  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took my Genesis 4.6 in for the latest oil change, and noticed the following: Where all previous oil changes have had this description

oil - B Oil

this time it had

oil - B Duramax

can anyone let me know, or have gotten this oil when have the oil changed ?

What type of oil is this ?

Dealers (or owners) can use whatever brand of motor oil they want, so long as it meets specifications. Duramax is brand of lubricants and other auto maintenance products from a smaller company, that probably buys the stock from independent refineries/distributors so they can sell it under their own name.

It appears that the only oil sold under the Duramax brand is full synthetic or synthetic blend. You are probably getting synthetic blend (mix of full synthetic and conventional), which is better than 100% conventional oil.

Thanks for that answer. I had never heard of Duramax before, again, thanks for the URL, so I guess that they <Hyundai> knows that this oil is OK for their cars. Thanks again.

Your dealer is not Hyundai. Dealers are independent businesses that are not owned by Hyundai Motor America. Dealers buy new Hyundai's from Hyundai Motor America (the importer/distributor), and sell them to consumers, and they provide authorized warranty service on behalf of Hyundai Motor America (who reimburses the dealer for parts and labor for warranty service).

However, I am sure that the Dynamax oils I saw on their web page do meet Hyundai specifications, assuming your dealer uses the correct viscosity (5W-20 or 5W-30 or equivalent).
