LKAS Warning Message No Hands on the wheel

Got my 2018 G80 back in March and about once a month I drive to San Diego (from Huntington Beach, 90 miles trip), I get that loud/annoying message of keep your hands on the steering wheel, several times each way, even though both hands are on the steering wheel. And I've tried 2/10 3/9 and 4/8 positions on the wheel to no avail. I tried to look in the user manual but that warning msg is not listed in the manual. Really annoying!

You may want to talk to the dealer and see if anything can be done about sensitivity. I can go many miles with one hand about 8. Even just a few fingers.

Seems a few people have it go off much easier than the rest of us. With two hands, you should not be getting anything.

Ed, think a front end alignment may help correct?

I've driven with hands off and the alarm will come on and I've driven with hands on and the alarm sounds and by removing hands will silence the alarm. Which makes me wonder, what would need attention to correct?, Alignment?

One thing that I'm not positive of is how the alarm is triggered. One possibility is slight movement of the wheel. If that is the case, when you take your hands off the wheel you may wiggle it enough that the alarm shuts down.

Assuming that is correct, the car tracks well, but can you drive long enough, hands on the wheel and not jiggle it? Perhaps, but in the course of a mile or three usually a slight correction is needed. I'm thinking if it is motion it may be set too far to pick up slight movement. I would hope a good Genesis tech would know what to do.

One is a position sensor and the other is a torque sensor. Both are used to determine that you are turning the steering wheel or holding it to keep it from turning. The torque sensor is the one that tells the steering ECU that you are turning the wheel or not allowing it to turn. So I believe it is the torque sensor that is setting off the alarm. I don't think there are any adjustments to this sensor except by software in the steering ECU.
I'm still thinking about it and if I come up with something I will let you know.

Makes a lot of sense. My thought was, if it was normally set at say, 1mm turn in either direction says OK, if it was set instead at 3mm, chances are the wheel is not turning enough to trip the sensor. On good road and a car tracking well, little movement for correction is needed. Now we just have to find how to set it.
 
Was anyone ever successful in adjusting the sensor that triggers this warning? It is the one feature I find most annoying as mine goes off every few miles when on a straight and level highway.
 
Concur with Barham, pretty annoying. I turn it off occasionally, which I hate to do, but I talked myself in thinking I don't need it 100% of the time.

Is it going off when you hands are still on the wheel?
 
Always have hand or hands on wheel. On straight road, the car needs very little input from me to track the center of the roadway. When alarm goes off, it requires a more exaggerated input - wiggle the wheel - to turn off.

Yup that is the way it is supposed to work. Without the wiggle it has no way of knowing you have your hands on the wheel.

The quick easy way to turn the alarm off is.... take your hands off the wheel for a couple of seconds.

Sounds that way but my experience is different. I've driven with gloves to avoid skin contact and get no alarm. Couple of weeks ago I drove about 20 miles and never put my hands on the wheel but gave it a nudge with cardboard every minute or so and no alarms. Just a half degree or less wheel movement kept if from alarming. I had no physical body contact during that time, a nice flat straight stretch at 50 mph.

Practical experience beats interpretation of the manual any day.
 
Interesting indeed... in my experience, the alarm goes off when I have a light touch on the wheel.

What I don't know is how much movement is needed and if it can be adjusted. There have been a few complaints about it going off. Maybe a good road and a car tracking well is what does it. Would be nice if the dealer can adjust the overly sensitive though.
 
I may be beating a dead house to death here but this problem is sure annoying. I'm hoping to hear from someone that experienced the problem and found a fix. I've tried all the recommendations in this post without success. The "Keep hands on steering wheel" display message and loud audio warning persists. My G80 does not sense my hands are on the steering wheel. When driving in a straight line at speeds above 40 mph with both hands and a good grip on the steering wheel I get this warning. If I take my hands off the wheel the message goes away. If I leave my hands on the wheel and even gripp tighter the warning continues until there is a message that LKAS will be disabled temporarily. At times this repeats at 1 minute intervals or less. Changing hand position and giggling the wheel doesn't stop the warning. Changing the LKAS from "Active" to "Standard" in the Driving Assist menu has no effect. I have had this problem since delivery.

The solution from Genesis (owners.genesis.com) is to turn of LKA. The local dealer has verified the problem. They replaced the the LKA control unit and calibrated the system ($2k under warranty) but it made no difference. For a reference, I drove my 2016 Genesis with LKAS on all the time. In 3 years I never had that message unless I purposefully took my hands off the wheel.
 
My 2019 G80 3.8 Base model does the same thing but not as bad as yours.

I drive mostly in city traffic which requires a lot of movements, but when on the highway and I'm tracking straight and true, I've had it happen (at times) every 2-5 minutes.

It does not appear to be a hand grip issue but a movement issue. I say that because if I jiggle the wheel slightly when the warning goes off, it stops.

What bugs me the most is the impact on my passengers. It scares my wife - when the beeps go off, she pops her head up and looks around quickly to see if we're about to get into a wreck- making it a stressful ride for her. My guy friend passengers laugh at the technology miss.

I have not yet addressed it with the dealer, or Genesis. I've only got 1800 miles on the car with no significant road trip, yet.
