  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am about ready to purchase a 2010 Genesis and I took a long test drive tonight. I am 6'7" and felt like the leg room was an inch or two short. I just barely made the head room but I am concerned about the leg room on long trips. I am impressed by the back seat room behind me with the seat all the way back. I can fit a large car seat and my three year old back there safely which is tough to find. I am looking for some feedback from other tall drivers on how they feel about the leg room in the Genesis and if you feel cramped. I am going to look at a used BMW 750 and a Lexus LS460 this weekend before I make my final decision. I prefer to buy a new Genesis but I have to be comfortable.

The Lexus and the Genesis are almost identical in their interior and exterior sizes. They even share the same tire and rim size. The seats in the LS move in more ways than on the Genesis, but the comfort is about the same. The seats in the Genesis are great, but they are a little short on the bottom. I'm not giant at 6'1, but on long trips it does make a difference. The 750i, if it's got the sport package seats, has the feature of being able to extend the seat bottom toward the knees. This is huge for tall dudes like yourself. Also the 750i depending on which year, is a tank. i'm not too much of a fan of the older models but starting about 06/07 they started to look a little better. There's a long wheelbase version which is even more of a tank. Of course the Bimmer and the Lexus are considerably more expensive. You could probably get a new V8 Genesis for a 3 year old Lexus.

I'm 6'5" and I've just barely got enough headroom. The 3.8L has about 2 more inches of headroom due to the lack of sunroof. If you went with that, then you'd be fine. If you were looking at the 4.6, then you definitely are going to want to test drive it over some bumps first. I also looked at a used 750, but found that it had less room in the front than the 550 I also looked at. This may differ by model year though.

I, too, am 6'7" (260 lbs) and just signed on to my second Genesis. First was a 3.8 Tech and the latest a 4.6 with Tech. Found the seat adjustments to be adequate for my size although a "10 way" seat would be an added bonus. Head room has never been a problem, since the seat does have up/down adjustments. This past Memorial Day weekend we drove from RI to PA and did not undergo and particular discomfort (with occasional rest stops). I noticed that my new car seems to allow the driver's seat a couple of more inches of travel although that was never an issue with the previous model. Being large has always been a problem and I find that I cannot fit in a Mustang, Corvette, or any number of cars. However, the Genesis is about as good as it gets for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the headroom is okay even with the sunroof. I am going to look at a 2006-07 750 or LS460 which should be about the same price. I really do not want to buy the Lexus or BMW due to the maintenance costs, long term reliability and the perception some people have who drive luxury cars. I do consulting work and it does not give the best impression when you show up in a really expensive car even if it is really the same price as the Genesis. Unfortunately, I may have no choice if the leg room is significantly better than the Genesis.

Now, on the other hand, being 5'7", I found the seat height too low - even with the seat at the highest position, so I put the drivers seat on 1 1/2" steel blocks and the view is much better. I may go another 1" higher, which will leave about 3" head room.

I'm 6'6" and mostly legs. The room is fine for that and I have the V6. The head room is more then ample and the prior comment about the seat adjustments is dead on... there will be a perfect adjustment for you.
