  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Launch Control on G80

Do you mean "break" things? Wouldn't that wear the clutch a bit?
Yes I meant break things not “Brake” I forget to spell check my blog posts. The g80 sports are all automatic transmissions. If the clutch you are referring to are the many clutches within the transmission then yes that would be one of the potential points of failure. Power braking and loading the transmission for any length of time on a launch leaves you open to a component failure of many of the Internal transmission components. Now if you meant clutch failure we are talking about the 4cyl g70. That could be remedied with upgraded clutch and pressure plate components. Upgrading one part to make it stronger will work to an extent. At some point you will just find the next weakest component.

Playing around tonight with launching. I watched the boost gauge on Jb4, TC off, ST off in sport mode, left foot brake right foot floored. I built 5psi and away she goes. I tried it in maps 0,1,2, and 3, all worked. I didn't think it would build boost with out the brake wire snip trick.

Mech8266, thanks for sharing the pic of tools needed to replace plugs. I understand every tool in pic, except the black round w cams part next to the driver. I’m sure this will be a duh moment for me after you answer. Thanks

Don't feel bad I am a Heavy Equipment Tech and I am wondering what that black thing is as well.

That is a precision spark plug gapping tool. It came as part of the spark plug kit I ordered. I wanted the plugs and the magnetic spark plug socket ( which works brilliantly btw ) and wanted to dial in the spark plug gap as precise as possible. I was a professional mechanic for 12 years and never saw one of these before ordering this kit. Screw your spark plug Into it and then snug it down to whatever gap you want using the feeler gages. It works great. Not necessary by any means but easy to use so why not. I have tried many other gapping tools over the years. This one is the best I have used so far. Got them from the burger motorsports page when I bought the jb4.

Nice! Thanks for the tutorial. 👍

The G80/G80 sport doesn't have LC at all.

My best time is 4.42 I'm tuned with JB4 and I used Dragy.
Day Umm that’s a beauty. Waiting for the preowned market price on that one to get my own.

How do you launch your g80 sport AWD? I don’t know too much about launching. I just bought a g80 sport, coming from a Mustang, and the delay in response is noticeable. I heard for a red car, you can hold the brake and gas until the desired rpm then let go of brakes. I heard that may not be the process for an AWD car.

I have a 2022 G80 Sport and Launch Control works fine. Put it in Sport or Sport+ mode. Then hold down the traction control button for 3 seconds.
1.webp

You will get a beep and cluster confirmation that they have been disabled.
2.webp

Fully hold down the brake, and then fully hold down the gas pedal. You will get visaul confirmation that Launch Control is ready as well as a beep.
3.webp

Simply let go of the brake as quickly as possible and enjoy the ride. And don't worry about over-revving the engine... Launch Control actually does a great job of intelligently managing everything.

I'm not gonna lie, I love v8's....but this 3.3tt tuned was incredible! with ~475hp/486tq, it goes from ~70-150mph like a rocket! haha!
I considered G70 at one point, but those are small cars, so I went with GV70 3.5tt instead.
If you don't mind small trunk and don't have small kids, go for it. Otherwise get G80 sport awd. And if you do, I'd sell you my tuned ECU. I still have it, lol

Just replaced my totalled 2017 G80 with a 2021 3.3TT Prestige. Interested in the tuning option. I see the $529 KDM price, what year is yours and does that even matter? Also curious if you have heard / know about pairing with PedalCommander, which I had for my 2017.

Don't bother with pedal commander or whatever it's called. It doesn't do sh*t. Switch to "sport mode" and save the money.
By saying "Prestige", that means you got G70, correct? If yes, I would get tuned ECU from Lozic, which is cheaper than Lap3. Not sure how much, but probably around $500.
What is "$529 KDM price" ?

When I was researching the trim levels for the 2021 G80 redesign, it seemed that they had dropped the Ultimate designation. The used 2021 I found was listed with the Prestige package. While I’m digging the 3.3TT vs the 3.8 NA in my 2017, I still miss the 5.0 in my first 2013 RSpec.
But I was really responding to your offer to sell your JB4. That word in your post had a hyper link to KDM warehouse website listing the new unit for $529. (Are you still selling yours?)
On the Pedal Commander, it was kinda fun a few times to reduce my throttle lag but it was tiresome to keep it amped up. when I needed it the most, (sneaking quick left turn in traffic) I never had it active. It isnt available for the 3.3TT so my decision is made for me. The throttle response on the 2021 is much better to begin with anyway.

The JB4 is long gone. I still have Lozic's tuned ECU for 2018-202 G80 sport 3.3tt

The Pedal Commander enhanced the driving experience for those that don't have any other logical options. My 3.8 is a good example. If you have an engine that can be tuned, go that route.
