If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long term owners: How many miles, what has broken, and are you satisfied with the car's reliability?

The particular one that I have a contract on is not a CPO. That said; I'm going to compare with the CPO available now...
Thanks for the info..

what should the tire pressure be
I like to run about 2 or 3 psi above what the sticker says. In cold climates a bit on the higher side prevents alarms after sitting all night.

2015 5.0 CPO car, bought end of July '18, has 34k miles on it now (put 6k on it in 7 months).

1. Apple CarPlay does not work right. Phone won't stay connected, different cables, iPhones, just does what it wants. Sometimes will work all day, sometimes it'll work for 5 minutes and disconnect, sometimes will cancel the connection immediately, sometimes unplugging/replugging multiple times gets it to work. Who knows? It's a mystery to me. Been to the service department a half dozen times, they want to charge me $320 to replace the USB and power socket assembly. Got Hyundai involved, and they're completely worthless. See #2.

2. 2015 electronics warranty SUCKS. It's only like 2-3 years or something stupid.

3. Fuel module quit working one day. Had to be towed (warranty)

4. Sunroof wasn't closing, apparently gunk stuck in there. Cost $105 to "clean it" of leaves and debris.

5. Shift indicator plastic has bubbles.

6. B-pillars oxidizing. Service tech says this is a warranty fix, just bring it in anytime. Haven't done so yet.

7. Sunroof creaks sometimes.

8. There's a very faint rattle coming from somewhere on the passenger side, but only occasionally.

That said, love the car. It's fast as hell, especially on a roll. Good looking car but sometimes I'll see a Sonata at a distance and think it's a Genesis, too. Would I buy another? Don't know because I am not crazy about how they've handled this CarPlay thing. If I can afford an S63 sedan, that's what I'm going with. But it should tell you something that the only sedan I'd be ever interested in beside this Genesis is a MB S63.

Huh? Maybe the blames goes with Apple. IMO, the guys at Apple are arrogant pricks that do not allow for easy third party anything. I have and never will have Apple equipment.

I'm with EdP.
Apple always are on the surface so happy to try & help but give you NOTHING if you are out of warranty. Like Tesla it's sort of a Cult. I'm a Android /PC Guy.

The 2015 electronic warranty has a very short coverage time period. 3y/36 months. It is almost like Hyundai knew the electronics were bit flaky.:) An full comprehensive extended warranty that covers electronics would be a good thing to buy with our cars due to the minor yet expensive electronic issues the model has like reverse camera issues and some radio issues that have been reported by some members on this forum.

The chrome trim pieces on the transmission shifter and wiper/signal stalks are not the best quality. I replaced my shift knob and shift indicator for better looking replacements sourced from Ebay.

I covered my scratched/faded B-pillars with 3M carbon-fiber Di-noc trim.

The passenger side rattle could be coins or some other object in the door pocket. I had an occasional rattle in my passenger door that turned out to be a couple coins moving around the door storage area.

The 2015 Genesis is not perfect, but most of my issues were easily corrected out-of-pocket by buying parts cheaply on Ebay. I spend about $130 dollars total to buy a new shift knob, used shift indicator trim and wiper/signal control stalks, and B-pillar vinyl carbon fiber trim. Now the car looks mostly new on the inside and outside.

I am not sure of the age of your phone, but Carplay works best with newer phones with quad-core processors. My old LG3 phone used to work like crap in my SUV with Carplay/Android Auto similar to what you described. My LG5 phone works perfectly with no connection issues. I would also try using a new highspeed data USB cable as well since some older cables do not transfer data well and can cause connection issues.

hey all i dont come on here much but when i do i like to catch up on as many conversations in as many threads as possible. after reading all of the posts in this particular discussion i cant help but feel bad for everyone that has had a less than stellar experience. my '15 base 5.0 has been absolutely outstanding, the only times it has been to the dealer is for oil changes. although i have only put 13k on it, my driving could be described as "spirited". i have had zero of the previously listed issues and my biggest gripe from day 1 is i wish the steering wheel adjusted down another inch...(that and hyundai still cant figure out how to paint plastic the exact same color as metal).... with that being said this car is also my baby, nobody in the state of WI takes better care of any vehicle...i can count on 1 hand the amount of times it has been rained on in almost 4 years, which may or may not help explain my lack of problems.....anyway i love mine, and although i can only speak for myself i would not hesitate to recommend this vehicle to anyone.

87K miles after almost 5 years of ownership on my 2015 3.8 Ultimate. I've actually had a lot of warranty work done on the car, but I have a feeling it's mostly because of incompetent dealerships.

-panoramic sunroof replaced in the first year of ownership; it actually would not close one day
-whirring sound from drive shaft after cold start and under 40 MPH; fix was easy...but can't remember what it was
-silver trim pieces in high touch areas wore off around 50K revealing a shiny metal sheen underneath (near sunglass case, transmission shift knob
-power trunk button on dashboard wore off; button works, however

For a job 1 build on then-brand new vehicle/platform, I'm fine with it. Mechanically the car has been fine; it's all just cosmetic things that wore prematurely and are probably rectified in later model years.

As for would I buy one again? Well... I do smile every time I drive the car. It's been that great. But I absolutely abhor the dealership experience, and working with Hyundai Motor America is not that great either. If Genesis had a separate dealer arrangement, like we all thought they would go through with, then I'd say yes in a heartbeat. Now, it's more like 50-50. And don't get me started with there not being a single SUV in the lineup still.

Its not Apple's fault. It's probably something to do w/ the headunit or outlet. I completely lost iPod controls via USB and had to get a complete head unit replacement.

This is why you gotta get the extended warranty :D

I'm glad I read this thread. I'm on the threshold of purchasing a CPO 2016 Genesis, and I've never before included a warranty in my purchased, but I'll most likely do so this time. I previously owned a 2015, and have always regretted trading it in.

My Hyundai Genesis 4.6 is now just over 10 years old. I have only put 35,000 miles on it since purchasing it new in 2009. The car has proved to be reliable, while never stranding me anywhere or requiring an emergency visit to my dealer. The only 2 reportable problems where 'electronics': Just after 5 years of ownership, a module that controls the memory settings for the mirrors/seat/steering wheel failed (although fortunately, ALL of the motorized controls still work independently for adjustment). The quoted cost to repair was $1,500 prox. When I reminded my service advisor this was not my Mercedes-Benz but a Hyundai, he replied that the same repair for my M-B would easily be double. I did not repair. The rear camera started malfunctioning in my eighth year of ownership, and failed approximately one year ago. The cost to replace the camera (only) was $500 prox. + labor. As I have managed to not run over anyone while in reverse or back into any objects thus far, I am in no particular hurry to to do this repair either. Final note: My Genesis replaced my 17 year old Lexus LS400, that I put 150,000+ miles on since purchasing new in 1993. The ONLY failures that my Lexus ever had were burned-out lights (misc.) and a fading electroluminescent speedometer needle. Unbelievable reliability. I mention this only because, from my perspective, while I am mildly disappointed with the aforementioned 2 Genesis problems, they are easy to overlook/accept when I consider my that Genesis cost less than half of what a comparable Lexus LS would have cost at the time.

That I would have done the next day. Love the camera, especially for backing into the garage. I use the right side mirror to line up and then just watch the camera. You could put aluminum siding over the back window, just don't take away my camera.

Bought my 5.0 and put almost 2k miles on it within 3 weeks. Just went in for 30k service (odo reads 29.8k this morning). Here are the issues so far:
- 12V outlets were not working. Previous owner threw a dime into the outlet and blew a fuse. Dealer fix was little under $100.
- Sunroof had issues closing. Dealer applied lubrication, and I haven't had the issue since.
- Front passenger seat creaks over bumps. I had a friend pinpoint exactly where, but both dealer and I had trouble duplicating the issue. It's not important enough to worry over.
- Slight whistling noise from driver's side door. Just noticed it very recently. Comes on at about 50mph. I'll try to clean out the trim, but I can live with it until the next dealer service.

It also needs new rear tires, but that's not a fault with the car. Otherwise, I've been absolutely enjoying it. The tech works without issue. Adaptive cruise gets me through bad traffic. Previous owner updated for Carplay, which has not given me a single issue yet (this is amazing, as my previous '17 Cadillac had a 50% chance of not connecting - using the same cable). There's power to spare, although coming from turbo 4s, it takes a bit of getting used to.

Would I buy one again? Yes. I'm sad it only took three other cars to get to this one.

I own a 2010 3.8 premium that I've had for close to 3 years now and it's time to get another. I've narrowed it down to 5 different cars, all Genesis' of course, I'm hooked. 1 2015 3.8 Htrac with the signature package in my preferred Casablanca white, 2 different 2015 3.8 Htrac with signature/tech package equipped cars in Santiago silver , 1 caspian black 2015 3.8 tech package car in RWD and another similarly equipped in the Parisian grey. All similarly priced and all around 30k miles with the exception of the preferred Casablanca white @ 44k. Thanks for all of the information thus far. I have a few questions and need clarification on the warranty.

1st, I live in southern Indiana and my 2010 3.8 has been a handful in the winter. This has sparked my desire for AWD. Has anyone had any issues with respect to the Htrac system? I haven't seen anything of note while researching, just looking for confirmation.

2nd, the paint. My largest complaint with my 2010 has been the paint quality. My clear coat is peeling from the plastic pieces, ie. Bumpers and bumper inserts. This seems to be particularly bad on the white cars. I've participated in threads on the subject and can atrest that it is NOT due to unsavory washing practices in my experience. How has the paint and clearcoat been holding up on your 2015's?

3rd, HMA extended warranty clarification. I've been getting conflicting information about the availability of the Hyundai extended coverage on a vehicle that's NOT purchased from a Hyundai dealer as CPO. I've been told that if I purchase from a non-Hyundai dealer I can take the VIN to a Hyundai service center and the car might be eligible based on certain factors. Others have said this us untrue. This is coming from 2 separate Hyundai dealers, one says yes the other no. Strange. Only 1 of the vehicles on my list is CPO from a Hyundai dealer, the other 4 are "dealer" certified.

Had it on the present and the last car. When i was working I had a couple of long steep hills to contend with. I sometimes had to zig zag between the other cars sliding around, but I just kept on going. I have no negatives on the system.

I'm in Louisville and bought my 16 HTrac just before winter started. As you know, we didn't have much show to talk about this year, but the car performed great in the little we did get. Personally, I wanted the AWD for the times the roads don't get the attention they require. I entertained and drove a 15 5.0 but it wasn't enough of a draw to drop the AWD.

I haven't done a paint correction to my car yet (it's been winter) but do not see nay glaring issues with the paint or clear coat on mine. I like to keep a swirl free car, and looked forward to getting this one squared away.

I bought mine from a non-Hyundai dealer and could not buy a Hyundai warranty from ANY of the dealers around us. I had an EasyCare warranty on my last car (15 Fusion Titanium) and was satisfied, so I started looking into them for the Genesis. Long story short - bought EasyCare 120k, 7 years (from date of warranty purchase) TotalCare plan from Oxmoor Hyundai. I think it was $2075 before tax. I verified it covers the radar SCC components (which you've read a lot of questions on I'm sure) and gives malfunction coverage on items. (will cover an item that is working incorrectly, even if it hasn't yet failed)
Hope that helps!

Yes, that's actually more then helpful!! Thank you. Separate note, how has your experience with Oxmoor been? One of the cars I was looking at was on their lot. They refused to budge on the car (way overpriced based on my research), which was an AWD base model anyway, no panoramic roof so it wasn't for me. The salesman I worked with was great though and I was thinking of going through him for the extended warranty. I'm dead in the middle of Louisville and Indianapolis and was thinking of going to them for warranty work. There's a Hyundai dealer in my hometown of Columbus, IN and they have been servicing my 2010, but they don't see very many Genesis sedans. While they have been helpful, their lack of experience with the car shows.

I called Skillman Hyundai in Indianapolis and the salesman there told me that they would indeed be able to sell me the HMA extended warranty on a non-CPO car. I'll compare prices on the HMA AND the easycare warranty you mentioned and take the best deal. I'll be heading to Akron, OH to pick up the new car Sunday.

Good, glad to help!
First note - when I called in November, Skillman won't sell you the HMA warranty. You're going to get the paperwork and it's going to be whatever aftermarket warranty they offer and he will tell you it's even better than the Hyundai. I think it's a corporate decision that they can't resell it, not the dealer level.
Find out what Warranty the dealer you're buying from offers - they're more likely to give you a better price after haggling since they're already making money on you.
Oxmoor was a joke when looking at Genesis on their lot. Same thing, overpriced and not aggressive.
They've serviced my wife's Hyundais for 6 years and have done well for the most part. Occasional communication hiccup or dirty hand prints left behind. I haven't had the Genesis there yet so I can't comment on our treatment. It's a pretty dated service facility and I honestly don't expect they'll do anything to go above and beyond for us.

Good to know! I'll stick with my Bob Poynter Hyundai service center or try Skillman then. While my local Bob Poynter guys and gals aren't the MOST knowledgeable on our cars in particular they DO try hard AND treat me really well. Anything they don't know about our cars they have done well at finding out.. .just makes me nervous at times as I feel like their Guinea pig from time to time. Great people though.

As far as the warranty goes, duly noted! I bought an extended "aftermarket" warranty on the 2010 and it has proven to have been worth it. 1st time ever purchasing an extended warranty on a car. Some of the issues I've had have been a hassle to deal with AND cover though. Waiting for them to send out a rep to check things out before a claim is taken care of has been frustrating at times. I was just hoping the process would be more streamlined if I'm able to purchase the HMA warranty. I've heard horror stories about some warranty companies. I'll research what options the Akron dealer has available and go from there. The saleman at Skillman seemed confident he could offer the HMA to me once I purchased the new car....but I'll trust your words. If I've learned anything over the years it's that car salesman don't always know their stuff. I know more about the 2015 and 2016 Genesis' then EVERY SINGLE salesman I've spoken to thus far....and I've talked to a lot of them. I cast a net of about 250 miles and have talked to someone about every single AWD Genesis within that radius!

Thank you for the help!
