when using wipers. DMV makes it clear the just having your DRL's on when using your wipers is a violation. You must have actual headlights on when wipers are in use.

I have never understood why auto makers in recent years haven't designed their machines to turn on the headlights when the wipers have been activated. It's also mandated by law here in California and should be considered a general safety issue in states where it isn't the law.

I agree. It should be simple to integrate it with the rain sensor so that you don't get headlights flashing on and off if you just want to clean the windshield on a clear day.

I have also stopped using the Automatic feature for the headlights as I found the light sensor so sensitive it would bring the lights on and off every time I went beneath an overpass on the highway. The drivers in front probably thought I was flashing them. I usually just leave the headlights in the ON position so they come on when the engine is running.

There are several cars that do it. My Grandfather's 04 Grand Marquis does and I drove a Grand Cherokee that did it as well. Its out there, just not every manufacturer is on board.

But is it always dark when there is percipitation? I think not. I do aggree-a simple switch that activates headlamps when wipers are activated would be simple. That way I can flash people when I use my washers to get the bugs off too!

I'm with CanukV6...leave them ON and it does the same task as DRL. Start the engine, lights come on. I never think about turning them on any more. If it rains, they are already on. Again...never think about it anymore...

You may want to check this out. On my 04 BMW it was a dealer's adjusted setting. As it came from factory, my car was just like yours, over sensitive. Once the dealer set it to the lesser sensitive position, it became very useful and easy to live with!

Fwiw, if you rely only on DRLs in a daytime rain shower, you're doing nothing to improve your visibility to drivers behind you. in a way, you're better off having to turn them on manually since you get the tail lights on as well!

OK, so if I just leave the lights always ON, and turn the engine OFF, the lights will go out, (obviously) but they won't "drain the battery" and they WILL come back ON when I start the engine up again, right? And in leaving them ON, this will not cause any damage or any extra harmful load on the engine (or the lights themselves) when I re-start it, right?

How much useful life does those lights have?

If the lights go off with the car, then no, you won't do any damage just leaving them on all the time. If you really want DRLs though, you may want to ask your local dealer about installing them - they burn at a lower rate than full headlights, so your bulbs will last longer.

Yes, that is the law here in Canada. But we just picked up our new Genesis yesterday and today we noticed it does not have daytime running lights. That is strange because it is illegal to sell them here without them. And, yes, this is a Canadian car. It has km on the odometer and kph on the speedometer.

I am not happy about this illegal and dangerous situation and will be taking the car back on Monday to get it fixed.

Interesting. Surprised you can even buy a car in Canada without the DRL's. Just for giggles, I asked the service mgr about DRL's when I was in for an oil change and tire rotation last week. Of course they had no clue. I was told to just leave my lights on and they will always be on when the car is on and will go off when the car is turned off! Uh, not the same as DRL's!

My dad's Canadian car had no DRLs for the last month and a half or so... but the dealership fixed it (on the second visit - first time around they couldn't find a problem?!?!?). Some kind of wiring problem, they said.

I'm starting to think there's some kind of manufacturing issue with the DRLs?

More than likely workers are not installing the DRL components or settings since all cars world wide are made on the same assembly line, but Canada is the only country that gets different wiring.

I think that's right.

If an American opens up the fuse box (the one under the hood, passenger side), is there a DRL fuse?

Hi, everyone. I'm new to the forum and, after just one week into ownership, I'm still trying to fathom out all the wrinkles to this fabulous car.

Now, to DRLs or the lack of them. There is a vacant slot in the passenger side fuse bay but it is not labeled. However, in the relay bay adjacent to the driver's side headlamp, there is a vacancy labeled "DRL" Maybe if someone could find out the correct rating of that relay we could try that out.

Regarding wiper control of the running lights, my Chevy Traverse and (ex) Impala both have this feature. The lights turn on after about 8 sweeps of the blades. I doubt if it would be easy to introduce this feature to the Genesis but, if anyone finds a way, please let us know.
