  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Leather wear

my seat looks similar to that and i'm @ 26k

my leather appears to be wearing a bit prematurely as well. I have tan interior and I am at 12k. I do not have the ultimate package. I just plan on continuing to care for it properly and if it continues to wear I will discuss it with the dealer. I did notice this on my G1 but I figured the issue would have been remedied in the G2. Oh well. The seats are still much more comfortable than the G1's.

I have 22,000 miles on mine and my beige interior still looks like new. I use Lexol conditioner and cleaner about every three months. Someone on here highly recommend it. It goes on very easy and doesn't take long to apply.

Thanks! Would you mind taking a photo of your drivers seat?

Will do.

Definitely need to use the Lexol cleaner and conditioner. Both this Genesis and my last one were showroom cars and thus saw a lot of butt action and my leather definitely looks a little wrinkly.

As for the shininess in the OP's photo, Lexol will take care of that. But as AlwaysForward said (great guy despite him having a slower car color), it needs to be used once every couple of months.

Does using Lexol more frequently have any detrimental effects or are you saying it should be used at least once every couple of months.

I've been using it a couple of time a month to keep the blue jean transfer at bay.

I'm saying it should be used at least every couple of months. I actually can't see any detriment with using it more frequently, but I'm not an expert in this area. If I had blue-jean stains I'd be using it all the time as well; I would be more afraid of the effect of leaving the dye on the seats than whatever Lexol left behind.

No worries Aquineas, the slower color you drive has no ill effects do to blue jeans 😀

I only ask because someone mentioned upthread that cleaning/conditioning may have led to stretching, which I don't want.

I have read posts in another forum that using certain products too frequently could lead to over softening the leather, and could lead to the stretching. I am not sure that Lexol was one of the products mentioned.

Real leather does tend to soften and stretch a bit, and develop some creases with wear. That in itself is not necessarily a defect.

I had really good luck with Zaino's leather cleaner, and conditioner. The cleaner did a great job removing dirt, and the conditioner was excellent, and smelled great, but not artificial.

I recently found a product at Walmart called "Surf City Garage Voodoo Blend Leather Rejuvenator" It seems very similar to the Zaino. I prefer both that and the Zaino to Lexol.

It's also available on Amazon, and it had very good reviews.

I saw an ad for it on the Super Terrific Happy Hour ;)

Hi Guys,
I seem to have the same issue with the seats of my Genny ... I'm only at 500km and on the driver's seat I have same damage as db6.
Did your dealer told you what to use to soften the leather? Or what you use?
It seems that damage is done because the leather is not soften... That's my opinion.

My 2011 is the same way. The seats deteriorated rather quickly , all passengers remove sharp objects before the entered and the leather is conditions occasionally . no reason for my seats to look that way either

Leather is meant to wear over time and more so under situations where it is in regular contact. Different grades of leather will wear differently - but they all will show signs of wear and do need some minimal care. The leather in my Ultimate closely resembles BMW's Nappa, which is on their higher end cars and is full-grain, un-split semi-aniline leather with a light clear coating on top of the surface for protection.

The proliferance of leather-like material has skewed the views for many on how leather wears. Virtually any real leather car will eventually show wear particularly on the side bolsters and other areas which receive regular contact. Mercedes MBTex found in most Mercedes is a vinyl material that resembles leather, but has little of it's wear issues (there have however been some spotty manufacturing issues). BMW's Dakota Leather (5 series) is a lower grade leather, usually corrected-grain and coated with a synthetic polymer paint. It's surface is embossed with an artificial grain. More durable, but not as nice. This and other materials have made real leather wear more noticeable and requiring additional care, but for many real leather is hard to beat.

Yours looks like ivory, correct? I have ivory but on mine the plastic and the controls are not color matched to the ivory but rather are black. What is your exterior color?

Mine is Beige and the exterior is Montecito Blue 5.0 Ultimate package.

My driver seat after few days after I get the car looks the same way.
What you think guys? If the leather is treated with something about to soften the leather, maybe this will work. I order for treatment TURTLE WAX LEATHER CLEANER AND CONDITIONER
Opinions?

I haven't heard many good things about Turtle Wax products but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work.
