If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long term reliability of HTRAC AWD transfer case due to inability to change the transfer case fluid?

Hmm, I have a 2018 G80 sport, I will look it up and see what I can find, thank you tho!
See attached image. The parts advisor can print out this summary for your vehicle. He printed out the below and the 2017 G80 version and I was confused how some items changed from one year to the next.

Oh yeah they changed a lot in one year, especially the 5.0 engine it's basically a different engine if you look up the Wikipedia for the Hyundai Genesis 5.0 and the Genesis 5.0 the Genesis 5.0 got so many updates even a different tune.

I looked it up and my transfer case part number is 47300-4E201, and it says that it's the same one across all G80 after 11/01/2016, it's also the same as the G90, yet not the G70, I guess little brother has a smaller one?

I "changed" the Transfer Case fluid on my Genesis G80 Sport 3.3 HTRAC Dec 7, 2022.. Car had ~57,600 miles on it I used the Ravenol Transfer Fluid DTF-1.

I rolled front end up on car ramps (still shocked that ramps are made out of "plastic"). Ramps were 17 degrees steep. Anything steeper/taller and bumper would have hit ramp before tire moved up ramp. I did not jack up the rear end.
FloTool 11912ABMI RhinoRamps MAX Vehicle Ramp - Pair (16,000lb. GVW Capacity) $71.01USD

This gave me enough room to crawl under car and remove 3 bolts holding bracket to TC and 2 bolts holding bracket to cross frame. Using a 14MM Hex bit I removed the "fill" plug. No fluid leaked out. Using a 20ml syringe and 12" hose I was able to remove about 400ml. At 20ml a suck it took about 20 minutes to get as much fluid out as possible. I had to fiddle with hose in TC to get out as much fluid as possible. Used fluid was dark colored like used motor oil and did not smell burnt. It was fairly thin as expected and no obvious metal shavings/material.

I used the same syringe to pump in about 400ml of new fluid 20ml at a time. I filled until it overflowed out of fill hole. Start to finish it took about 1.0 hours to do the work. A car lift would have made this a 15 minute job. The limited space to work in and crawling in and out from under car was time consuming and tough on my old bones.

I changed the Transfer Case fluid on my Genesis G80 Sport 3.3 HTRAC a 2nd time as part of my 60K mile maintenance this weekend. I was able to remove about 400ml fluid (capacity = 620ml). Used fluid was dark colored like used motor oil and did not smell burnt. It was fairly thin as expected and no obvious metal shavings/material. Fluid "looked" exactly the same as the original fluid I replaced at ~57,600 miles. I was surprised at how dirty the TC fluid was with only about 2,400 miles on it.

After about 100 miles, acceleration feels a little smoother with no feeling of slippage/shudder.

Could you please send me a picture of the fluid you used, I have the same vehicle and I'm planning on doing all the major maintenance items in May, I already bought set of coil packs, trans and diff fluids.

I used a 20ml syringe to drain and fill the TC fluid. This took about 25 fill/emptying of the syringe to drain ~400ml. A total of ~50 times (2 x 25) for both drain and fill.

A larger capacity syringe would have made this job easier. Amazon has 300/500ML syringes for $9/$15USD

That's a damn good workout, I have a 500ml syringe and I will be doing all maintenance in the summer it's cold here in RI.

Hi guys, which trans pan is the one for the G80 sport, because these two are different one has one pickup line going out of the filter and the other got two.

I took my 2015 5.0L V8 to a transmission shop thinking that the slipping/shuddering is due to errors with that system, but they explained that the the Transmission/Engine is fine, and that the issue lies elsewhere.

They said that the Transfer Case could be part of the error, but advised that the first thing I do is get all new tires. (We currently have mis-matched set, front brand different from back but the treds are comparable/compatible and the tire dimensions are in line with vehicle specs)

Could tires really be the issue here? Because the more I read on this thread, the more the symptoms of what's happening with the drivability of the car is what you have all described, and I'm starting to think I just need a TC flush and fresh fluid. This shop doesn't sell or install tires, so not a cash-grab situation, but it just seems weird to me?

I am a firm believer in the transfer case fluid exchange, read my post #131. It's almost 1 year since the fluid exchange and my car runs great. Check out Acpantera post 80 & 81, this is what I showed to the transmission shop and they agreed to change my TC fluid.

Update: We have swapped out all 4 tires and it seems to be a smoother/happier car since then. I'm still going to investigate the transfer case and differential fluids as my car is a 2015 and these are likely nearing their end-of-life anyway. However, the slipping/shuddering in lower gears while accelerating/decelerating has ceased for the most part. Funny enough, a colleague with a BMW was also experiencing the symptoms of faulty AWD/Drive Train and his was also remedied by new/better tires. Neither of us had severely worn/terrible tires, but they were obviously just worn enough to throw off the calculations of that system.

Today alignment/suspension is getting assessed and rear brakes that are are needing to be redone (and are likely contributing to some of the roughness when slowing) are getting serviced. Having trouble finding a place that will do the transfer-case fluid swap following along the process and photos provided earlier in the thread by other users, saying its a lifetime part on the car and fluid is unavailable from their suppliers. Though I did find one shop that would do it if I sourced the fluid... so we'll see how that goes and can post a final update once completed.

Now to find the necessary fluids online... what site do you use to order products/supplies from? I'm new to self-sourcing items in the car world so am unsure where to look for reputable dealers/suppliers.

I just did the front and rear differentials, transfer case, and transmission fluids on my 2018 Genesis G80 sport AWD.
I uploaded pictures of all the fluids that I used, but if you want an even more luxuries ride use amsoil 75w-110 diff fluid.

I used the OEM Genesis transfer case fluid; see attached image.
Looks expensive lol. But it's the same stuff that I used. TF-0870. I used to have a slight Whining noise when going full throttle, and after the fluid change it's gone.

Nothing is showing.
Oh! Thank you for catching that. I meant to type that for my 2016 Genesis (2018 G80 Sport may be different) I used the OEM Genesis transfer case fluid; photo attached. I change it every 30,000 miles since purchasing new, far above and beyond the owner manual.

Here's how mine looks, if you have the 3.8 engine than yes they are different.

This is my first time posting, but I figured I’d give some credit where it’s due to @Acpantera for kickstarting this whole thing! Kudos, good sir!

Just did the TC fluid swap on my 2018 G80 Sport. Was experiencing the dreaded shudder and I could tell the power just wasn’t getting to the wheels, and it was hugely noticeable in stop/go traffic.

Took me 45 minutes, exactly as laid out in post 81. Extracted 450ml of old fluid, put back 450ml before it started to dribble from the fill hole.

IMMEDIATE results in any driving mode. The power is there, no slips, super smooth and even the slight vibration I had over 110kph is gone. If you’re on the fence, but you have this shuddering and power delivery issue, do this.

Below is the ooze I pulled out, and the sweet honey I put back in.
