So, don't any one tell ya that the transfer case oil can't be changed in a G80 sport with HTRAC.
19,500 milesHow many miles on that fluid?
Told the wife that one of the kids must have taken that crappy cup when they moved out.On a tangent, please note that's the newer, crappy Pyrex. Not that you were planning to find out, but it's not heat-resistant like the old stuff.
One hyundai Technician just sent to me some pictures of the 2015 G80 workshop manual, and they explain how to change the oil (they even give the reference of the Oil type : Shell TF0870, same TF found in the BMW and Porsche Transfer case) so yes it is possible to change the Transfer case oil.
They recommend to take the case off the vehicle to proceed to the oil change, but maybe it is doable while the case attached to the kinematic chain.
Thanks, looks easy to drain from your pics. But, for refilling, where is the fill port??View attachment 32527remove the triangular bracket, 17mm socket for the three, 14mm socket for the two lower.View attachment 32528once thats off, remove the plug with a 14mm allen.View attachment 32529fish the tube in as deep as possible, I got out just shy of 450ml.View attachment 32530Very EZ job, test drove and was extremely happy that my jerky acceleration disappeared. The manual says it takes 670ml and i replaced less than 500ml. Im going to be changing the engine oil in about 500 miles, so i think im going to repeat the process just for the halibut.

There is no drain, I used a syringe and a foot long tube to suction out as much fluid possible from the fill port. I also used the syringe to replenish the fluid.Thanks, looks easy to drain from your pics. But, for refilling, where is the fill port??
Hello M_T_W, quick question, seems like you described an issue i am experiencing right now with my 15 Genesis AWD. While turning the wheel all the way to the left or right and starting driving on the low speed ahead or even worse backwards, it feels like the car stutters. Like wheels getting blocked from going freely. When the wheel is straight it drives absolutely fine. However i have no codes on the dash, but do have this issue. Were you able to figure out was was the issue? Transfer case? Please adviseJust recently purchased a new 2020 g70 sport with 40 miles.. currently sitting at 1,300 miles. From day one there was that clunky 4wd feel when turning at low speeds.. (originally took car in for the dark chrome issue referenced in other threads..) mentioned to dealership who assumed it was a pressure sensor. Well just got the call that they think the transfer case is bad, and they are ordering a new one.

Please adviseso update on my car... original dealer did nothing for me, so I scheduled an appointment at a local dealer which the soonest date which was weeks out. So dropped the car off on 10/8 with the same issue of low speed knocking, dark chrome fading and most importantly the AWD dash light... they still have my car 2 weeks later, but they did order the transfer case assembly and will replace it. So it's taken since July 3rd to get SOMEWHERE with Genesis and I'm not happy the service takes so long to schedule and then so long to work with getting the problem fixed once it's been identified. But at least it seems it'll FINALLY now be fixed, but still without my car.
Hey Bubba, I had a 2018 G80 sport, and after alot of research I found that the transfer case in the Genny was the same unit as the one most commonly used in BMW cars. I could not find the shell product that was listed in the owners manual so that took me to the Ravenol that I got on Amazon(the label said approved for Genesis/Hyundai cases).Thanks all for the information. I am considering doing a transfer case fluid replacement on my 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T AWD.
At 40K miles (now at 48K) I started getting a shudder/slip under moderate acceleration from 20 -> 50mph. It only occurs after car is at operating temperature and most common on hot days (~90F). I took to dealer and rode with tech. They said it is was normal, unique to the Gennys tranny. I rolled my eyes and said B.S. in my head.
@Acpantera
Q1) What year is your G80 Sport AWD?
Q2) What was the viscosity of the DTF fluid you used?
I want to ensure I get the correct fluid. Owners manual says classification SHELL TF0870 B with volume/capacity of 0.65 US qt.
Q3) How many under-side body panels did you have to remove to get to the transfer case drain/fill plug?
I see the Ravenol DTF fluid you used is TF-0870. Their website says "Genesis (USA) G90 3.3 T-GDI and 5.0 GDI AWD (from year 2016);". The G90 3.3T engine is same as the 2018 G80 2018 3.3T engine. I am ASSUMING the transfer case fluid is the same.
Thanks. A quick search for "SHELL TF0870" did return a non Ravenol fluid indicating it was for "Beemer" transfer cases.Hey Bubba, I had a 2018 G80 sport, and after alot of research I found that the transfer case in the Genny was the same unit as the one most commonly used in BMW cars. I don't remember taking any underbody panels off, all I took off was the rear tranny mount, that's the black triangular metal piece that bolts to the transfer case with 3 bolts and 2 bolts that secure that piece to the cross member.....nothing moved. I had the car on ramps so that the fluid stayed to the back of the unit. I managed to get nearly a 1/2 liter out and back in, the car was instantly perfectly smooth again. I drove the car for about a week and repeated the process for the heck of it just to get the fluid as clean as possible. Well worth the effort imo.
