If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi all, (Lexicon 17 Speaker, 528 Watt System from the Tech Package).

I'm looking for some suggestions/feedback that would possibly help me with this situation, it would be greatly appreciated so long as it's constructive in nature;(please don't say lower the volume or anything silly like that lol). The audio system in this car is well capable of handling it and is world renown as being one of the best audio solutions for what is considered a "stock unit":

When I start playing my music a bit on the loud side (from 15ish-22 on the volume meter) with all treble, mid-range, and bass settings on flat across the board and it hits low bass notes, the Sun Shade starts to vibrate a lot and makes this horrible resonating noise that transfers through the back deck and in turn makes the trunk start to rattle. If you get out and close all the doors and look at the back deck with the music turned up on something with moderately heavy bass you can see the shade vibrating like crazy.

Has anyone found a solution or has any suggestion on how to deaden the amount that the shade vibrates/jumps without disabling the ability of the shade to move? I thought about using some DynaMat but the installer at Best Buy said it has a tar like backing to it to help it stick and if any of it gets on the tan cloth on the back deck you would never get it off.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, I truly appreciate all the help that the community gives and love coming here to talk about our car(s). :grouphug:

Right there with you. I have been anoid as well, I just could not identify the source of the vibration until reading your email.

Now I plan to see if this is same issue causing my low base rear deck vibration.

Looking forward to learning if anyone else has found way to solve this issue

Have you ever measured your SPL level you are listening at? -- SPL meters at Radio Shack for not too much $$$. If you are listening above 90db, you are damaging your hearing.

I'm sure at times I have it above 90 decibels, but not on a continuous basis and I do realize that constant listening to anything that loud will damage your hearing...but at my age I'm blessed to still be doing well in this department. Every once in a while I just like to blow the dust out of the speakers :D ...

It doesn't always have to be turned up loud for this anomaly to happen, sometimes the bass just hits really low on specific songs and causes the vibration to take place with the rear shade. We definitely know it is the shade and not the back deck/trunk making the noise because once the stereo technician at Best Buy stuffed a couple little pieces of foam between the back deck liner and the shade (which made the shade non-functional during this test) the vibration was all but eliminated.

Most times when you hear a noise like that you immediately think it is your trunk because of how many times you have gone down the road yourself and been at a stoplight and all you hear is that noise coming from a person's trunk, which in their case is way to much bass and nowhere near enough sound deadening material to absorb the vibration the bass is creating.

Sometime within the next couple of days I will take a short video (without sound as to not annoy people looking at the video) to show this vibration taking place. I was just wondering if anyone else had noted this when listening to their audio system at different volume levels. Mine is noticeable even below sound level 16, sometimes as low as 7 when these specific bass notes take place.

No I don't always listen to music with a lot of bass in it but when I choose to all I should hear is crisp, clean bass coming from such a highly rated sound system. Heck, even on some Jazz music that has strumming bass notes in it this vibration can come into play. It's more of an annoyance then a true problem, but I'm just curious if anyone knows a possible fix to this and was able to share some insight on the subject at hand.

Thanks as always, I love my Genny and wouldn't replace her for any other vehicle on the road personally. It has by far been one of if not the nicest Sedan I have driven for my $$ spent. :)

My sunshade has been known to make a rattle noise as well. It is annoying.... if someone finds a simple solution let me know. My shade even rattles (slightly) even when I hit a bump in the road....

You guys have to stop listening to that "Rap Crap". I've found that listening to Peter, Paul and Mary 24/7 works well with the 17 speakers--

Classical guitar works great too

Thanks for that tip on the boom boom music :D

It doesn't only happen with "Rap Crap", if that was the case then the easy solution is to not listen to it like you said lol......

It happens with quite a range of music from Jazz to classic rock such as Pink Floyd and everything in-between. Anytime the bass gets low for whatever reason the sun shade goes bonkers and begins to vibrate (which just happens to sound like a trunk rattling).........

I listen to a lot of instrumental jazz and whenever it has a bass guitarist, or other instruments that make the sub start to go to work you can really hear that shade going crazy. I try to keep the shade up as much as possible which helps to lessen the noise a little, but during the day unless I'm traveling on the highway I want maximum visibility out of all my windows. The traffic here in Florida is crazy enough as it is and most here cant drive worth the crap...and god help us if it starts to rain :)

The home improvement stores sell various sizes of foam weatherstripping tape in rolls. I have found it works well to quell the buzzing without staining the upholstery. If you can find the source of the buzzing maybe a small tab between the two offending parts might help. Put on your music at the point where you hear the noise and go in the back and see if you can locate exactly where the vibration comes from. The tape generally has adhesive on one side and can be cut to size with a utility knife or scissors. Then place it between the offending parts. Hopefully this will cure the problem. I have also used the little soft plastic bumpers sold for drawers to fix the chatter you can get on the rear license plate at elevated levels of bass. In my own particular case my XM makes some horrible, obnoxious noise whenever Pelosi, Read, and Obama are speaking and no amount of foam tape or bumpers seems to be able to fix that.

This probably isn't overly helpful, but I do recall a post from a long time ago regarding the shade, and it turned out a lot of cars were missing a gasket or washer or something that was supposed to prevent this vibration. You might want to search for the old post on the topic (I'm too lazy to do that, sorry).

That's quite a coincidence - I have a similar experience when Limpbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter, among others, are on. The only thing that helps is to change stations or turn the radio off altogether. I wonder what it is about political voices that cause our systems to emit such horrible noise.

Yup, you have see a doctor about this problem. And there is probably very little hope for you at this time. They have not perfected the Brain transplant from your backside to where it should be.

1. You don't want to hear it, so I won't tell you.

2. Don't matter, because in a few years, you won't be able to hear it anyway. (Don't shoot the messenger, but thats the way it is).

I have this problem too. I have to switch over to my AUX input with the quickness before the ObamaZombies come out and remind us that the US Constitution is full of "negative liberties".

I'm pretty sure Obama is our King, Pelosi is our Queen and Chelsea Clinton is our Princess. Hey did you guys/gals hear that Snookie got arrested?

I hear you there ctrcbob :)...or maybe I don't lol....I'm an old DAT, and if the many years of a 120MM Cannon going off hasn't managed to rob me of what hearing I have left, then I am pretty sure occasionally listening to music at higher volume levels isn't going to do much more to destroy it at this point... :D

Most times I don't keep the volume levels up really high, usually only between 7-11'ish. Even within that range though certain notes just make that shade vibrate like crazy.

-------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the suggestion msitter, I will try to better isolate exactly what is letting it vibrate and try to concentrate on that area. Maybe if I can bolster it up some without adding to much weight then the shade will still operate properly. I will look into it more this upcoming weekend and keep you informed.

Heya ASHDUMP :)....how's things been going...good to still see you trolling around on the forums. Lol @ Snooki getting arrested...for Disorderly Conduct...Imagine that !!! :p

Thanks ShoNuff, I will try and find more info on this, appreciate the input :)

If after listening to 120MM Cannons going off, and you need to have your radio LOUD, you have what us former Morse Operators used to call, "A Tin Ear".

A ditty bopper? You're dating yourself! I had my choice of Ft Devens for Morse operator school, or Monterey, CA for Russian language school. Believe it or not, I chose the latter :D
